How many of you actually read the bailout bill? People here keep screaming about things that weren't in it, complain about omissions that actually were in it, and have shown a generally poor understanding of the bill itself.

Be honest, how much of the bill did you actually read?
rememberearth
i read it.

i read it.

Thank god. I've finally met the other person on this board who read it. It's nice to finally meet you.
Hardball
Yep.

I brought it with me to work today and perused it in my downtime. I had every guest in the building peaking over my shoulder, and shaking their heads like they didn't know what to do.

i read a summary...i am not reading 100 plus pages of that sh*t...the summary did not cause me to want to dive deeper into...and top that off, my job had the audacity to give a summary that gave points to their favor!

Read the full text, it won't take more than an hour.

Besides, what else are you doing that could be more important?

I share your concern about giving executive power to anyone on this issue but the Secretary gets executive power because he would be part of the executive branch.

Congress does not have the authority over the execution of its bills; separation of powers, constitutionality etc.

it would have given the power to the secretary of the treasury.

Yeah, competent people who are not liars.

You'll never find enough.

It's people like you who are why it took so long to regulate smoking, why the first bill failed. It's people like who who are why the first attempt at universal healthcare failed and why it's taken over a decade to even bring up the topic again.

You're all so concerned about finding that perfect storm of the right program with the right people that you seem to forget that the shit won't stop hitting the fan just because you aren't satisfied yet. Like waiting for the surgeon to stop you from hemorrhaging because the paramedic isn't good enough.

After the Republicans in Congress totally crapped out the stock market dropped. 777 points lost in total with almost 200 points lost in the last 15 minutes of trading. $1.2 trillion were lost, almost twice what the entire bill would have cost had everything that was proposed been spent (which the Treasury Secretary wouldn't even have the authority to do). That's not just lost on the big companies we all know and hate, that's the smaller ones too who never deserved our ire. Anyone with a 401k, that is to say anyone who is in the middle class, should take a look at what they have left. I'm fortunate enough that I can still work, my parents each lost $15,000; my aunt who is planning to retire lost $10,000 and that's before all the crap that just happened today. My aunt who is already 65 is considering staying at her job because she doesn't think she has enough to move back to the old country.

The bill was a bandage on our economy. None of the commissions it set up were permanent, Sec 120 says specifically that all the authorities given are terminated at the end of 2009 with a maximum extension to September of 2010 after a Congressional review of the program. Now we're just going to bleed out.

Rome is burning, you've put the fiddle in Nero's hand and given him an orchestra.

I don't care that you think for yourself. I care that your disastrously wrong -- and surprisingly more infantile than me.
