Detroit has a long history being wrong when it comes to what Americans want and will buy. Toyota and Honda and Mazda, Volvo, BMW, and Mercedes and the others have all succeeded here by giving American consumers something that Detroit chose not to make because they "knew" we wouldn't like it.

I just got done looking at that article myself... Isn't it an issue about emissions though. What Ford needs to do is come out with a hybrid version of my Focus... That would be great!

It's diesel and they don't think we'd buy a diesel, so they left it Europe. Shitheads.

I'm driving an old diesel Land Cruiser right now.

The diesel Smart Car was a hit in Canada.

A couple of years ago I sold my diesel dually, it had 150,000 miles on it and was just getting broken in. Diesel engines last forever if you change the oil basic maintenance, etc. They are screwing us again, but that's ok, Ford is hurting big time, maybe they'll learn someday.

According to the article:

"Diesel vehicles now hitting the market with pollution-fighting technology are as clean or cleaner than gasoline and at least 30% more fuel-efficient."

Interesting - way back in the day - during the gas crisis in the '70s - auto manufacturers (mostly European) started flooding the market with diesel cars - since diesel fuel was significantly cheaper back then. Those cars were stinky and noisy - even the real expensive ones like Mercedes. My brother-in-law has a turbo diesel truck - it's also stinky and noisy and he now doesn't drive it because it's too expensive.

I'm glad I didn't fall for it back then and I don't think I'd fall for it now. I'll wait for an effecient electric and/or fuel cell car before I buy into any new technology - too many have come and gone.

I guess a non-stinky non-noisy 65mpg diesel car might be attractive - allthough it doesn't do much for energy independence, does it?
