This is my CONGRESSWOMAN, so proud of her for serving with such a pride the Miami - Ft Lauderdale gay community

(Washington, DC) -- Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-20) joined Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin (WI- 02) and Congressman Barney Frank (MA-04) for a press conference announcing the formation of the House of Representatives LGBT Equality Caucus. The mission of the caucus will be to achieve the extension of equal rights, the repeal of discriminatory laws, the elimination of hate-motivated violence, and the improved health and well being for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity or expression.

“Equality for our gay, lesbian and transgender friends is not negotiable. I am proud to represent Fort Lauderdale: one of the largest LGBT constituencies of any congressional district and one of the country’s most popular LGBT travel destinations,” Rep. Wasserman Schultz said.

Rep. Wasserman Schultz was asked to serve as a Vice-Chair of the LGBT Equality caucus. Since her early days in the Florida Legislature, LGBT equality has been a cause for which Congresswoman Wasserman Schultz fights passionately. She believes strongly that the Democratic majority in the House has the opportunity and the responsibility to move towards legal equality for all Americans. “Our Constitution demands equal justice under the law, nothing more, nothing less.” said Rep. Wasserman Schultz. “As a Member of the House Judiciary Committee, I know that lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered Americans are awash in a sea of inequality.”

Congresswoman Wasserman Schultz, a member of the Florida Red and Blue Advisory board, also spoke out against so-called “marriage protection amendments.” Speaking to those who oppose LGBT equality, the Congresswoman stressed that Americans must reject divisive attempts to enshrine discrimination in state Constitutions.

“These ‘marriage protection amendments’ strip away the ability to visit loved ones in the hospital, harms our seniors, eliminates insurance benefits for non-married couples, and requires the government to take an even larger role in all our lives,” said Rep. Wasserman Schultz.

I think that this is extremely good. Sadly, it's not enough just to have gay and lesbian legislators (trans isn't even on the map yet). They need a presence, a focal point, and maybe this will be it.

Yeah, she's done a lot. Barf. Like do everything she can to derail Conyers efforts to get impeachment and other efforts before the judiciary. Wise up boys, she's a tool for the DCCC and DNC. She'd be no where without Emily's List.

Real change for us happens always in CA. Why don't you boys just stay out of the way there in Florida. You'd help us out more by staying on permanant vacation in S. Beach and Ft. Lauderdale. That way, you won't get in the way of us adults who are actually doing Goddess work to get you your civil rights. Oh, is that last call at the bar I hear?? Better get goin'. In the meantime, we have serious adult discussions to be had with President Obama and Mrs. Clinton, who is in his cabinet. Kiss Kiss! That comes from Perez Hilton!

Excuse me, gotta grab something to put on these kitty scratches biggrin.gif If you're including me as one of the Florida boys you've got it wrong.
I live about 3,000 west of there and have only visited once.

Isn't it one of the marks of a good puritan to piss on other peoples' fun while touting your own righteousness and good works? I'm glad you're doing what you're doing. I'm also glad that other people are all excited about going to NYC Pride and just enjoying themselves. I'm somewhere in the middle when it comes to this. Maybe we could emulate Obama and accept that there is room for people who don't necessarily share each and every one of our personal priorities.

Oh please you're either too stupid or just a bitter man who clings to message boards attacks and profile others according to your idiotic points of views. As for the impeachment hearings; don't be a bully going after the little dude (Debbie Wasserman Shultz). Why don't you go after the big fish such as the Speaker of the House, who clearly said that there were going to be NO impeachment hearings under her watch and your candidate for 2008, Barack Hussein Obama, doesn't even want to talk about it; for Obama and his staff, it's a do-not-touch subject?

As for the bars last call, you maybe need to get out more and have a drink or 2. I read your sentences as someone who's going through the symptoms of alcohol withdrawal.
