As I walk through
This wicked world
Searchin' for light in the darkness of insanity.
I ask myself
Is all hope lost?
Is there only pain and hatred, and misery?
And each time I feel like this inside,
There's one thing I wanna know:
What's so funny 'bout peace love & understanding?
What's so funny 'bout peace love & understanding?
And as I walk on
Through troubled times
My spirit gets so downhearted sometimes
So where are the strong
And who are the trusted?
And where is the harmony?
Sweet harmony.
'Cause each time I feel it slippin' away, just makes me wanna cry.
What's so funny 'bout peace love & understanding?
What's so funny 'bout peace love & understanding?
So where are the strong?
And who are the trusted?
And where is the harmony?
Sweet harmony.
'Cause each time I feel it slippin' away, just makes me wanna cry.
What's so funny 'bout peace love & understanding?
What's so funny 'bout peace love & understanding?
What's so funny 'bout peace love & understanding?

I believe
If I Look hard enough
I will see
That there can be enough
And I believe
I can think clear enough,
To conceive
A place where there's enough

If not now, when?
If not today, then
What about tomorrow?
What happens tomorrow?

I believe
A woman can work hard,
And succeed
And we could be content,
To believe
That she could be in charge of the free,
And be the president

If not now, when?
If not today, then
What happens tomorrow?
What happens tomorrow?

If you become the change
You want to see you change
What happens tomorrow?
What happens tomorrow?

I believe
That we are waking up,
From a spell
That those that profit from the fear,
Cast so well.
And good people of the earth,
Now can tell,
There is no "us and them"!

If not now, when?
If not today, then
What happens tomorrow?
What happens tomorrow?

If you become the change
You want to see you change
What happens tomorrow?
What happens tomorrow?

All is love
All is choice
Everyone, Every voice.
All of life, that you see
All our possibilities
As above, so below
to wed the sense
Into the soul
And this is truth
I believe
I believe
I believe

Truth is of the people
By the people
For the people

Truth is of the people
By the people
For the people

Truth is of the people
By the people
For the people

Truth is of the people
By the people
For the people

If not now, when?
if not today, then
What happens tomorrow?
What happens tomorrow?

If you become the change
You want to see you change
What happens tomorrow?
What happens tomorrow?

Tomorrow, tomorrow.

I believe

Humm, noticed no one mentioned Janis Joplin in the "raise the rock star from the dead thread." laugh.gif

So here she is with some words changed to condemn the wretched. angry.gif

Janis Joplin's Take Another Little Piece of My Heart (Bushed America)

Come on, come on, come on, come on now
Didn't I make you feel, oh, George Bush, like you were the only one?
War profiteers didn't I give you nearly everything that a human possibly can?
Donald Rumsfeld you know that I did
Cos each time I tell myself that I,
I think I've had enough
Oh, I am gonna show you John McCain, that a human can be tough
I want you to come on, come on, come on, come on
And take it!
Take another little piece of my heart now Dick Cheney
Break it! break another little bit of my heart now!
Yeah, have a, have another little piece of my heart now Master Card
Cos you know you got it and it makes you feel good
Yes it does.

Yeah you're out on the street, Phil Gramm you're looking good
Deep down in your heart, you know that it ain't right
No, no.
Cos you never never never hear me when
I cry out at night
Halliburton, I cry all the time!
And each time I tell myself that I can stand the pain
Oh you take me in your arms,
I sing it once again
I want you to come on, come on, come on, come on
And take it!
Take another little piece of my heart now Countrywide.
Break it!
Break another little bit of my heart now Lobbyist, yeah
Have a, have another little piece of my heart now Bush America
Cos you know you got it, it makes you feel --It makes you feel so good.

Viva la Vida
I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning I sleep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own

I used to roll the dice
Feel the fear in my enemies eyes
Listen as the crowd would sing:
"Now the old king is dead! Long live the king!"

One minute I held the key
Next the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand
Upon pillars of salt, and pillars of sand

I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can not explain
Once you know there was never, never an honest word
That was when I ruled the world
(Ohhh)

It was the wicked and wild wind
Blew down the doors to let me in.
Shattered windows and the sound of drums
People could not believe what I'd become
Revolutionaries Wait
For my head on a silver plate
Just a puppet on a lonely string
Oh who would ever want to be king?

I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can not explain
I know Saint Peter won't call my name
Never an honest word
And that was when I ruled the world
(Ohhhhh Ohhh Ohhh)

Hear Jerusalem bells are ringings
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can not explain
I know Saint Peter will call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world
Oooooh Oooooh Oooooh

They’re just words, they ain’t worth nothing
Cloud your head and push your buttons
And watch how they just disappear
When we’re far away from here

And everybody knows where this is heading
Forgive me for forgetting
Our hearts irrevocably combined
Star-crossed souls slow dancing
Retreating and advancing
Across the sky until the end of time

Oh who put all those cares inside your head
You can’t live your life on your deathbed
And it’s been such a lovely day
Let’s not let it end this way

And everybody knows where this is heading
Forgive me for forgetting
Our hearts irrevocably combined
Star-crossed souls slow dancing
Retreating and advancing
Across the sky until the end of time

Like sisters and brothers we lean on each other
Like sweethearts carved on a headstone
Oh why even bother, it’ll be here tomorrow
It’s not worth it sleeping alone

And look at you and me still here together
There is no one knows you better
And we’ve come such a long long way
Let’s put it off for one more day

And everybody knows where this is heading
Forgive me for forgetting
Our hearts irrevocably combined
Star-crossed souls slow dancing
Retreating and advancing
Across the sky until the end of time

Color Blindness Sucks!

Strange
How a dreary world can suddenly change
To a world as bright as the evening star
Queer
What a difference when your vision is clear
And you see things as they really are

I used to be color-blind
But I met you and now I find

Theres green in the grass
Theres gold in the moon
Theres blue in the skies

That semi-circle that was always hanging about
Is not a storm cloud, its a rainbow
And you brought the colors out

Believe me its really true
Till I met you I never knew
A setting sun could paint such beautiful skies

I never knew there were such lovely colors
And the big surprise
Is the red in your cheeks

The gold in your hair
The blue in your eyes

I forgot to share rest of conversation with daughter: When I finally found the dial that turns up the VOLUME, I said, who is that? That's Coldplay's latest. I said OMG! How did I miss it. That song really grabs ya - it's the beat I think. But you know what, I've done this before with Coldplay. The catchy tune. Then after a while I just can't go back -- it's over. The catchy tune is not classic, and you can't go back. You know what I mean? Daughter said . . . I think so, yeah you're probably right. Just enjoy it right now, okay? Oh yeah . . . . .. . . . enjoying. The beat is enough, later I can memorize the words. Tell ya what I'll burn it for ya. You have it? Sure, I'll bring it over before I leave. Oh, and did you ever find my Green Day you borrowed? Uh, no. I'll burn that too.

Mother
There was a time
Our happiness seemed never-ending.
I was so sure
That where we were heading was right.
Life was a road
So certain and straight and unbending;
Our little road
With never a crossroad in sight.
Back in the days
When we spoke in civilized voices,
Women in white
And sturdy young men at the oar
Back in the days
When I let you make all my choices...
We can never go back to before.

There was a time
My feet were so solidly planted,
You'd sail away
While I'd turn my back to the sea.
I was content,
A princess asleep and enchanted.
If I had dreams,
Then I let you dream them for me.
Back in the days
When everything seemed so much clearer.
Women in white
Who knew what their lives held in store
Where are they now?
Those women who stared from the mirror?
We can never go back to before.

Women (offstage)
Aaahh....

Mother
There are people out there
Unafraid of revealing
That they might have a feeling,
Or they might have been wrong.
There are people out there
Unafraid to feel sorrow,
Unafraid of tomorrow,
Unafraid to be weak...
Unafraid to be strong!
There was a time
When you were the person in motion.
I was your wife.
It never occurred to want more.
You were my sky,
My moon and my stars and my ocean.
We can never go back to before.
We can never go back to before.

I picked up a reassuring quote from Joe Biden today that touched me. This after a weird holiday with daughter. It really helped me since my little one, it appears is now a confirmed Republican (boyfriend's influence?) and presently --- we do not see eye to eye. (big ouch)

Joe was in Florida speaking to Century Village Adult Condo Community gathering. It was a very good and warm speech.

Anyway, at one point, after talking of the joys of grandkids, he said, "My daughter is 28, and she likes me again," with a big smile on his face. (ha, ha)

Egg, had no idea. Can only imagine your pained frustration. hug2.gif wub.gif

And a woman who held a babe against her bosom said, "Speak to us of
Children."

And he said:

Your children are not your children.

They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.

They come through you but not from you,

And though they are with you, yet they belong not to you.

You may give them your love but not your thoughts.

For they have their own thoughts.

You may house their bodies but not their souls,

For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit,
not even in your dreams.

You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.

For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.

You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.

The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite, and He bends you
with His might that His arrows may go swift and far.

Let your bending in the archer's hand be for gladness;

For even as he loves the arrow that flies, so He loves also the bow that
is stable.

Thanks, David, for Gibran. Oh, she'll "like" me again - some day. And I'll "like" her again some day. And yes, she was born with clinched fist - always strong - independent. My only influence on her growing up? was surrounding her with big brain professors and friends and many
snap-your-finger-poetry-readings; lots of acting in school plays; and hanging out in
museums/libraries -- oh, and taking care of our ever-growing animal zoo.

And I like to think this quote always stood up in our house:
QUOTE
The only time I ever saw my mother really angry was when she saw cruelty, when she saw somebody being bullied or somebody being treated differently because of who they were. And if she saw me doing that, she would be furious. And she would say to me, imagine standing in that person's shoes. How would that make you feel? ~ Barack Obama

MOTHER
How they play
Finding treasure in the sand
They're forever hand in hand,
Our children.

TATEH
How they laugh
She has never laughed like this

MOTHER
Every waking moment, bliss.

BOTH
Our children.

TATEH
See them running down the beach
Children run so fast...

MOTHER
Toward the future...

TATEH
From the past.

MOTHER
How they dance.
Unembarrassed and alone

BOTH
Hearing music of their own,
Our children.

TATEH
One so fair,

MOTHER
And the other, lithe and dark

BOTH
Solemn joy and sudden spark
Our children
See them running down the beach
Children run so fast
Toward the future
From the past
There they stand,
Making footprints in the sand
And forever, hand in hand
Our children.
Two small lives,
Silhouetted by the blue
One like me
And one like you
Our children.
Our children.

MOTHER
Well.

TATEH
You say that often. "Well".

MOTHER
It's because I don't know what to say, Baron.

TATEH
I'm not a Baron, of course. I'm a poor immigrant, a Jew, who points a camera so that his child can dress as beautifully as a
princess. I want to drive from her memory every tenement stench and filthy immigrant street. I will buy her light and sun and
clean wind of the ocean for the rest of her life. Now you know me. Now you understand. I am no Baron. I am Tateh.

MOTHER
Now I know even less what to say.

TATEH
Now it's my turn: Well.

MOTHER
Thank you for your confidence. I shall keep it here.

(MOTHER puts her hand to her heart.)

SHE goes. TATEH follows her with his eyes. He is smiling.)

Thunderstruck

I was caught
In the middle of a railroad track (Thunder)
I looked round
And I knew there was no turning back (Thunder)
My mind raced
And I thought what could I do (Thunder)
And I knew
There was no help, no help from you (Thunder)

Sound of the drums
Beatin' in my heart
The thunder of guns
Tore me apart
You've been - thunderstruck

Went down the highway
Broke the limit, we hit the town
Went through to Texas, yeah Texas
And we had some fun
We met some girls
Some dancers who gave a good time
Broke all the rules, played all the fools
Yeah, yeah, they, they, they blew our minds

I was shakin' at the knees
Could I come again please?
Yeah the ladies were too kind
You've been - thunderstruck, thunderstruck
Yeah yeah yeah, thunderstruck

Oh, thunderstruck, yeah

Now we're shaking at the knees
Could I come again please?

Thunderstruck, thunderstruck
Yeah yeah yeah, thunderstruck
Thunderstruck, yeah, yeah, yeah

Said yeah, it's alright
We're doing fine
Yeah, it's alright
We're doing fine
(So fine)

Thunderstruck, yeah, yeah, yeah,
Tunderstruck, thunderstruck, thunderstruck
Whoa baby, baby, thunderstruck
You've been thunderstruck, thunderstruck
Thunderstruck, thunderstruck
You've been thunderstruck

Heart - Barracuda (1977)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpkitLUbeEg

So this ain't the end- I saw you again - today
I had to turn my heart away
You smiled like the sun- kisses for real
And tales- it never fails!

You're lying so low in the weeds
I bet you're gonna ambush me
You'd have me down, down, down, down on my knees
Now wouldn't you, barracuda?

OH!

Back over time when we were all trying for free
You met the porpoise and me
No right, no wrong, you're selling a song- a name
Whisper game

And if the real thing don't do the trick
You better make up something quick
You gonna burn, burn, burn, burn, burn it to the wick
Ooooh, barracuda!

OH!

'Sell me sell you' the porpoise said
Dive down deep down, deeper than
You.. I think that you got the blues too

All that night and all the next
Swam without looking back
Made for the western pools- silly, silly fools!

The real thing don't do the trick, no?
You better make up something quick
You gonna burn, burn, burn, burn, burn it to the wick
Ahh, barra- barracuda!

TRIUMPH - When the Lights Go Down [1983]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JxQevG-fVN4

The days grow shorter and the nights are getting long
Feels like we're running out of time
Every day it seems much harder tellin' right from wrong
You got to read between the lines

Don't get discouraged, don't be afraid, we can
Make it through another day
Make it worth the price we pay

The Good Book says it's better to give than to receive
I do my best to do my part
Nothin' in my pockets I got nothin' up my sleeve
I keep my magic in my heart

Keep up your spirit, keep up your faith, baby
I am counting on you
You know what you've got to do

CHORUS:
Fight the good fight every moment
Every minute every day
Fight the good fight every moment
It's your only way

All your life you've been waiting for your chance
Where you'll fit into the plan
But you're the master of your own destiny
So give and take the best that you can

You think a little more money will buy your soul some rest
You'd better think of something else instead
You're so afraid of being honest with yourself
You'd better take a look inside your head

Nothing is easy, nothing good is free
But I can tell you where to start
Take a look inside your heart
There's an answer in your heart

CHORUS (THIS IS THE CORRECTION)

Fight the good fight every moment
Every minute every day
Fight the good fight every moment
Make it worth the price we pay

Every moment of your lifetime
Every minute every day
Fight the good fight everybody
Make it worth the price we pay
Yeah

OLD MAN Pardon me, I was there.
RECITER You were where?
OLD MAN At the treaty house.
RECITER At the treaty house?
OLD MAN There was a tree...
RECITER Which was where?
OLD MAN Very near.
RECITER Over here?
OLD MAN Maybe over there.
But there were trees then, everywhere.
May I show you?
RECITER If you please.

OLD MAN There were trees
Then, everywhere.
RECITER But you were there.
OLD MAN And I was there!
Let me show you.
RECITER If you please.

OLD MAN (tries to climb) I was younger then...
(tries again) I was good at climbing trees...
(again) I was younger then...
(again) I saw everything!...
(again) I was hidden at the time...
(again) It was easier to climb...
(again) I was younger then...
(again) I saw everything!... (again)
Where they came and where they went--
I was part of the event.
I was someone in a tree!
(tries once more)

I was younger then!

(Suddenly a Young Boy appears, scurries across the stage and up the tree.)

BOY (to the Old Man) Tell him what I see!
OLD MAN I am in a tree.
I am ten.
I am in a tree.

BOY I was younger then.
OLD MAN In between the eaves I can see --
(to the Boy) Tell me what I see.
(to the Reciter) I was only ten.

BOY I see men and matting.
Some are old, some chatting.
OLD MAN If it happened, I was there!
BOTH I saw/see everything!
OLD MAN I was someone in a tree.
BOY Tell him what I see!
OLD MAN Some of them hae gold on their coats.
BOY One of them has gold.
(to the Reciter) He was younger then.

OLD MAN Someone crawls around, passing notes --
BOY Someone very old --
OLD MAN (to the Reciter) He was only ten.
BOY And there's someone in a tree --
OLD MAN -- Or the day is incomplete.
BOTH Without someone in a tree,
Nothing happened here.

OLD MAN I am hiding in a tree.
BOY I'm a fragment of the day.
BOTH If I weren't, who's to say
Things would happen here the way
That they happened here?

OLD MAN I was there then.
BOY I am here still.
It's the fragment, not the day.
OLD MAN It's the pebble, not the stream.
BOTH It's the ripple, not the sea.
Not the building but the beam,
Not the garden but the stone,
Not the treaty house,
Someone in a tree.

WARRIOR (slides panel open underneath the house)
Pardon me, I am here --
If you please, I am also here --

OLD MAN They kept drinking cups of tea.
BOY They kept sitting on the floor
BOTH They drank many cups of tea.
(to each other)
No, we told him that before.

WARRIOR If you please, I am here.
RECITER You are where?
WARRIOR In the treaty house.
RECITER In the treaty house?
WARRIOR Or very near.
RECITER Can you hear?
WARRIOR I'm below.
RECITER So I notice.
WARRIOR Underneath the floor,
And so I can't see anything.
I can hear them,
But I can't see anything.

RECITER But you can hear?

WARRIOR But I can hear.
Shall I listen?

RECITER If you please.

WARRIOR I can hear them now...
I shall try to shift my knees...
I can hear them now...
I hear everything...
I'm the part that's underneath,
With my sword inside my sheath.
I can hear them now...
One is over me...
If they knock, then I appear.
I'm a part of what I hear.
I'm the fragment underneath.
I can hear them now!

RECITER, OLD MAN, BOY Tell us what you hear!

WARRIOR First I hear a creak and a thump.
Now I hear a clink...
Then they talk a bit...
Many times they shout when they speak.
Other times they think.
Or they argue it...
I hear floorboards graaning...
Angry growls... Much droning...
Since I hear them, they are there,
As they argue it.
I'm the listener underneath.

BOY (peering into the house)
Someone reads a list
From a box.

WARRIOR (listening) Someone talks of laws.

OLD MAN Then they fan a bit.

BOY Someone bangs a fist.
WARRIOR Someone knocks.
OLD MAN Now there was a pause.
ALL Then they argue it.

WARRIOR "But we want..."
"No, you can't
And we won't..."
"But we need it
And we want..."
"Will you grant --?"
"If you don't..."
"We concede it..."
OLD MAN WARRIOR BOY
And they sat
through the night
And they lit
yellow tapers.
ALL (contrapuntal)
I can hear
Them.
I was
There
Then.
I'm a
Fragment of the
Day.
And they
Chat.
And they fight
And they sit
Signing papers.
If I
Weren't, who's to
Say
Things would
Happen here the
Way
That they're
Happening?
If I
Weren't, who's to
Say
Things would
Happen here the
Way
That they're
Happening?
I am
There
Still.
If I
Weren't, who's to
Say
That they're
Happening?

ALL It's the fragment, not the day.
It's the pebble, not the stream.
It's the ripple, not the sea
That is happening.
Not the building but the beam,
Not the garden but the stone,
Only cups of tea
And history
And someone in a tree.

I Am the Walrus (Lennon/McCartney)

I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together.
See how they run like pigs from a gun, see how they fly.
I'm crying.

Sitting on a cornflake, waiting for the van to come.
Corporation tee-shirt, stupid bloody Tuesday.
Man, you been a naughty boy, you let your face grow long.
I am the eggman (woo), they are the eggmen (woo), I am the walrus,

Mister City P'liceman sitting
Pretty little policemen in a row.
See how they fly like Lucy in the Sky, see how they run.
I'm crying.
I'm cry, I'm crying, I'm cry, I'm crying.

Yellow matter custard, dripping from a dead dog's eye.
Crabalocker fishwife, pornographic priestess,
Boy, you been a naughty girl and you let your knickers down.
I am the eggman (woo), they are the eggmen (woo), I am the walrus,

Sitting in an English garden waiting for the sun.

Standing in the English rain.

Expert texpert choking smokers,

See how they smile like pigs in a sty, see how they snide.

Let me tell you how it will be
There's one for you, nineteen for me
Cos I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman

Should five per cent appear too small
Be thankful I don't take it all
Cos I'm the taxman, yeah I'm the taxman

If you drive a car, I'll tax the street
If you try to sit, I'll tax your seat
If you get too cold I'll tax the heat
If you take a walk, I'll tax your feet

Taxman!
Cos I'm the taxman, yeah I'm the taxman

Don't ask me what I want it for (Aahh Mr. Wilson)
If you don't want to pay some more (Aahh Mr. Heath)
Cos I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman

Now my advice for those who die
Declare the pennies on your eyes
Cos I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman

And you're working for no one but me

Bring Me To Life (Evanescence)

How can you see into my eyes
Like open doors?
Lading you down into my core,
Where I've become so numb.

Without a soul,
My spirit's sleeping somewhere cold,
Until you find it there and lead it back
Home.

(Wake me up)
Wake me up inside.
(I can't wake up)
Wake me up inside.
(Save me)
Call my name and save me from the dark.
(Wake me up)
Bid my blood to run.
(I can't wake up)
Before I come undone.
(Save me)
Save me from the nothing I've become.

Now that I know what I'm without,
You can't just leave me.
Breathe into me and make me real.
Bring me to life.

(Wake me up)
Wake me up inside.
(I can't wake up)
Wake me up inside.

Before I come undone.
(Save me)
Save me from the nothing I've become.

Bring me to life.
(I've been living a lie.
There's nothing inside)
Bring me to life.

Frozen inside without your touch,
Without your love, darling.
Only you are the life among the dead.

(All of this sight,
I can't believe I couldn't see
Kept in the dark
but you were there in front of me)
I've been sleeping a 1000 years it seems.
I've got to open my eyes to everything.
(Without a thought
Without a voice
Without a soul
Don't let me die here.
There must be something more).
Bring me to life.

"The Rose"

Some say love, it is a river
that drowns the tender reed.
Some say love, it is a razor
that leaves your soul to bleed.
Some say love, it is a hunger,
an endless aching need.
I say love, it is a flower,
and you its only seed.

It's the heart afraid of breaking
that never learns to dance.
It's the dream afraid of waking
that never takes the chance.
It's the one who won't be taken,
who cannot seem to give,
and the soul afraid of dyin'
that never learns to live.

When the night has been too lonely
and the road has been to long,
and you think that love is only
for the lucky and the strong,
just remember in the winter
far beneath the bitter snows
lies the seed that with the sun's love
in the spring becomes the rose.

VALENTIN
I guess I have a movie, too, Molina.

MOLINA
I hope you do, my friend.

VALENTIN
Only there is no part in it for your Aurora.
There's no singing, no dancing, no pretty costumes.
Just the truth.

It was made out of mud
And pieces of tin
And boxes nailed together
Cardboard boxes
My castle
My home

And we slept on the floor
My sister and I
With gunny sacks for our pillows
Coughing, hungry, cozy
My home

And every Sunday on our knees
We would thank the Lord
For his bountiful blessings

And our mother poured soup
Into little cracked bowls
As she spoke of something better
Beef steak, maybe, someday
My home

And that lady had eyes
That were empty and cold
At the ripe old age of thirty
Death came
Welcome
To my home

And still that Sunday
On our knees
How we thanked the Lord
For his bountiful blessings

And my sister and I
Swore the day that we left
There'd be no more children like us

In the filth there
In the heat there
In the smell there

And no more Sundays
On our knees
Would we thank the Lord
For his bountiful blessings

And we came to the city
And begged for our food
Then, one April day we heard it
Thunder rumbling
One man speaking
Thousands singing ..

Someday we'll be free
I promise you, we'll be free
If not tomorrow
Then the day after that

And the candles in our hands
Will illuminate this land
If not tomorrow
Then the day after that

And the world that gives us pain
That fills our lives with fear
On the day after that
Will disappear

And the war we've fought to win
I promise you, we will win
If not tomorrow
Then the day after that
Or the day after that

VALENTIN AND FAMILIES OF THE DISAPPEARED
Someday we'll be free
I promise you, we'll be free
If not tomorrow
Then the day after that

And the candles in our hands
Will illuminate this land
If not tomorrow
Then the day after that

And the world that gives us pain
That fills our lives with fear
On the day after that
Will disappear
Will disappear

And the war we've fought to win
I promise you, we will win
If not tomorrow
Then the day after that
Or the day after that
Or the day after that
Or the day after that
Or the day after that
Or the day
After that!

I know all of us can be incandescent -- no matter what -- keeping our passions warm, even

heated --- stoking the fire of emotion, ardently in pursuit of TRUTH. This is the core definition of art.

Walter Pater once said about the Renaissance, that it was "an impassioned age, so ardent and serious in pursuit of art."

(As Specs always sez, "I post a song on this thread when it moves me.")

Fast Car, moves me right now, more than ever. smile.gif

FAST CAR (Tracy Chapman)

You got a fast
car
I want a ticket to anywhere
Maybe we make a deal
Maybe together we can get
somewhere
Anyplace is better
Starting from zero got nothing to
lose
Maybe we’ll make something
me myself I got nothin to
prooove

You got a fast car
I got a plan to get us out of
here
Been working at the convenience
store
Managed to save just a little bit of
money
Won’t have to drive too far
Just cross the border and into the
city
You and I can both get jobs
And finally see what it
means to be
living
See my old man’s got a problem
He live with the bottle that’s the
way it is
He says his body’s too old for
workin
I say his body’s too young to look
like his
My mama went off and left him
She wanted more from life than-a he
could give
I say somebody’s got to take
care of him
So I quit school
that’s what I did

You have a fast car
But is it fast enough so we can fly
away
We gotta make a decision
We leave tonight or live and die this
way

I remember when we were driving,
driving in your car
The speed so fast I felt like I was
drunk
And city lights lay out before us
And your arm felt nice
Wrapped ‘round my shoulder
And I'e-I, had a feeling that I
belonged
And I‘e-I, had a feeling I could
be someone,
be someone,
be someone

You got a fast car
We go cruising to entertain
ourselves
You still ain’t got a job
And I work in a market as a
checkoutgirl
I know things will get better
You’ll find work and I’ll get promoted
We’ll move out of the shelter
Buy a big house and live in the
suburbs

I remember when we were driving,
driving in your car
The speed so fast I felt like I was
drunk
And the city lights lay out before us
And your arm felt nice
Wrapped ‘round my shoulder
And I’e-I,
had a feeling that I
belonged
And I‘e-I,
had a feeling I could
be someone,
be someone,
be someone

You got a fast car
I got a job that pays all our bills
You stay out drinking late at the bar
See more of your friends than you do of your kids
I’d always hoped for better
Thought maybe together you and me would find it
I got no plans I ain’t going nowhere
So take your fast car and keep on driving

I remember when we were driving,
driving in your car
The speed so fast I felt like I was
drunk
City lights lay out before us
And your arm felt nice
Wrapped ‘round my shoulder
And I‘e-I, had a feeling that I
belonged
And I‘e-I, had a feeling I could
be someone,
be someone,
be someone

You got a fast car
But is it fast enough so you can
fly away
You gotta make a decision
You leave tonight or live and die this-a
Way

Die this waaay
Live and die this waaaaay
Live and die this waay.

Crossroads - Tracy Chapman

All you folks think you own my life
But you never made any sacrifice
Demons they are on my trail
Im standing at the crossroads of the hell
I look to the left I look to the right
There're hands that grab me on every side

All you folks think I got my price
At which Ill sell all that is mine
You think money rules when all else fails
Go sell your soul and keep your shell
Im trying to protect what I keep inside
All the reasons why I live my life

Some say the devil be a mystical thing
I say the devil he a walking man
He a fool he a liar conjurer and a thief
He try to tell you what you want
Try to tell you what you need

Standing at the point
The road it cross you down
What is at your back
Which way do you turn
Who will come to find you first
Your devils or your gods

All you folks think you run my life
Say I should be willing to compromise
I say all you demons go back to hell
I'll save my soul save myself

Or conquer half the world
Or claim the sun
I'll never be the kind who simply waves her hand
And has a million people do
The things I wish I'd done

But in the eyes of Heaven
My place is assured
I carry with me heaven's grand design
Gloria, glory, I will sing the name of the Lord
And He will make me shine

And I will be like Mother Mary
With a blessing in my soul
And I will give the world my eyes
So they can see
And I will be like Mother Mary
With a blessing in my soul
And the future of the world inside of me

In the eyes of Heaven
My place is assured
I carry with me heaven's grand design
Gloria, glory I will sing the name of the Lord
And He will make me shine

And I will be like Mother Mary
With a blessing in my soul
And I will give the world my eyes
So they can see
And I will be like Mother Mary
With a blessing in my soul
And the future of the world inside of me

And I will be like Mother Mary
With the power in my veins
To believe in all the things
I've yet to be
And I will be like Mother Mary
And I'll suffer any pains
For the future of the world
For the future of the world
Inside of me...

The End Of The Billion Points Of Light
Just when the Future was looking so bright and the reflecting magnification of glass and light that shine throughout the night Shining and bright And now I hear the end is near With good Union jobs and families in fear. And After Being their Over a Hundred years and all there Workers blood Sweat and tears To Tame The Darkness and Fear And Guide the light so we can see to steer our way though the night They line the Streets and in the Ceilings lighting the way the way Every night and day Shinning away is going Away. Just When The LED Shines Almost for free new lights are goanna be in demand and needed and now the jobs are going to be deleted and Innovation of a billion points of light defeated Unless A prayer is Considered.

God is a Bullet Concrete Blonde

Theres a green plaid jacket on the back of the chair
Its like a moment frozen forever there

Mom and dad had a lot of big plans for their little man
...so proud.
Mamas gone crazy cause her babys shot down
By some teenage car chase war out of bounds
It was the wrong place wrong time wrong end of a gun.

Shoot straight from the hip
Gone forever in a trigger slip
You know, it could have been
It could have been your brother.
Shoot straight shoot to kill
Blame each other, blame yourselves
God is a bullet have mercy on us everyone

Theyre gonna call me sir theyll all stop picking on me
Well Im a high school grad Im over 5 foot 3
Ill get a badge and a gun and Ill join the p.d.
Theyll see
He didnt have to use the gun they put in his hand
But when the guy came at him, well he panicked and ran
And its thirty long years before they give him another chance
And its sad sad sad

John lennon, doctor king, harvey milk
All for goddamn nothing
God is a bullet have mercy on us everyone
