"Since January 2007, global crude oil prices have risen by 109%; gasoline prices in the U.S. have risen by 77% (roughly apace); gasoline prices in China have risen only 9%.

Gasoline in the U.S. now sells for around $4 per gallon, but it sells for $2.49 per gallon in China. Beijing last raised domestic gasoline prices in November 2007, by 9%, and that was the first and only hike since January 2007, when crude was $87 per barrel. A recent rumor that China was about to lift its gasoline-price controls was quickly dismissed by Beijing."

How much are you paying for gas? Depends on where in the world you're parked. In oil-producing nations like Venezuela and Iran, you can fill up for as little as 17 cents a gallon
. But in tax-happy Germany and South Korea, you'll pay more than six bucks. So even when prices hit near-record levels in the US, American drivers get off cheap compared with European motorists. This summer's bargain road trip: a tour of the Zagros Mountains, from Tehran to Abadan!

How to Check Prices around the world

Step 1 Go to the Energy Information Administration's website. This website offers statistics regarding global and national energy usage.

Step2Click on "Petroleum" from the main menu. You'll be redirected to another menu that lists different tools that you can use to track gas prices and supply estimates. Select "World Crude Oil Prices."

Step3Examine the different prices given in American dollars. The costs shown reflect dollars per gallon of petroleum gas. The chart displays the prices for the last month. If you want a global gas price history, you can select the link that lists prices as far back as 1978.

Step4Check back weekly for an update on the cost of what consumers pay for gas in other countries. Each week, new figures are computed into the charge. You can compare the numbers to the previous week's prices

True, but in Germany at least you have a working public transportation system whereby you can get anywhere in the country for cheap. Ich lieben das Deutsche Bahn! (apologies to any actual German speakers)

We need to wake up! The federal credit card is causing everything to go up. We don't produce anything other than debt, so as we keep printing, the dollar takes a big crap. It is only a matter of time till this so called war bankrupts the country. Our soldiers will be hitch hiking home.
