"It appears a Sharon Stone movie marathon won’t be coming to China anytime soon.

The actress is facing a boycott of her films in China after suggesting the May 12 earthquake, which claimed more than 65,000 lives, was a result of “karma,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Stone made the controversial remark during an interview with Cable Entertainment News of Hong Kong last week at the Cannes Film Festival.

“All these earthquakes and stuff happened and I thought, ‘Is that karma?’ When you are not nice, bad things happen to you,” Stone said in the interview. “I’m not happy about how the Chinese are treating the Tibetans, I don’t think anyone should be unkind to anyone else. They’re not being very nice to the Dali Lama, who’s a good friend of mine.”

Stone’s comments drew harsh criticism from the Chinese media and were branded “inappropriate” by the head of one of China’s largest movie theater chains, who vowed his company would not run any of the actress’ films.

Ng See-Yuen, head of the UME Cineplex chain, chastised Stone for bringing politics into a conversation about a natural disaster which as left 5 million people homeless in China.

Stone currently has four films waiting to be released."

Stone has been dropped by cosmetics firm Christian Dior from its Chinese adverts following remarks she made about the recent earthquake.

The firm's Chinese office also issued a statement attributed to Stone, in which she apologised for saying the disaster could have been the result of "karma".

Stone, 50, models for Christian Dior, and the company's Shanghai office issued her apology.

"Due to my inappropriate words and acts during the interview, I feel deeply sorry and sad about hurting Chinese people," the statement said.

"I am willing to take part in the relief work of China's earthquake, and wholly devote myself to helping affected Chinese people."

Dior's China branch also distanced itself from Stone's remarks.

"We don't agree with her hasty, unreflecting remarks and we deeply regret them," it said in a Chinese-language statement.

"We absolutely do not support any remark that hurts the Chinese people's feelings."

Around 20,000 people are still missing following the earthquake, with five million left homeless.
