ABC News has a special report, where 'Sorry, Charlie" is reporting it. They have so far layed the blame in the laps of the Republicans, with both Charlie and the first analyst (Jake Tapper) have made the point that the large number of Republicans who refused to vote for it were the problem. Some mention that Pelosi's speech may have been too partisan and put off members from supporting it. Also, many Republicans stood on principle (theirs, anyway) and refused to support a government bailout.

To stay on topic, GREAT, it needed to go to the trash, because it still doesn't have the following dialog.
1. Force all off-balance sheet "assets" back onto the balance sheet, and force the valuation models and identification of individual assets out of Level 3 and into 10Qs and 10Ks. Do it now.
2. Force all OTC derivatives onto a regulated exchange similar to that used by listed options in the equity markets. This permanently defuses the derivatives time bomb. Give market participants 90 days; any that are not listed in 90 days are declared void; let the participants sue each other if they can't prove capital adequacy.
3. Force leverage by all institutions to no more than 12:1. The SEC intentionally dropped broker/dealer leverage limits in 2004; prior to that date 12:1 was the limit. Every firm that has failed had double or more the leverage of that former 12:1 limit. Enact this with a six month time limit and require 1/6th of the excess taken down monthly.

I don't think the left-right paradigm is going to work. This is collapse by Bankers. It's been in the design for quite some time.

I applaud the House for voting this down. I appreciate that the Democrats put in some safeguards for those of us they expect to pay for the bailout, but I'm still against the bailout. I don't like the idea of even fewer people owning even more of our economy, but JP Morgan and other companies taking over the businesses that are failing, is better than We The People having to pay for this.
