Hardly a major shock, but still a milestone.

A statewide survey released yesterday showed a first-ever majority of people in California support same-sex marriage, a finding that pollsters describe as a milestone driven by young people.

About 51 percent of registered voters in California favor the idea of allowing gay and lesbian couples to wed, while 42 percent disapprove, according to the private Field Poll survey service.

To be fair and balanced, there is a poll from a couple of weeks ago that shows something like 41% in favor to 52% opposed, but over the past 20 years the trend has been toward support and acceptance and it seems to be continuing.

It is good that young people are more accepting of same-sex marriage and gay people in general. Once the old folks and bigots die off in this country, I think we can actually have full marriage rights nationwide. It will be a miracle if same-sex marriage becomes legal nationwide before then.

Here is a link about Jenna and Laura Bush's appearance on Ellen. Best. Lesbian. Week. Ever. (May 30, 2008)

Jenna seems much more comfortable with Ellen. Laura, on the other hand, was her typical uptight self. It would be really funny if Ellen and Portia did get married on Bush's ranch.

Again, I think these polls are bullshit in that they can't really reach younger voters, since most of the polls are done either by calling on an old fashioned land line or possibly on line via a computer, (many young people have only a cell phone and a DLC line only) but, you need to be on line to take the poll. So, my feeling is way more young people support gay marriage but the pollsters can't reach them.

My young person, my daughter certainly supports gay marriage, seeing that she has so many gay friends, and she's straight.
