We hear the saying," they will get thiers some day." and with the Chenneys of the world it never seems to happen. Well the markets and the crisis that can beexpected to last through election day has shielded Obama from the swiftboating the gopers are so good at.Almost worth loosing half my retirement to see.

I really feel sorry for people who had 401k's, including my wife. I don't have anything except SS, and I'm glad they didn't get their hands on that.

Just like 1932, the GOP will go away for another 40 years.

Remember in any ten year period there are 3 good years (1998-2000) three bad years and four so-so years in the markets. IMO, many companies have solid portfolios and much of the collapse is black-op engineered. With a Democratic Admin for the next 40 years, the market will recover provided we don't enter a protracted period of stagflation.

The RipleysAliensPublicans know they would be an instant grease spot if they stole SS. Scorched earth does not adequately describe the aftermath of them ruining SS.

I have said for two years now, that I believe the the "October Surprise" is an engineered stock market collapse.

This time for good.

I have hope that history will finally stop repeating.

I think Einstein must have postulated this, but it was mysteriously lost in a time warp while riding a comet.

There may be time to rebuild our 401-k. My wife and I have actually agreed to simply not open the statements until things improve - there's nothing we can do now, and there's no good to be done by jabbing icicles into our hearts. The E-Trade account I amateurishly diddled with a decade ago and have left untouched since then has lost 85% of its value in the last two months, but that was money "we could afford to lose." Hell, BEFORE 2008 came, I was the only guy in the US who managed to LOSE money on Microsoft stock. I also lost money on a defense contractor after the Iraq war started (that's not what the business was when I bought in) I have that magic touch - corporation killer.

But the investment trust accounts for my 15 year old's college funds- unaggressive. stable and careful as such things can be without being in passbook savings - have been utterly decimated. Six months ago at least his first 3 years tuition in virtually any US University was a lock. That's gone now.

And my property tax bill came today.

You mean Bush was wrong about that neato privatization idea?

Has anybody asked McCain how he feels about that now?

I admit to confusion over the markets but I just found a great explanation;

"A simple explanation !

Once upon a time in a place overrun with monkeys, a man appeared and
announced to the villagers that he would buy monkeys for $10 each. The
villagers, seeing that there were many monkeys around, went out to the
forest, and started catching them.

The man bought thousands at $10 and as supply started to diminish, they
became harder to catch, so the villagers stopped their effort.

The man then announced that he would now pay $20 for each one. This renewed
the efforts of the villagers and they started catching monkeys again. But
soon the supply diminished even further and they were ever harder to catch,
so people started going back to their farms and forgot about monkey
catching.

The man increased his price to $25 each and the supply of monkeys became so
sparse that it was an effort to even see a monkey, much less catch one.
The man now announced that he would buy monkeys for $50! However, since he
had to go to the city on some business, his assistant would now buy on his
behalf.

While the man was away the assistant told the villagers. 'Look at all these
monkeys in the big cage that the man has bought. I will sell them to you at
$35 each and when the man returns from the city, you can sell them to him
for $50 each.

The villagers rounded up all their savings and bought all the monkeys. They
never saw the man nor his assistant again and once again there were monkeys
everywhere.

Now you have a better understanding of how the stock market works."

Cheers,

For years I have worked alongside non union workers. They had a good paycheck and told me about their 401K. I could not offer them anything so I just went on with my business, being I was always fighting with my union representatives. After all those battles, I still have my pension, and my career. The reps don't want to fight with me anymore, they know I was correct and I also can overturn their apple cart in a heartbeat. I do hope those guys do have a 401K when they retire, this is not over yet.

Take it from someone who knows. Any job with a union is better than any job without a union, unless you are one of the people at the top.
