I don't think that any of you have acted mature... I find some of the things said to Jesse just as offensive as some of the things that Jesse has said. A lot of the posts are boarding homophobic and that dissapoints me as a progressive. Jesse is a young kid.... he's going to make mistakes. None of you guys would like me either when I was 22 years old. I was such a cocky asshole.... I had no friends. Give him one more chance... if he doesn't change then, cut him again.

i am with ya on the some of the comment directed at him, but rules are rules. I think some of the other hatefull talk should be looked at as well. When being attacked we all tend to fight back.

Getting back to the topic at hand.

My whole problem with the "is sexuality a choice or is it biological" argument is that it is used as a predicate for whether to grant GLBT people civil rights. Thus, if it IS a choice, then we shouldn't grant GLBT people civil rights, because they can "change." But if it is NOT a choice, then we should grant civil rights, because gay people "can't help it."

Why not change the argument? Whether or not it's a choice should be irrelevant to the fact that people should be granted the right to love who they want to love. None of the arguments against marriage equality are based on any civil law precedent; they're all based on religious bias that has no place in American jurisprudence. That's where the argument should be. The argument of "nature vs. nurture" acts as kind of a distraction from the real struggle for civil equality.

He has said some very offensive things.... I have read some on those things on other threads as well. I am not trying to excuse him.... I am trying to help him grow up a little and see the error in his ways. The gay community is the target of so much hatred that I think that people like Jesse are on the defensive all the time... even when it is not warranted.

The bottom line is that so many young people today are not involved. Granted Jesse doesn't have all of his facts straight... but where there is an interest, there is opportunity to learn. We need more young people to get involved.

Also, because he is so young.... he didn't live through civil rights era.... I think the young people don't understand why we still have discrimination. It makes them impatient. The them rights are a no brainer... and it should be that way for everyone.... but it is not the reality. It is going to take time to get equal rights for GLBT community.

And finally the homophobic things I have read makes me as sick as some of Jesse's post.

Jesse needs to learn that by using hate as his weapon, then he is no better than the people who oppress him.

Although I didn't live through the peace movement.... I was born in 1975... I still long for the love... the peace... the understanding.

In my opinion, he has made broad attacks upon the gay community as a group, he has put our community under attack because of his hatred for one candidate...to characterize our community in such a way opens itself up for personal attacks because I did not elect him our spokesperson or leader. I really don't think it is a personal attack if the person creates a sock puppet to further attempt to sow upset or discord.

While I see your point.... I would also say that it is the audiences fault for putting all gays in the same category. An intelligent person would know that Jesse doesn't speak for all gays. Just like all whites, blacks, women do not think the same... I think we would all be doing the GLBT community a disservice by putting all of you in the same box.
