This makes it easier to believe he called his wife a trollop and a c*nt. He gets so angry he forgets he's on a live televised debate and lets loose. So yea, it would be easy for him to lose it and press the nuclear button. ohmy.gif You can tell by the forced smirk that he's really seething inside.

Perhaps Senator McCain is just calling them as he sees them?

There have been several famous cussers in the Oval Office. In fact, it (cussin') may even be a requirement ................

That (bolded) is exactly true. And the problem isn't in the "calling", it's in the "seeing".

McCain has been in the box so long (generations) that he doesn't even know he's in the box. He thinks he understands what Obama is talking about, and can judge it, but the truth is his life experience isn't broad enough to even understand it. He is no friend of the middle class, vets, anyone but himself and those like him or useful to him.

So bully for him, for saying it like he sees it. No more need for personal development in the "saying" department; now it's time for Karma to help him work on the "seeing" department.

Great point. Reminds me of Cheney telling Sen. Leahy to go f*ck himself, on the Senate floor. These Republicans reveal themselves as emotionally immature, like little bullies in the sandbox. How sad that they grew up to be nothing more, nothing less... than just that.

It's a typically journalist ploy to pick a name from the list of world leaders and see if it's recognized by a candidate for political office. Think your smart? Then answer the following question without looking it up first ..............

Who is the current President of Azerbaijan?

It's a hot spot in the world. They have Oil. It's predominately a muslim nation. They fought a war with Armenia.

Clue: He's been the President since October of 2003 ...............

Clue: He suceeded his father, who was president since 1993 ......... same last name?

To obscure a nation? Not a major US ally?

How about Norway. Been a Nato member since the inception of the Organization. They border Russia.

Who's the current Pres of Norway?

Oh, don't forget, you MUST pronounce the names correctly as well.

The answers?

Egil Olli -- İlham Aliyev

Now figure which answer goes to what question. THAT should be fairly easy.

Does the Honorable Senator Obama have all the President's and Prime Minister's names memorized?

If you claim that he does, then I have a counter claim ............ "Horseshit".

Yeah, he said it was horse shit because he never meant to say he wouldn't talk to the Spanish leader, he made an ass out of himself basically. lol He forgot who the leader of Spain was and he was talking about Latin America in the interview. Randi played it on one of her shows and it was also on Rachel Maddow. McCain kept talking about Latin America and the interviewer had to remind him "Well I'm talking about Europe." Which I think he thought she said "I'm talking about you. Would you meet with the leader of Spain?" I mean I thought she said you instead of Europe. The audio feed that I heard of it was not of good quality. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/09/18/b...p_n_127346.html
I'm not excusing McCain in anyway though, he should be on his game about these things and for us to have a leader who does an interview like that would be really bad for our relationship with Spain.
To be fair it is debatable whether he said horse shit or not. I've heard stuff about this before. Olbermann thinks he said "of course". Daily Kos thinks he said "horse shit", a lot of people are questioning if he said "horse shit" but on the transcript it says "of course". I dunno what I believe, but it's hilarious regardless.
And Iveatch, if there had been any inclination that Obama said the word horseshit your people would be all over it like a bad habit and talking about how nasty it was of him. So I don't want to hear any excuses for the "horse shit" he might have said. It's against the rules in these debates to use profanity.

first ~ none of us are running for president with claims that we are the best at foreign affairs.

and second ~ mccain made a mistake. he didn't seem to know where spain was in the world and okay shit happens but the least he could do is not utter horseshit when indeed obama was stating a fact that mccain did say that he wasn't sure about meeting with spain.

BTW: Iveatch, I don't claim to know all of the names of the world leaders, but I am not planning to run as president of the United States, and he should have been educated about that before he went and talked to this reporter.

We aren't insulting his character because he didn't remember the guys name. We are questioning his ability to lead because of that. You would be wise to do that to. Do you want our president going around alienating us from other countries by showing that he know the name of their leader? Do you think that would reflect well on the United States?

Thank you, AlwaysaLiberal, you're giving a fair rendition of the event. Senator McCain missed the transition from talking about Central America to Spain. This is true even though the interviewer mentioned the segue directly. Sometimes it's just best to cop to misunderstanding the question as opposed to try and bulldog through with no admission of a mistake.

Now why did Senator Obama mention this incident? Did he really think that Senator McCain wouldn't meet with the President of Spain? Senator Obama was getting in a shot at Senator McCain's mistake was all.

It would have been a fair critique if Senator Obama had represented it as a hit against Senator McCain's missing of the topic seque change by the interviewer. Instead he (Senator Obama) offered up a condescending line about "Senator McCain apparently believes that we shouldn't meet with the current President of Spain". This was not Senator McCain's intent. I'm sure that he would meet with the current President of Spain dispite political differences.

Senator Obama was deliberately taking a mistaken statement at face value to get in a dig about Senator MCCain's refusal to concede the mistake in the first place.

Hence the "Horseshit" comment.

Haha. Seriously. That reeks of desperation.

This is SPAIN for chrissakes, not some obscure Latin American country or some Third World Wannabe.

SPAIN.

And McCain claims to be a Foreign Affairs expert!

The journalist wasn't trying to trip him up! She (I think it was a she, I forget since it's been a while since I heard the tape) went out of her way to clarify WHO she was talking about and WHAT COUNTRY she to which she was referring.

And every single time she did, McCain continued on some weird Latin America-Western Hemisphere-centric rant/talking point.

I mean, the reporter gave him the name of the official, for pete's sake, all McCain had to do is go "spain. will we talk with spain. . . .yes, one of our NATO allies, we will talk to spain. . . "

It really wasn't that hard a question!

In fact, he was given multiple opportunities to admit to the gaff, the long and drawn-out gaff, by the way, from which he was given several opportunities within the interview to recover. But not only did he not admit to the "mistake," but he later sent out his surrogates to say he knew exactly what he was talking about and that he could not commit to any sort of meeting with Spain. Pretty bizarre way to try to recover one's footing!

So, in fact he did say he wouldn't take a meeting with the leader of Spain! And, McCain is right about one thing, that was a "horseshit" thing to do!

Exactly ... when asked the next day what the hell was McCain talking about, his staff clarified that he was indeed talking about Spain ... the European Spain, and not that socialist anti-American Latin American Spain.

So, when Obama said that it was unclear whether McCain would even meet with Spain, he was stating a fact stated by McCain's own confused words and confirmed by McCain's staff.

There was no "horse shit" in Obama's statement so get over it ... your guy is just an angry old white guy who is not very smart. It has occurred to me that what's really going on with McCain in this incident (the reporter's question about the Spanish Prime Minister) is he doesn't LISTEN--whether as a result of his PTSD or just being old. The question, though posed with a strong accent, was CLEAR. His answer was obfuscated at best--why not just say, "no, I'd never meet with that slimey Spaniard" or "of COURSE I'd meet with any NATO ally!"?

It's an unrepentant gaffe--whether or not he said "horseshit" later during the debates is unimportant.

McCain's way of answering questions are as bizarre as Sarah Palin's but for some reason, he gets a pass.
