That's a good choice. I want to think this over before I add my two cents, but the first thing to pop into my head was Fresh Cream by Cream.

This is a great album, but it is hardly Madonna's first.

Yeah, I aw them open for BB King at Winterland on their first tour, but I was always a BIG Yardbirds AND BB King fan. Here's another good first album from just another band from LA:

Here's the first Yardbirds record I bought with my paper route money. Dogwoman and I burned a doob with Chris Dreja and Jim Mccarty backstage at the 98 Long Beach Blues festival. We also got Peter Green's autograph and had Cesar Rosas from Los Lobos standing behind us in the autograph line.

And another great First Record:

Dude,

Might have to agree on this one - I played it on my phongraph until the grooves turned gray and went to total "popcorn." I went to almost every Pretenders concert in the LA area.

If yer a jazz fan, I went total tharn to Don Ellis' Tears of Joy when I was a kid.

Later, I thought Weather Report's Heavy Weather was killer.

My family (except me) was a bunch of amateur jazz musicians so I got exposed to all the cool jazz and soul stuff: Henry Franklin (12-tone), RTF, Stanley Turrentine, EWF, etc.

Birth of the Cool was on the phono at home all the time. So was anything with John Coltrane.

Without Neil Peart? It's just not the same, but I guess Metallica isn't the same wthout Kirk Hammet either.

Lots of good ones.

I'm tied between Zep's first, which really was a beautifully done piece of work.
Could be one of the best Blues records of all time too....

...and...

Boston. They made it in the basement for crissakes.
It also happens to be flawless. Perfect music.

Of course, I do have the ultimate tie breaker. The REAL best debut album of all time.

I went to a lot of Days on the Green, too. I went to the very first one at Kezar with the Dead, Waylon Jennings and the New Riders. And I seem to remember one with Leon Russell headlining. I think the Beach Boys were at that one, too.

The Wilson girls could kick out the jams with the best of them, but their first is my favorite. More acoustic and light. Some delicious guitar work.
