I heard that Jeff Farias and Manzo have been fired from NovaM. Jeff's picture is gone and there is no schedule of shows that I could find. What does this mean about the future for Randi and Malloy?

I received a call from Jeff this morning, he told me he had been fired. He wants to stay in touch so asked me to pass on his email address, it's jefffarias at qwest dot net

It is strange too that people are reading this and not responding. I wonder what this means for Randi and Mike. Don't people care? Is this the downfall of NovaM?

Got the news about half an hour or so ago. I can't believe this! This close to the election, we need every single progressive voice we can gather together to keep us all sane and motivated. I listen to Jeff every afternoon when I get home from work. I miss most of his show, but usually catch the last hour. This is just a shock! And Manzo too? WTF? Also appears they got rid of Kim Macias, their Sales Director. I checked the KPHX website about 20 minutes ago and Jeff's picture and links were still there. ARGH! This just sucks!

What the hell, not again I can't take another dryspell of no Randi.. no way man..... I will sooooo pull my support of NOVA sooooo big time. This is the wrong time for this crap, we are in the home run strech of the winning run.

Don't know what's happening but it's not just there.

Two weeks ago, our only talk station that's not owned by ClearChannel went religious overnight. Now while that in itself is not unusual, it is part of a disturbing national trend.

ClearChannel is cutting jobs also. Just not air personalities yet.

The truth is WE don't matter! The bottom line is ALL that matters. And they will do whatever it takes to maintain it.

Well I just checked the site and he is still scheduled. As for Manzo who knows.....I have Nova M on now while working outside and I did catch Ms. Black saying something about a 2 hr show 5 days a week but I'm not sure what she was talking about........

There's nothing on the NovaM board or at UNN on this at all. Now, there's something I've noticed in the past year or so. I'm wondering if Randi might not be a jinx. Consider the following:

1.Last year Janet and I go on the Randicruise to Alaska. The cruise is sponsored by KPSD the progressive station in San Diego. Within a month KPSD changes formats to all-sports-talk.

2.Janet and I attend the infamous San Francisco benefit for Green 960. After a week, the fit hits the shan, Randi's off the air and she's let go of her contract on AAR. Most Clear-channel owned stations back her, leading to her current NovaM contract.

3. Last year, I go to the KPHX benefit in Phoenix. Randi and Jeff are there as the two marquee stars in attendance. Now Jeff is gone as well.

Now, don't get me wrong. Randi is VERY good at what she does and none of these things are her fault. But after seeing John McCain as a jinx and Jonah, I may just have it on my brain lately.

I am really upset about this.

Here's where I would like to see this go.

We need to have a collaborative of talk hosts and such. to BUY a Station and not only own the product but the facilities as well.

Too often really popular people get caught in the game and are either forced out for financial considerations OR never get the proper chance due to the wrong motivations.

Just like Obama funded his campaign through mostly small donations I feel WE can take control of what we hear in a similar manner.

The first thing we need to find is a cat herder. To do this would take someone of this skill set to get it going.

Check the NovaM site, there is no Farias and no schedule.

Tell Jeff we thank him for his support and we will give him the same. This is not over. We have communication here so we can collectively use our resources.

We are living in a time where the truth hurts. Randi is telling the truth. The Kkkarl Roves in this world are going to dump on her every way they can. She is the biggest threat to them they can think of besides Obama. Do not look at Randi being a jinx, she is a lightening rod of abuse of power at this moment and time. I have been there. It sucks when everyone around you is playing the CYA game, and you are the only one proclaiming the truth. This is where you find how much guts you have and how big your balls are.

To put it in more hard-headed economic terms, this might be the scenario.

With the New Depression and Credit Crunch, small businesses have less to spend on Advertising. Whenever I've listened to KPHX, their local sponsorship was quite high, a good thing considering Corporate America's boycott of sponsorship on progressive radio in general. With business down, local businesses are feeling the squeeze and cutting their ad buys. NovaM has Randi and Mike as the marquee stars in their network while Jeff is a local radio host. If the Drobnys are cutting budgets, who are they going to ax? Either of their two big ratings draws or the local guy?

According to Anita Drobny, only Kim Macias was fired.

Jeff Farias and Bily Foster left Nova M by their own choice.

And, yes, John Manzo is no longer with Nova M Radio.

Manzo leaving is going to crush Randi. They were the best of friends, I watched "Left of the dial" and Randi was soooo scared, he was there to talk her through it. Randi just cussed out Ralph Nader for messing up the election coming up. When he walked in with the lady who took the phone calls and was in charge of sales, they told her that everyone was calling in wanting to talk to Randi, wanting to know all about her, the look on Randi's face was priceless. Imagine a little girl who just pleased her daddy unexpectedly. She is who she is, but needs her friends just like anyone else.

Reading through all the posts in this thread and many elsewhere on the board, it appears that many here know each other off board, and /or board members are more of a private group of friends who congregate here, than a random anonymous general population board. Perhaps I've wandered into a radio industry board, don't know. And that's cool, way cool.
