Dell has announced today that over the next 12 months it will upgrade all of its laptop displays with mercury-free LED technology, which it calls a "major achievement in its commitment to become the 'greenest' technology company on the planet."
Here's what Dell Product Group SVP Jeff Clarke had to say:
"Our customers have made it clear that they want the greenest technology possible"
"As an industry, we can shape the future of green innovation and significantly reduce the carbon footprint associated with mobile computing. Dell is committed to leading the transition to energy-efficient LED technology."
The change will happen swiftly - two-thirds of Dell's Latitude E-Family laptops will see LED backlighting as a standard feature by December. Here's to mercury-free displays!

It's good to see more companies are going to switch to LED for their displays. Apple has the option already in their computers. But, it's not exactly a standard yet.
LED is a more brilliant display than LCD. But, as the article notes, they're also Mercury free.
