Plodder, I'm curious as to what year you saw The Kinks. I saw them twice, once in 1975, and in '76 or 77, and thought they were very good.

I saw "The Association" at Black Hills State University, in 1971 I believe. I may forget the date but I remember the concert like it was yesterday it was awesome.

I can't recall the year for sure but it would have to be 1 of the 3 you mentioned. Like I said they were out to lunch that day and I wasn't. We and many others left half - way through and I do recall reading the critics in the local paper after (whom I don't always read) and they agreed with me (us). There was something wrong with Ray Davies (drunk, stoned, both?) that day.

As I sit here thinking about it, that might have been 77 because I think I recall that there was some kind of dispute amongst the members regarding Ray's drinking before a show and I think they stopped touring shortly thereafter........

let me say that I always enjoyed their music but the live show in my particular case stunk.......

Best:

Bruce Springsteen 2x's -Oakland
Moody Blues
Crosby, Stills & Nash
Eric Clapton
Jethro Tull
Sting
Pavoroti
Led Zepplin - Berkeley Community Theater - my ears hurt for days.
John Denver

Worst:
Neil Young - he walked off stage. I remember someone yelled, "Neil Young doesn't have a heart of gold!"
Backstreet Boys - my daughter's first concert. too many screaming little girls.
Rainbow2005
I just remembered this.

Another worst concert:
Mazzy Star at The Fillmore (San Francisco) - 1994

They were over an hour late probably because they were doing drugs. The audience was getting very annoyed with the long wait. Were they worth it? Hell no. They sucked. I was tired and sleepy and their songs were so slow.

Rock concerts can damage your ears literally and more so depending on the band. laugh.gif

Depends on the ears rolleyes.gif
I've seen them all, Roy Orbison in '65, Traveling Wilbury's, Paul Revere & the Raiders, The Who, Henley, Annie Lennox with Bowie, Cream, Joplin, Love the hard rockin' Flat Out Boy...really all of them except the Beatles, wasn't a fan but liked the single acts Few disappointments. Rush..all songs sound the same.
martsmart
Paul McCartney and Wings, Cow Palace 1976.

BEST Concert EVER!

Second best...Janis with Big Brother, last performance together. Incredible.

Many worsts, lol...

Chuck Berry at a Palo Alto club, mid 80's...staggering and slurring, just terrible.

I have seen the Doors WITH Jim Morrison...Santa Clara Pop Festival. He was totally wasted, a perfectly normal Doors concert, lol...

I have seen the Kinks several times also...both drunk and performing badly...and hot and fantastic.

Always been hit or miss with those guys, lol...

Oh wow I totally forgot about them.

Love King Crimson.

There were so many great events during that time. The lesser experimental bands always seemed to get my attention: Dry Jack, Roxy Music, Brian Eno, Billy Cobham, The Explorers, etc. I think you should listen to U.K. as Eddie Jobson, Brian Eno's replacement in Roxy Music is the keyboard/violin.

Speaking of that era... Wife and I are going to see Cheap Trick do their tribute to the Sgt Pepper album at the H'wood Bowl this Sat. A 'delic 60s event.

Worst- Grand Funk Railroad in 1985.

Best-Santana 1974 (Crater Festival)
Queen in 1981.(Festhalle in Frankfort)
Bob Marley 1981.
Rolling Stones 1982 (Seattle)
Makaha Sons of Niihau featuring Israel Kamakawiwo'ole (1983) at Ranchhouse Restairant
Police 1983 (Aloha Stadium)
The Who 2004
U2 2007

Best show ever for me was some years back when The Pat Metheny Group did a "just for the fun of it" tour. No album to promote, just playing some fan favorites. Incredible show.
Worst ever was a few weeks ago. My band was playing at a motorcycle rally. One of the acts that went on before us was a solo acoustic act. He was awful. A few tunes he started, he couldn't finish as he forgot the words. I kinda felt bad for him.

I was lucky enough to be at Live Aid in Philly too...it was the first time I actually saw Keith Richards, Mick and Ron Wood live, although Mick didn't play with them...unfortunately, Ronnie, Keith and Bob Dylan kinda sucked sad.gif

The Dead shows here at Cal Expo were always great- small audience, great times.

Best concert musta been Tom Waits in Oakland at the Paramount- 1996...I've seen him 3 times there (1996 and 2 shows in 1999) and once at the Beacon in NYC...A friend and I scalped tickets that night (no regrets) and I was friggin' giddy over getting in...his percussion set-up alone was eye-widening: gongs, drums, "other things"...just amazing. He's stunning stunning stunning...wub.gifwub.gif

Worst (in my brain right now) was Marc Ribot and Bill Frisell...Ribot (one of Waits's best guitarists) was playing with his Los Cubanos Postizos band and they were great. Frisell wasn't what we were looking for and we walked out...it was just boring to us.

Best: Concert for NYC-2001
Bruce Springsteen (1977)- 1st time I truly listened to Bruce.
Eric Clapton - I think it was 1986 or 7- Nassau Coliseum
Beatles at Shea 1965- I tried to listen, gave up and screamed away.

Worst: Davy Jones at some 1960's revival
Smashing Pumpkins at the end of the Live Earth Concert- sorry my ears still hurt.
