No, and the main reason is I don't like the fact that this bailout plan is giving Paulson sweeping powers that cannot be challenged by any other branch of government, most notably the courts.

But, according to the draft, “decisions by the Secretary pursuant to the authority of this Act are non-reviewable and committed to agency discretion, and may not be reviewed by any court of law or any administrative agency.”

[snip]

Until that bullshit is gone, no way can I support it.

Yeah, it sounds almost like they're creating a fourth branch of government...wait, that's fifth, I forgot about Cheney.

I'm beginning to see the difference between socialism and fascism starting to dissolve. People have argued that what the bail out will actually accomplish is making this government lean towards socialism. However, we know that the everyday people, whom we would think would benefit from a more socialist society (education, health care, for instance) won't benefit from this at all. On the contrary. The only beneficiaries are going to be the fat fascist cats getting fatter and fatter. And, with that provision that “decisions by the Secretary pursuant to the authority of this Act are non-reviewable and committed to agency discretion, and may not be reviewed by any court of law or any administrative agency.” it sure will be a done deal.

Fascism, here we come.

No. I dont agree with it. It too broad and it only favors the CEOs and puts this country in a deeper poo than it already is.

No. Democrats should not let Paulson go along his merry way!!! Democrats have a lot of negotiating to do. A lot.

Oversight!!! D'uh.

Don't want to hear "we have to hurry" from Paulson again. This is fear-mongering. Playing and finessing while everyone appears in shock. I'm not in shock. We have to make sure our Dem. leaders remain clear-eyed about this.

What is happening is not socialism. There are two warring factions in this country. One we can call "Wall Street". That means the investor class, ownership of corporations, people who don't produce much of anything useful but are in the "business" of accumulating money to themselves. Call the other "Main Street". That means families who don't necessarily have anything to invest, and who are more worried about survival of themselves and their children than in maximizing their wealth. The two stakeholders have very different goals. Foremost goal of the former is to take money from everyone else and gather it to themselves. Money is mostly a zero-sum game, after all. Main goal of the latter is to apply that money to social well-being: clean air, food, water; adequate shelter; healthcare; education. It's obvious the two goals conflict.

As long as policy is tuned to Wall Street, the majority of taxpayers get screwed. That is the case now, and nothing, short of maybe an Obama Presidency (and more) will change that. So don't believe the liars who say this is a first step to socialism (for the greater good of the people). This is the N-th step towards fascism, feudalism, plutarchy, no different than what led to the Iraq War, but 20 times bigger.

This is not socialism.

Here's why these stupid polls can not be trusted.

Exactly.

It's just another excuse at creating another "perfect storm" for the Republicans so they steal more money from the US treasury. At this stage, I feel as though the whole damn thing needs to melt-down so we can start all over. This is a quick fix, typical Republican solution to throw money at the problem to save the oligarchy. Nothing will change and it will simply happen again in another so-called market scheme.
