Just sent an email to both of my Senators in D.C. telling them to not bail out the CEOs and to basically send them directly to jail for their swindling of our economy.
L-Rey-LA
Same here! This is bullshit!
theaterjunkie503
Also called mine this morning, though Oregon's Gordon Smith is an open question (depends on how much he feels like "pandering to progressives").

Randi commented earlier that this bailout was screwing us, while at the same time sticking us with the bill. Quite right.

Like Sarah Palin, they want to charge us for the rape kit after screwing us for 25 years!!! angry.gif tirade.gif

Thank you!

I'll send something, but these are the same people who helped it happen. Although ours is Debbie Wasserman Shultz, maybe she'll care.

The following is from Welcome to the Final Stages of the Coup by Larisa Alexandrovna

QUOTE
As I see it now, we have but two options and I have long alluded to hoping against hope that one of these options would not be the only one left to a peaceful people. The first and frankly most preferable option is for Congress to immediately begin impeachment proceedings against the members of this latest Business Plot.

No time needs to be wasted on hearings as we already now have in writing, formally as presented to Congress, the intentions of this administration to nullify Congressional powers permanently, to alter Judicial powers permanently, and to openly steal public funds using as blackmail the total collapse of the US economy if these powers are not handed over. You do see how this is blackmail, do you not? You do see how this is a manufactured crisis precisely designed to be used as blackmail, do you not?

The other option, the one I have long prayed we would never need to even consider, is a total revolution. But, If Congress won't act in its own self-defense, in the defense of democracy, in defense of us - the people who have elected them to protect us from this very danger - then what is left for us to do? I don't want to see it come down to this, but I fear that it will. Put your party politics aside right now. We are in a crisis so dangerous that should these people succeed in their coup, your party affiliation will no longer matter, your American flag will be a nice collectible item of something that once was, and your version of God will be worshiped in secrecy because your freedoms will be owned by the few.

You are no longer Republicans, Democrats, or any shade of voter. You do not live in a swing state or a solid colored state. You are simply this: an American. That is the only side that matters. So call your members of Congress and demand, no, declare that unless they do their duty to the Constitution and to us, we will move to the streets - not because we want to, but because our founding fathers demanded this duty of each and every citizen in the face of such a domestic enemy. Demand - as is your right - that this bill be voted against and demand - as is your right - that the people plotting this treachery be held to account. We are either a nation of laws or we are no longer a democracy. Pick a side, because there won't be another time, another moment, another chance to be a patriot.
Gwynogsrabbit
Oh HONESTLY!!! Why when we mention revolution the RW's minds always go right to guns? Did you see the updates for that article, where Confederate Yankee rolleyes.gif and this dingbat think she is calling for a bloody, armed revolution? I think she made it quite clear, as we did on here - the point is to force the Congress to take action. The most that was even mentioned on this board was pitchforks!

Great news!! Both my senators phone #s in DC are ringing off the hook!!!

I contacted the local offices and they said they are sending off updates of comments from callers directly to the senators in DC to let them know how the taxpayers feel on this bailout because they know the lines to DC are jammed.

Even though they asked, I almost didn't have to tell them my concern, they said the calls have been coming in steadily on this issue!! laugh.gif tongue.gif

DONE!
Also my message to Barack Obama in Washington, where I actually spoke to someone-
You have my vote today.
But if you vote yes to this ruse, this bailout, you're not as smart as I thought you were.
Will I still give to you my vote? I can't be certain I will vote. I will have lost all faith in this united states and will be looking to leave. I have free will ya know.
You can not vote for this Barack, see through it.

We all must DEMAND that the Checks & Balances which ONCE protected this people from cronyism and Greed before the Reagan years...Be PUT back in PLAY!

This nation is standing "butt naked" before the world with this "false patriotism" as a cloak for deceit and greed. The Chickens are coming home to roost...chicken Hawks that is!

A Note from Naomi

QUOTE
I wrote The Shock Doctrine in the hopes that it would make us all better prepared for the next big shock. Well, that shock has certainly arrived, along with gloves-off attempts to use it to push through radical pro-corporate policies (which of course will further enrich the very players who created the market crisis in the first place…). But here’s the thing: these tactics can only work if we let them. They work when we give in to our fear and our desire for “strong leaders” – even if they are the same strong leaders who used the September 11 attacks to launch the Disaster Capitalism Complex. Sadly, there are no saviors in this crisis, and the only hope of preventing another dose of shock politics is loud, organized grassroots pressure on all political parties.

In this newsletter, Debra Levy, who runs www.shockdoctrine.org and was my closest colleague in researching The Shock Doctrine, has compiled my recent writing and interviews on the crisis, as well as information about an upcoming protest in New York. We also have the gory details of how the right wing think tanks are already using the market shock to push for some old fashioned economic shock therapy.

We send this with an urgent request: please, don’t be silent. If you have read the book, you know that this is precisely the kind of moment in which we stand to lose (or gain) it all. If we are slow, the radical changes will be locked in; if the Bush Administration gets its way, the actions taken this week will not be subject to repeal or to any legal challenge. So write letters to the editor, call your elected representatives, contact the Obama campaign, and let them know: the way to solve a crisis born of deregulated capitalism is not with more gifts and giveaways for Wall Street!

I've been signing every petition about this that comes my way, along with sending emails to my state reps and senators. Including a few angery phone calls. I'm sure I am not the only one. Problem is, as far as I can tell not one of us taxpayers wants this bail out and giving Bush and his cronies a blank check and they not admitting a single wrong doing or failure. And not surprisingly our politicians are going ahead regardless of what us taxpayers want. Sure they squabbling over transparency and some kind of aid for those who took out mortgages they could not afford to begin with. All in giving the appearance of doing right by the American people because this is an election year and they want to keep their jobs while the rest of us are struggling day to day. Bush and his administration bare the bront of the blame but some Democrats do share in it as well.

Don't worry, Matrix, probably most people aren't saying that they did it! I went to both petitions, and sent the Bernie Sanders one to everyone on my Facebook list (who's in the states). Also sent it to my husband, who then signed it. But then I didn't come back to say so! laugh.gif So people are doing it

ALSOWE - hammer Chris Dodd (Majority) and Richard Shelby (Minority) of Senate Banking, and the House, too - and whack the individual Banking members with emails!

I was snippy with Shelby - asked him is he was going to go down as a sell-out. Can't support the troops by selling out the taxpayers!

Get blunt with the Reeepubs - especially the ones running for re-election. Don't matter if you don't live there - Shelby's from Alabama, and for all he knows, 40,000 of my next-of-kin are voters there!

I emailed my senators asking "if the Bush admin was wrong on Iraq, wrong on Katrina, wrong on deregulation, and wrong on loose nukes, why should we think it is right on the bailout?"
Perhaps someone could help me make a complete list for my congressman too.
