Well I just sat there saying “Oh my God, Oh My God” for about 2 hours last night.

America made History last night when Barack Obama became the nominee of the Democratic Party for the Presidency of the United States. The moment had come. History being made right there on the TV.

A black man running for President. Who would have ever thought after Katrina that any of this was possible? Who would have thought that this country would set their fear aside and go with optimism and hope and CHANGE for the better?

Who could have imagined that dynastys would crumble last night? Who would have thought that after 8 years of “So?” we would see a man who got it right get the Democratic nomination for President?

The politics of fear and entrenched power and of ‘SO?’ would be over.

But the moment was stolen from us before it even happened. And not by Dick Cheney or George, or even John McCain.

One of our own stole it from us.

Before Barack Obama’ could even accept the nomination of our Party, Hillary Clinton had her chance to give her speech. It was breathtaking.

While Obama gave an important and inspiring speech about what is possible in America by adopting a new set of policies and while he got a chance to enumerate some of his accomplishments after 2 decades of public service to his country and while he laid out his vision for all Americans: A new economy to rebuild what is crumbling, early childhood education, health care for all, college for all, middle class tax relief, taking care of our soldiers at long last, ending this bloody oil occupation in Iraq and strong diplomacy to repair our image in the world most of us were trying to recover from what had come just ahead of his MOMENT – Hillary’s speech.

Hillary did not congratulate Obama on being the nominee of her party and refused to concede that this election is over.. She had promised a concession speech once Obama reached the NEW magic number 2118. She promised to unify the party around the nominee as soon as that nominee had become clear. She said she’d “work her heart out” for the nominee of her party. She said she’d unify the Democratic Party. But she failed to deliver. She did not congratulate and would not conced.

Last night Hillary Clinton allowed history to slip away in favor of talking about herself. What should have been a defining moment for American leadership become the defining moment for and of HILLARY.

Hillary’s speech was about HILLARY. Her future, what she wants and a plea for her supporters to not give up and to go to her website and help her by giving money so she can pay off the debts she ran up during the primaries.

She began well enough, by recognizing Obama’s long and hard fought primary season, but she never congratulated him on his nomination. An historic nomination. The first black man to win the nomination of a major political party for the Presidency of the United States. She said she’d be making no decisions. Not even a decision about grace.

Her campaign is more than $20 Million in debt including $11 Million she lent herself. The last day for her to raise money is the day the Democratic National Committee casts it’s votes for the nominee in Denver. After that she is prohibited from raising money for her campaign debts.

Yesterday I told heartbroken Hillary supporters that she could win me over if she would give a speech last night showing leadership and support for the party’s nominee. If she’d rally her supporters so we could stop being so divided BY HER. She only confirmed my deepest fears about her. Americans are props. This is all about Hillary Clinton.

Obama may have thrown his pastor under the bus for political expediency but Hillary has thrown all of us under the bus for MONEY and POWER. Power she should never be given.

CNN has been wild this morn. A special segment on world reaction shows news agencies world-wide featuring Barack and Michelle in the headlines. World coverage has been unusually favorable.

I love the "Why Hillary Lost" article. The last line sums it up well, "It was just hubris."

I look forward to the followup, "Why Hillary is not VP".

From the homework assignment (Clinton Kabuki), Howard Fineman says:

QUOTE
But there is talk that Obama will tentatively offer, or make some kind of gesture in that direction, the VP slot to Hillary, but only, only on the understanding that she promise in advance (through intermediaries if not directly) not to accept! "She doesn't want it and would not take it," said one source very close to her. "But she would like to be asked, and that is the Kabuki theater we are about to engage in." (Clinton spokesman Howard Wolfson called the notion "silly," adding, "She has already said she would do whatever she could to help the Democrats take the White House back.")

The Clinton forces also have another wish: whomever Obama ends up choosing, he not pick another woman, even after the kabuki ends. "Hillary's supporters, and Hillary herself, can't stand the idea that he would pick another woman," said another source who is personally close to the Clintons. Now, that is what they call chutzpah!

And why does Hillary care so much that Obama not pick another woman? Perhaps because Hillary has spent the last several months turning herself into the tribune of millions of working women. She deserves a lot of credit and respect for doing so. She is still their candidate, and she doesn't want to cede that to another Democrat of the same gender.

Hi Randi -- Here's a comment form on Senator Clinton's site: http://www.hillaryclinton.com/help/contact/

The comments on her blog are awful. Some of them have to be trolls, but I fear many of them are from 'low information voters.'

Hilary Rosen a huge Hilary supporter says it perfectly in the Huffington Post.

But not my vote. I will enthusiastically support Barack Obama's campaign. Because I am not a bargaining chip. I am a Democrat.

Here is her statement....
Senator Clinton's speech last night was a justifiably proud recitation of her accomplishments over the course of this campaign, but it did not end right. She didn't do what she should have done. As hard and as painful as it might have been, she should have conceded, congratulated, endorsed and committed to Barack Obama. Therefore the next 48 hours are now as important to the future reputation of Hillary Clinton as the last year and a half have been.

I am disappointed. As a long time Hillary Clinton supporter and more importantly, an admirer, I am sad that this historic effort has ended with such a narrow loss for her. There will be the appropriate "if onlys" for a long time to come. If only the staff shakeup happened earlier; if only the planning in caucus states had more focus; if only Hillary had let loose with the authentic human and connecting voice she found in the last three months of the campaign. If only. If only. I have written many times on this site about the talents of Hillary Clinton and why I thought she'd make a great President.

After last night's final primary, she was only about pledged 100 delegates behind him. Ironic that after not wanting to make the decision for so long, it was in fact, the superdelegates who made the decision. But I guess they did so for another reason. It just isn't her time. It is his time. It's a new day that offers a freshness to our party that many have longed for. We felt the rush of new voices and a new energy in the Congressional sweep of 2006 and the sweep continues. It has been an organic shift. And a healthy one.

The life's work of Bill and Hillary Clinton in partnering with so many African Americans uniting our purpose and promoting our mutual issues is as responsible for Barack Obama's success as our first African American nominee as anyone. And yet, that joy is being denied for them by themselves. It is so sad.

So, I am also so very disappointed at how she has handled this last week. I know she is exhausted and she had pledged to finish the primaries and let every state vote before any final action. But by the time she got on that podium last night, she knew it was over and that she had lost. I am sure I was not alone in privately urging the campaign over the last two weeks to use the moment to take her due, pass the torch and cement her grace. She had an opportunity to soar and unite. She had a chance to surprise her party and the nation after the day-long denials about expecting any concession and send Obama off on the campaign trail of the general election with the best possible platform. I wrote before how she had a chance for her "Al Gore moment." And if she had done so, the whole country ALL would be talking today about how great she is and give her her due.

Instead she left her supporters empty, Obama's angry, and party leaders trashing her. She said she was stepping back to think about her options. She is waiting to figure out how she would "use" her 18 million voters.

But not my vote. I will enthusiastically support Barack Obama's campaign. Because I am not a bargaining chip. I am a Democrat.

Give it a rest already. I can't barely listen today. You're letting your obvious dislike for Hillary Clinton feed the fire of Democrats being divided. The writing is on the wall and no matter how often people have disregarded the facts Obama has looked ahead and over come blips. bumps and obstacles. Become a part of the solution instead of part of the problem, Randi. Your passion should be directed at McCain right now. Let the Hillary thing play out...we all knew there would be no concession last night anyway. Why so surprised?

But, she'll be a very good finder. Obama is very wise to have her head this up. Can't imagine her wanting to be a pol, though she would be a fabulous, knowledgeable statesperson like pol. Oh, if not for this history, and her being the sole survivor of her particular nuclear family.

Oh! God, Give US Strength, pleassse!

I just let out a breath from the last caller on Randi’s show. IT IS OVER. SHE LOST...IT’S TIME TO GET ON WITH IT.

I had high hopes last night that she was the lady I supported as First Lady when the right wing conspiracy was leaning on her. As an American and a female, I felt at that time we needed to express to her our support in letters and phone calls. I had high hopes last night that Hillary Clinton would speak from common sense voice and not through the voice of those who got into the situation which caused her to loose the nomination. But her speech was all about Mrs. Clinton which confirmed for me that she is NOT the right woman for the nominee.

To say I was disappointed is true, but more than that I became angry. Why couldn’t she acknowledge to the world, (because you better believe the World was watching) last night, that she had LOST?

It is OVER…

Senator Barrack Obama has always acknowledged her abilities, qualities, skills, and her hard fought wins. He was always the first to pick up the phone to congratulate her on her wins. He NEVER demanded she leave the Race, and is not telling to what to do NOW. He was very gracious in his speech regarding Hillary Clinton which made me believe that she would do the right thing this Morning at the AIPAC.

Again she let me down; Senator Obama gave a definitive speech stating where America stands on Israel, terror, and America’s role in supporting Israel. Disappointingly, Mrs. Clinton’s speech was a continuation of her I Agenda.

Again, given the opportunity Mrs. Clinton disappointed me.

Clinton supporters need to realize that Mrs. Clinton goal now is to get contributions from them to help pay HERSELF out of DEBT. If you go to the site, you can only leave a comment if you make a contribution. This is how Hilary Clinton intends to USE her 18 Million supporters. Do you want to be a bargaining chip or do your want to be a part of making the much needed change for this Country?

Senator Obama said it best; “this day is not about Hilary Clinton, or John McCain or even me, Barrack Obama. It’s about YOU, the American People.”

Every democratic race has ended when the magic number was reached with “I have just gotten off the phone with so and so who has just conceded the race.” This has united the party and everyone fights to DEFEAT the REPUBLICAN candidate. The time is now.
