Lyrics:
Allspirit Lyrics
Peace Train
by Cat Stevens

Now I've been happy lately,
thinking about the good things to come
And I believe it could be,
something good has begun

Oh I've been smiling lately,
dreaming about the world as one
And I believe it could be,
some day it's going to come

Cause out on the edge of darkness,
there rides a peace train
Oh peace train take this country,
come take me home again

Now I've been smiling lately,
thinking about the good things to come
And I believe it could be,
something good has begun

Oh peace train sounding louder
Glide on the peace train
Come on now peace train
Yes, peace train holy roller

Everyone jump upon the peace train
Come on now peace train

Get your bags together,
go bring your good friends too
Cause it's getting nearer,
it soon will be with you

Now come and join the living,
it's not so far from you
And it's getting nearer,
soon it will all be true

Now I've been crying lately,
thinking about the world as it is
Why must we go on hating,
why can't we live in bliss

Cause out on the edge of darkness,
there rides a peace train
Oh peace train take this country,
come take me home again

Lyrics to song:
http://www.lyricsondemand.com/onehitwonder...ofuslyrics.html

If God had a name, what would it be
And would you call it to his face
If you were faced with him in all his glory
What would you ask if you had just one question

And yeah yeah God is great yeah yeah God is good
yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah

What if God was one of us
Just a slob like one of us
Just a stranger on the bus
Trying to make his way home

If God had a face what would it look like
And would you want to see
If seeing meant that you would have to believe
In things like heaven and in jesus and the saints and all the prophets

And yeah yeah god is great yeah yeah god is good
yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah

What if God was one of us
Just a slob like one of us
Just a stranger on the bus
Trying to make his way home
He's trying to make his way home
Back up to heaven all alone
Nobody calling on the phone
Except for the pope maybe in rome

And yeah yeah God is great yeah yeah God is good
yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah

What if god was one of us
Just a slob like one of us
Just a stranger on the bus
Trying to make his way home
Just trying to make his way home
Like a holy rolling stone
Back up to heaven all alone
Just trying to make his way home
Nobody calling on the phone

Last-Minute Message for a Time Capsule

"I have to tell you this, whoever you are:
that on one summer morning here, the ocean
pounded in on tumbledown breakers,
a south wind, bustling along the shore,
whipped the froth into little rainbows,
and a reckless gull swept down the beach
as if to fly were everything it needed.
I thought of your hovering saucers,
looking for clues, and I wanted to write this down,
so it wouldn't be lost forever --
that once upon a time we had
meadows here, and astonishing things,
swans and frogs and luna moths
and blue skies that could stagger your heart.
We could have had them still,
and welcomed you to earth, but
we also had the righteous ones
who worshipped the True Faith, and Holy War.
When you go home to your shining galaxy,
say that what you learned
from this dead and barren place is
to beware the righteous ones."

Always wondered what this song meant to people. Some random pearls of wisdom are listed below in "comments section".

I think it's about the futility of dealing with an upside-down world. Kind of depressing, but true. Is it better to be accomodating or threatening.

QUOTE
Rape Me, by Kurt Colbain

Rape me.
Rape me, my friend.
Rape me.
Rape me, again.

I'm not the only one.

Hate me.
Do it do it again.

Waste me.
Taste me, my friend.

My favorite inside source.
I'll kiss your open sores.
I appreciate your concern.
You'll always stink and burn.

kinda wierd song

by Rob_98443 on 02-09-2002 @ 12:22:47 AM
The way I see it..
A Idea about someone who realized a freind is Using them, but figuring out they like being used, so he says do it some more, We all use people, and we are all being used.

by FROST17 on 02-09-2002 @ 07:08:20 AM
the song is saying rape me because you are going to anyways and you will get what you deserve for it in the end.

by higginite22 on 02-15-2002 @ 10:25:43 AM
This song is actually about how the press wont leave Kurt alone and he feels like his privacy has been raped

by Phenobarbiedoll on 02-18-2002 @ 05:31:09 PM
To me he's daring someone to hurt him again, maybe he likes it.

by of_solitude on 02-20-2002 @ 12:44:27 PM
it's about being depressed and how sometimes when people are depressed they don't care what people do to them, or how they feel like they're being used when they're depressed

by orange_crush on 02-22-2002 @ 02:46:23 AM
whenever i listen to this song i think of someone who is sick of saying no and...and is just saying go on do it again i don't care...

by darren_kif on 02-26-2002 @ 03:22:53 PM
Well, I dunno, this is just what I thought, but it's just that the strumming pattern of the central riff is basically Smells Like Teen Spirit. Since Kurt seemed to dislike the fact that that song was so popular and no one listened to a lot of their better stuff, I wonder if he's saying something about being artistically 'raped' by listeners demanding the next 'teen spirit'.

Just a thought.

Darren...

by SongMeanings on 03-13-2002 @ 03:34:01 PM
I think this is about a friend who screwed Kurt Cobain over constantly. Like alot of friends I used to do.

by nin028 on 04-03-2002 @ 08:18:14 PM
I think "darren kif" is totally correct...I wasn't too sure what this was about until i read "darren kif's" response to this and now i totally would have to agree with him...keep it up darren

by Kdog30001 on 04-17-2002 @ 10:46:44 PM
i agree with ukie

by therymz on 04-25-2002 @ 05:22:44 PM
Im not sure but I THINK I read somewhere that this song is about a rapist in jail. And he is very remorseful about what he did. And as he gets raped in jail he thinks of it as repentence.

by alexbravo on 04-25-2002 @ 05:28:43 PM
Wow, you people are all clueless. Kurt wrote this song after the mainstream press started calling him a "lyrical genius". He actually believed them. He tought if he pushed the boundaries by writing about a woman who was telling people to rape her, that he'd be seen as even more of a genius. Of course, we all have figured out by now that Kurt wasn't too bright, his lyrics were really crappy, and that Red Ryder was doing Nirvana before Nirvana was born! Read up, sheep. Open your mind before you buy into this crap!

by scandor on 05-06-2002 @ 02:18:09 AM
I think its a song about a friend that has emotionally "raped" him. "My favorite inside source. I'll kiss your open sores. Appreciate your concern. You'll always stink and burn." I think what Kurt is saying there is I would bend over backwards for you, but you wouldn't or won't do the same for me. Oh and alexbravo needs to be violated with a hot screwdriver. Cobain is a lyrical genius, most of his songs he is speaking about a specific thing, but he never really says what the song is about. He is speaking metaphorically .

You're a Mean One, Mr. Gingrich

With Apologies to Dr. Seuss

You're a mean one, Mr. Gingrich .
You really are a heel.
You're as cuddly as a cactus,
You're as charming as an eel.
Mr. Gingrich .

You're a bad banana
With a greasy black peel.

You're a monster, Mr. Gingrich .
Your heart's an empty hole.
Your brain is full of spiders,
You've got garlic in your soul.
Mr. Gingrich .

I wouldn't touch you, with a
thirty-nine-and-a-half foot pole.

You're a vile one, Mr. Gingrich .
You have termites in your smile.
You have all the tender sweetness
Of a seasick crocodile.
Mr. Gingrich .

Given the choice between the two of you
I'd take the seasick crockodile.

You're a foul one, Mr. Gingrich .
You're a nasty, wasty skunk.
Your heart is full of unwashed socks
Your soul is full of gunk.
Mr. Gingrich .

The three words that best describe you,
are, and I quote: "Stink. Stank. Stunk."

You're a rotter, Mr. Gingrich .
You're the king of sinful sots.
Your heart's a dead tomato splot
With moldy purple spots,
Mr. Gingrich .

Your soul is an apalling dump heap overflowing
with the most disgraceful assortment of deplorable
rubbish imaginable,
Mangled up in tangled up knots.

You nauseate me, Mr. Gingrich .
With a nauseaus super-naus.
You're a crooked jerky jockey
And you drive a crooked horse.
Mr. Gingrich .

You're a three decker saurkraut and toadstool
sandwich
With arsenic sauce.

Ha!! I can sing this one by heart.

If I Only Had a Heart
When a man's an empty kettle he should be on his mettle,
And yet I'm torn apart.
Just because I'm presumin' that I could be kind-a-human,
If I only had heart.
I'd be tender - I'd be gentle and awful sentimental
Regarding Love and Art.
I'd be friends with the sparrows ...
and the boys who shoots the arrows
If I only had a heart.
Picture me - a balcony. Above a voice sings low.
Wherefore art thou, Romeo? I hear a beat....
How sweet.
Just to register emotion, jealousy - devotion,
And really feel the part.
I could stay young and chipper
and I'd lock it with a zipper,
If I only had a heart.

Madonna never really liked being branded as the Material Girl. I did not know that. Anyway, this "cereal" song is sung to the tune of Material Girl. HA!! biggrin.gif

Was a time when I did not eat cereal oh no
(background singer monsters--- Oh No! )
I had never tasted it
Had never tried it sooo
Then one day my Dad said have some cereal with me

Cereal tastes really good and it's healthfull you'll see

I said I'll taste it, I'll give it a whirl
And now I am a cereal girl
I said I'll taste it, I'll give it a whirl
And now I am a cereal girl

First I tried cold cereal
with milk and it was hip
( So Hip! )
Then I tried hot cereal
and that was such a trip
Then I tried some cereal with fruit
Healthfully sweet
(Healthfully Sweet! )
Now for breakfast cereal's my favorite thing to eat

I'm glad I said I'll taste it, I'll give a whirl
'Cause now I am a cereal girl
I'm glad I said I'll taste it, I'll give a whirl
'Cause now I am a cereal girl

The Moody Blues:
I Know You're Out There Somewhere

I know you’re out there somewhere
Somewhere, somewhere
I know I’ll find you somehow
Somehow, somehow
And somehow I’ll return again to you

The mist is lifting slowly
I can see the way ahead
And I’ve left behind the empty streets
That once inspired my life
And the strength of the emotion
Is like thunder in the air
’cos the promise that we made each other
Haunts me to the end

I know you’re out there somewhere
Somewhere, somewhere
I know you’re out there somewhere
Somewhere you can hear my voice
I know I’ll find you somehow
Somehow, somehow
I know I’ll find you somehow
And somehow I’ll return again to you

The secret of your beauty
And the mystery of your soul
I’ve been searching for in everyone I meet
And the times I’ve been mistaken
It’s impossible to say
And the grass is growing
Underneath our feet

I know you’re out there somewhere
Somewhere, somewhere
I know you’re out there somewhere
Somewhere you can hear my voice
I know I’ll find you somehow
Somehow, somehow
I know I’ll find you somehow
And somehow I’ll return again to you

From the words that I remember
From my childhood still are true
That there’s none so blind
As those who will not see
And to those who lack the courage
And say it’s dangerous to try
Well they just don’t know
That love eternal will not be denied

I know you’re out there somewhere
Somewhere, somewhere
I know you’re out there somewhere
Somewhere you can hear my voice
I know I’ll find you somehow
Somehow, somehow
I know I’ll find you somehow
And somehow I’ll return again to you

Yes I know it’s going to happen
I can feel you getting near
And soon we’ll be returning
To the fountain of our youth
And if you wake up wondering
In the darkness I’ll be there
My arms will close around you
And protect you with the truth

I know you’re out there somewhere
Somewhere, somewhere
I know you’re out there somewhere
Somewhere you can hear my voice
I know I’ll find you somehow
Somehow, somehow
I know I’ll find you somehow
And somehow I’ll return again to you

And there is always this one:
You Can Never Go Home

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFhxxGphPUI

"You Can Never Go Home"

I don't know what I'm searching for
I never have opened the door,
Tomorrow might find me at last,
Turning my back on the past,
But, time will tell, of stars that fell,
A million years ago.
Memories can never take you back, home, sweet home.
You can never go home anymore.

All my life I never really knew me till today,
Now I know why, I'm just another step along the way,

I lie awake for hours, I'm just waiting for the sun.
When the journey we are making has begun,
Don't deny the feeling that is stealing through your heart,
Every happy ending needs to have a start.

All my life I never really knew me till today,
Now I know why, I'm just another step along the way,

Weep no more for treasures you've been searching for in vain.
'Cos the truth is gently falling with the rain,
High above the forest lie the pastures of the sun,
Where the two that learned the secret are now one.

I don't know what I'm searching for
I never have opened the door,
Tomorrow might find me at last,
Turning my back on the past,
But, time will tell, of stars that fell,
A million years ago.
Memories can never take you back, home, sweet home.
You can never go home anymore.

The Moody Blues:
I Know You're Out There Somewhere

I know you’re out there somewhere
Somewhere, somewhere
I know I’ll find you somehow
Somehow, somehow
And somehow I’ll return again to you

The mist is lifting slowly
I can see the way ahead
And I’ve left behind the empty streets
That once inspired my life
And the strength of the emotion
Is like thunder in the air
’cos the promise that we made each other
Haunts me to the end

I know you’re out there somewhere
Somewhere, somewhere
I know you’re out there somewhere
Somewhere you can hear my voice
I know I’ll find you somehow
Somehow, somehow
I know I’ll find you somehow
And somehow I’ll return again to you

The secret of your beauty
And the mystery of your soul
I’ve been searching for in everyone I meet
And the times I’ve been mistaken
It’s impossible to say
And the grass is growing
Underneath our feet

I know you’re out there somewhere
Somewhere, somewhere
I know you’re out there somewhere
Somewhere you can hear my voice
I know I’ll find you somehow
Somehow, somehow
I know I’ll find you somehow
And somehow I’ll return again to you

From the words that I remember
From my childhood still are true
That there’s none so blind
As those who will not see
And to those who lack the courage
And say it’s dangerous to try
Well they just don’t know
That love eternal will not be denied

I know you’re out there somewhere
Somewhere, somewhere
I know you’re out there somewhere
Somewhere you can hear my voice
I know I’ll find you somehow
Somehow, somehow
I know I’ll find you somehow
And somehow I’ll return again to you

Yes I know it’s going to happen
I can feel you getting near
And soon we’ll be returning
To the fountain of our youth
And if you wake up wondering
In the darkness I’ll be there
My arms will close around you
And protect you with the truth

I know you’re out there somewhere
Somewhere, somewhere
I know you’re out there somewhere
Somewhere you can hear my voice
I know I’ll find you somehow
Somehow, somehow
I know I’ll find you somehow
And somehow I’ll return again to you

Welcome to the working week

Elvis Costello

Now that your picture's in the paper being rhythmically admired
and you can have anyone that you have ever desired,
all you gotta tell me now is why, why, why, why.

Welcome to the workin' week.
Oh I know it don't thrill you, I hope it don't kill you.
Welcome to the workin' week.
You gotta do it till you're through it so you better get to it.

All of your family had to kill to survive,
and they're still waitin' for their big day to arrive.
But if they knew how I felt they'd bury me alive.

Welcome to the workin' week.
Oh I know it don't thrill you, I hope it don't kill you.
Welcome to the workin' week.
You gotta do it till you're through it so you better get to it.

I hear you sayin', "Hey, the city's alright,
when you only read about it in books.
Spend all your money gettin' so convinced
that you never even bother to look.
Sometimes I wonder if we're livin' in the same land,
Why d'you wanna be my friend when I feel like a juggler
running out of hands?

Welcome to the workin' week, oh, welcome to the working week.

I will fight no more FOREVER. - Chief Joseph

In the treaty councils the commissioners have claimed that our country had been sold to the Government. Suppose a white man should come to me and say, 'Joseph, I like your horses, and I want to buy them.' I say to him, 'No, my horses suit me, I will not sell them.' Then he goes to my neighbor, and says to him: 'Joseph has some good horses. I want to buy them, but he refuses to sell.' My neighbor answers, 'Pay me the money, and I will sell you Joseph's horses.' The white man returns to me and says, 'Joseph, I have bought your horses, and you must let me have them.' If we sold our lands to the Government, this is the way they were bought. -Chief Joseph

I know that my race must change. We cannot hold our own with the white men as we are. We only ask an even chance to live as other men live. We ask to be recognized as men. We ask that the same law shall work alike on all men. If an Indian breaks the law, punish him by the law. If a white man breaks the law, punish him also. - Chief Joseph

Let me be a free man, free to travel, free to stop, free to work, free to trade where I choose, free to choose my own teachers, free to follow the religion of my fathers, free to talk, think and act for myself — and I will obey every law or submit to the penalty. - Chief Joseph

We do not want churches because they will teach us to quarrel about God, as the Catholics and Protestants do. We do not to learn that. We may quarrel with men about things on earth, but we never quarrel about the Great Spirit. - Chief Joseph

I believe much trouble and blood would be saved if we opened our hearts more. I will tell you in my way how the Indian sees things. The white man has more words to tell you how they look to him, but it does not require many words to speak the truth. Chief Joseph

it does not require many words to speak the truth. Chief Joseph and Randi Rhodes

A terribly hopeful song for the future:

WORLD
Got a package full of wishes
A time machine, a magic wand
A globe made out of gold
No instructions or commandments,
Laws of gravity or indecisions to uphold
Printed on the box I see: ACME's Build a World to Be.
Take a chance, grab a piece
Help me to believe it

What kind of world do you want
Think anything
Let’s start at the start
Build a masterpiece
Be careful what you wish for
History starts now

Should there be people or peoples
Money, funny pedestals
For fools who never pay
Raise your army, choose your steeple
Don’t be shy, the satellites can look the other way
Lose the earthquakes, keep the faults
Fill the oceans without the salt
Let every man own his own hand.
Can you dig it baby?

What kind of world do you want
Think anything
Let’s start at the start
Build a masterpiece
Be careful what you wish for
History starts now

Sunlight’s on the bridge
Sunlight’s on the way
Tomorrow’s calling
There’s more to this than love

What kind of world do you want
(x3)
Think anything
Let's start at the start
Build a masterpiece
History starts now
Starts now
Be careful what you wish for

Start now
Now...

Lyrics by Bob Dylan
How many roads must a man walk down
Before you call him a man?
Yes, 'n' how many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
Yes, 'n' how many times must the cannon balls fly
Before they're forever banned?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

How many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?
Yes, 'n' how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
Yes, 'n' how many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

How many years can a mountain exist
Before it's washed to the sea?
Yes, 'n' how many years can some people exist
Before they're allowed to be free?
Yes, 'n' how many times can a man turn his head,
Pretending he just doesn't see?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

What if Buddy Ebsen had not had an allergic reaction to the Tin Man makeup? Would the movie be a classic today? huh.gif

In other words, I'm in love with Jack Haley as the Tin Man. And I think every character in that movie was magically cast!

Who can say? They certainly were. He certainly is. One used to go to Go-Go Boy Nights at the bars, just to say, "Why, it's a maaan! A maaan made out of skin!"
I suppose, though, that this discourse belongs in the Movies thread. So hard to avoid Ozaddiction.
