Then try to support them with even weirder statements?

I found this in my bulletins today from one of those Myspace musicians I should purge from my friends list(Like i did with nearly 80 the other night) Joe Hollywood.

Profile here: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea...69-363c04a55de3

Here's what the bulletin says:

QUOTE
My vote is...

I am NOT voting.

I am NOT registered, I just missed the deadline to register today in my community.

[and YES i am a citizen, born in Cedar Sinai Hospital]

I like BOTH presidents for the election, I think they have great ideas and they can help the country greatly.

About 150 years ago my ancestors came from Italy and France and moved into NYC. My family has been apart of the USA army for several years and generations. So DON'T tell me i am not American for not voting. I am very confused over this election. I like both Obama and McCain.

This whole election is overwhelming, and i currently gave up on it.

So wait, what? He is not voting because he missed the deadline and would've been confused who to vote for anyway? That is so BS...
TapDuncan
Maybe he should spend less time on my sapce and more time doing research so he could've made up his mind, and had more time to go register. No excuses moron.

That guy is a chump. slap2.gif If he actually paid any attention at all, or had any clue whatsoever, he would vote. wtf.gif

Clearly, this man is too stupid to vote.
Llydis
I think I'm just going to purge him. He's irrelevant, I just like like a couple of his songs.
Llydis
Come to think of it, that wasn't the only myspace friend I had that went with the "no vote" idea.

I'm sorry but that idea is scary and wrong. A lot of people who go with "no vote" are the kinds of people who actually refuse to say where the heart of all this BS lies. In our collective inactivity.

And maybe, in the grand scheme of things, it's a good thing he doesn't.

That doesn't mean I'm for a literacy test to vote or anything, I just really wish the regular folks were more informed.

My "in-laws" are visiting this week from up nord and they're both going to vote, but "ma" said she wishes they were more informed about all this "politics stuff".

I set the DVR to record the debate tonight -- it's a good night for "family" teevee. cool.gif
Hardball
I tried reaching my brother for months, and the registration deadline in Florida came and went with him still adamant that he doesn't care.

I was over to my mom's for dinner last night, and he was there too. I head butted him for refusing to even vote. Then we had a couple of beers and played some guitar hero.

What is to like about McSame? So you like it when they tell you something and do another? You like the thought of your company health care getting taxed upon your hourly wages? I guess you do wish to pay more and get less. I paid thousands to get health care even after getting company insurance, so that is all I need is it to cost me more than it already does. I cannot believe these people remember to breath.

rofl.gif I don't know. That sounds like someone who knows they should vote for Obama and doesn't want to though. I would bet it's a repug.

Let's look at this logically.

I took him off my friends list. His political inactivity statement goes against what America should be about. Therefore he has no place on my friends list.

I took him off my friends list. His political inactivity statement goes against what America should be about. But, since I like a couple of his songs he is off my friends list.

Which one makes more sense?

Who knows their excuses... too few Americans vote. America has one of the lowest voter turnouts of any major industrialized nation.

The only countries lower than us are Switzerland and Poland.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voter_turnout

Our 54% voter turnout is even 10-15% lower for midterm elections, when there isn't a general/presidential.

Personally, I don't want to require people to vote, but on the other hand, we should make it easier. In many other countries, election day is a holiday, or spans several days, or is over the weekend. Why do we ask people to vote on a workday, where in many cases their employers won't allow them to go vote. And then we wonder why there are long lines at 7 PM.

Early voting should be publicized better and be in more locations, too. It irritates me they complain about long lines on election day, but then don't address this problem, either.

Doesn't matter.

My take on this would be to ask you why do you seek approval from strangers in order to disassociate yourself from other strangers ? If you like his songs listen to his songs. I you don't like his politics don't listen to his politics.
If you don't want to be friends with him flip him off and move on. You don't need anyone's approval to do this.

If you're just making conversation please disregard my comment.

True enough, I guess I'm just a little cranky after listening to Bush's speech this morning.

These stupid children -- utterly clueless on what people had to go through so they CAN vote at all.

One of the logical results of "no child left behind".

Idiots.

They said every state has early elections. I don't know what they were just talking about because we don't have early voting here in PA. They have absentee ballot voting but that's just if you can't get to the polls on Election day I thought.

But people when you go to vote don't wear Obama stuff. Whatever you do.

Aforementioned idiot on MySpace aside:

I feel some people don't vote because they feel election fraud is taking their vote straight to the trash.

Not to mention the Electoral College is a joke, as I'm sure you well know.

We're learning more laws are coming into place making it harder for Americans to vote.

Is it any wonder people are becoming frustrated and/or disenfranchized?

Just sayin...

That might be true, but I'll still vote on the off chance that it will count for something rather than just tossing in the towel and making the assumption that it won't.

Point taken.
I registered to vote and 18 and have voted for every single election since. No issue too big or too small for me smile.gif

There is, IMHO, never a good reason to not vote. No vote should ever be viewed as a throw away vote. That means I support voting for third parties if you like them more than the rest. That means I support you voting even if I don't agree with your vote. That means I support your voting even if it's an uninformed vote.

I do think, though, that all high school juniors and seniors should be required to take a Civics class where they learn how our system of governance works. Juniors should take Local Civics. Seniors should take National Civics. I HATE HATE HATE that we have people born in this country who know less about how it functions than those who have emigrated here and had to take a citizenship exam.

Well the "Others" have opened up the first salvo of explaining why John McCain got crushed in November.

Who said it?

It's not true. Sure looks like less than 50 states on this table to me.

http://www.ncsl.org/programs/legismgt/elect/absentearly.htm

Looks like about 23 to me.

And I don't know about states with early voting other than Florida, but I find they do not do enough to publicize that it's open to everybody (not just people who think they can't vote on election day - a common misconception), nor the dates it runs and the locations where you can do it.

I had to google to find out, but here in Miami-Dade I see you can start voting early on 10/20.
http://www.miamidade.gov/elections/vote_early.asp

I just find it weird I had to google to find out when it started and the locations; why isn't this shouted from the rooftops?

To X-ray:

Nah not offended. I was just weirded out by your post. smile.gif

As for the issue in general. I'd rather people vote for third parties if they don't like the two primary parties we have in the USA. There is probably a good Green or, even, Libertarian candidate out there.

Although, my voting right now, is skewed towards Obama because he's the better choice of maybe puttiing the country back on track. If he isn't, then we learned our lesson. But, it's better to try than to vote for McCain. I know he's going to fuck it all up.

Well then, allow me to apologize once again.
I have to keep it in check. I have to avoid losing my mind. I must rebuke the scorched earth policy and remember to be civil. Especially with friends.
