Marine sacked for throwing puppy off cliff June 12, 2008 12:43pm
A US Marine has been kicked out of the corps and another has been punished after a video surfaced of Marines throwing a puppy off a cliff in Iraq.
The video, which was posted on YouTube, showed two Marines joking and holding up a puppy before it was hurled into a gully.
Marine Corps Base Hawaii said today that Lance Corporal David Motari received unspecified "non-judicial punishment" and "is being processed for separation" from the Marine Corps, the Associated Press reported.
The second Marine, Sergeant Crismarvin Banez Encarnacion received unspecified "non-judicial" punishment.

Good, they should've both been kicked out, NJP is a standard procedure, where you are tried by your commanding officer. This was truly disgusting to me, a huge dog lover, it just goes to show that not all Marines get the whole Honor and Integrity thing. I was in with some really screwed up people. I rmember a couple of them that would go into San DIego on weekends and mug people, I turned them in after hearing them brag, but there was nothing the Corp. could do about it. Good ridance I say.

Yeah, I wouldn't watch the video when it was linked all over, here and elsewhere. On the other hand, I also remember some of the patronizing and knowing analysis from those who assured us there was obvious evidence and artifacts galore that the video was trickery, bot sleight of hand and electronic manipulation.
I'm puzzled as to how/why both didn't get the ax, but I'd speculate one got lighter treatment fro rolling on the other.
Given the reaction of those who did believe it was genuine - a national uproar over footage of the guy throwing a puppy over the cliff, however, and there never has been a similarly unified, coherent unanimity of opinion as to all the human beings we're killing, including untold numbers whose greatest sin was sleeping on their roof through the hot part of the year.

Yeah, it's that old bit- something like (sans funny): you can kill two hundred people in a movie, but if you want an emotional reaction... kill the dog.
The reaction
was fascinating.

I watched the video. It was disgusting. The reason it was so disgusting was the dog was no threat to the soldier, and the dog was not a victim of "collateral damage" or "collective punishment" as so many humans are. It was simply a young creature, being held in the air, apparently with some trust for the person holding it. The act was gratuitous cruelty. The armored, tecnologized marine who threw the puppy was apparently incapable of empathy, and delighted in killing the puppy for no reason except his own amusement. The video made it more immediate.
Trust me, if it had been a human child, under the same circumstances, the outcry would have been even worse, and the revulsion greater. I am certain the same type of gratuitous cruelty is applied to humans, but not usually on video.
It's so sad that there are such people among us, probably in greater numbers than we'd like to think.

I hate to see guys lose their military careers over killing puppies, but what I would like to see is those chickenshits pushed off a 20'-30' rocky cliff in only their boxer shorts and see how it feels to them bouncing and skidding down the slope. No medcial help either. Let them lick their own wounds. That's how somebody is taught what it's like to be thrown off a cliff.

And unfortunately this may show a deterioration of the marines' mental health. There's a correlation among abusing animals to escalating violence against people. Many serial killers have a history of torturing animals. (NOTE I'm NOT saying these marines are going to become or are serial killers or represent a danger to people in the US.)
*shake head*
I hope these marines can get help, and can recognize it, if they need it.
In a weird way it reminds me of the movie "In the Valley of Elah" with Tommy Jones.

AB--Those guys never had a 'career', they were most likely 4 year men, get in, get out. They should be in Leavenworth, like some of the scumbags I was in with. But I'm sure one rolled on the other, as Bushwa speculated. Still, they can never mention their service on a job app., and then some saavy interviewer will ask what did you do from this year to this year? Well I was throwing puppies off of a cliff, didn't you read about it? I'd like to throw them off a cliff.
