ABC News' Ed O'Keefe Reports: Laura Bush may be ready to give Michelle Obama the benefit of the doubt when it comes to her patriotism but Cindy McCain may not.

"I don't know why she said what she said," Mrs. McCain explains in an interview with ABC News' Kate Snow airing on "Good Morning America" Thursday. "Everyone has their own experience. I don't know why she said what she said, all I know is that I have always been proud of my country."

Hmmm...maybe because you're WHITE and absurdly WEALTHY!

Speaking in Milwaukee, Wisconsin today, would-be First Lady Michelle Obama said, "for the first time in my adult life I am proud of my country because it feels like hope is finally making a comeback."

Then in Madison, she said, "For the first time in my adult lifetime, I'm really proud of my country, and not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change."

So four months later, this is an issue for Cindy McCain.

What has Cindy McCain ever needed "hope" for?
What has Cindy McCain ever needed that mommy and daddy couldn't buy for her?
What has Cindy McCain ever needed or hoped for in her adult lifetime that she hasn't been able to put on her credit card?
What kind of "change" has Cindy McCain needed in her lifetime?
Has there been an attack on her way of life or upon her heritage as a wealthy white woman?

I'd guess she's just been proud that her wealthy status has not been in jeopardy because of the absurd tax cuts she's been given over the years...I'd say the political system has worked perfectly for her and it should be brought up...drag her down into the mud from her high pedestal, let's sling some mud back at that perfect blond princess and see how she feels!

Hey if Cindy McCain wanted to understand why Michelle Obama said what she said, then she should call her up and ask her. If she doesn't care to know, but just to do political tricks on command, then she should not call her, and just go on national TV to express her confusion.

Especially 4 months after the fact.

These people are so transparent.

Boy, the headline on this had me going for a minute. I thought it was about Cindy Sheehan, not the wife of McShame.

I think McCindy's problem in understanding this is she was proud of the actions taken in the name of our country all throughout the Bush Crime Agenda of the last 8 years. There was no lapse in her pride during the response to Katrina, the rush into Iraq, the stealing of 2 elections, the VP shooting his lawyer in the face while drinking and hunting... all of it. She was proud of every moment. So it is difficult for her to understand how rational and thinking people such as Michelle Obama could have experienced lapses in their pride for the country while these and many other embarrassments were done in our names.

Especially proud of the Republicans decimating the middle class since the Reagan/G.H.W.Bush years ...

They can't come right out and use race, which is what they want to do, so they use patriotism as code. What Cindy should do, is focus on controlling her husband's temper banghead.gif , get help( because I think she might be suffering from an eating disorder) puke.gif and stop pandering to the very people who slimed her and her extended family and drug issues in the 2000 election. owned.gif

In the age of gotcha politics it was an unwise thing to say, especially in light of the wright/patriotism issue. Ignorant people will say "hmmm, not proud of her country, wright must have got to her". They think this because others have influenced their thoughts through religion, so why not Michelle?

They can relate!

Unfortunately, it was just a poor choice of words. Once people get to know her, and how eloquent and intelligent she is, this too will pass. But it will be an issue until they do.

Cindy McCain doesn't think what she said is true, she is just attacking Michelle Obama because John and his handlers told her to, period.

Catty shot against Michelle . . . but to the point about wealth: wealthy people are people too. : confused-smiley-013.gif Paris Hilton knows she is not left out. rolleyes.gif

Cindy McCain is far from perfect, but she can't help what was handed to her at birth - even though it may've been handfuls of valium even then. closedeyes.gif The silver spoon CAN be cumbersome.

And the reason she waited four months? Didn't want to trip over Hillary or Bill, now did she.

~~~~~~~~~
Meanwhile, looks like we're all going to have to be super politically correct (dust off your lapel people) and/or the Reagan way of patriotism (watch that flag unfurl) until Obama is elected, and pretend America has ALWAYS been perfect - yeah right.
How do we get out of this absurd political trap?
TammyStickers
Michelle Obama does not need to defend her patriotism. If anything, it is Cindy McSame who needs to defend hers. After all, look at the party she is a member of. If you support the party, you are responsible for the policies.
I actually feel sorry for Cindy in a weird way! Maybe it's because my mother was a battered woman and I can see the pain in her eyes. Look at her if you can stand it, and you can see how she's really unconfortable around Grandpa. He treats her like trash.
He doesn't even acknowledge that she's present. Notice how she always walks behind grandpa like he's her pimp and looks sad even though she's the one with the money! Something just aint right! I think grandpa actually hates women...
Me too. Her and Laura Bush to be honest. I feel bad for both of them and often wonder what they would be like if they'd married better. I think Laura has a lot of potential but now, after all those years in that family and with that, ummm, person, she's an empty shell.
This is what happens young women when you run over your boyfriend so please, drive carefully and keep the hormones in check. rolleyes.gif
Recently, Laura Bush has really gone up a little in my estimation of her. She's really said some things that I never would have thought she'd say and she's even said some things very publicly like her defense of Michelle Obama.
The Cindy McCain comment sure looks like something from someone who was born on third base and think they hit a triple.
Like it or not Michelle and Barack Obama are the American dream. Work hard, strive hard, achieve gracefully seems to be what they are about.
Cindy and John McCain, not so much.
Michelle Obama needs to talk to the American people. In a manner that is suitable for her. Michelle Obama will discuss her values, goals and life. She does not have to explain anything to an over privileged person like Cindy McCain.
Like I said, I often wonder who she would be if she hadn't tied herself to the Manson family. I think the woman has potential to be so much more than she is.
Why people stay in bad relationships I'll never truly understand.
In watching her, I have always felt like she was in a abusive relationship.
Cindy McCain has balls calling anyone unpatriotic. Isn't her family the one that has made their fortune and the silver spoon stuck down her drug addled throat all on mob money?
Cindy should shut up before the questions come up on her stealing drugs from a charity and getting a sweetheart deal on charges.
She should shut up if making your fortune is from Daddy taking the rap for the mob and getting an AB distribution center because of it. Oh Cindy, just hope that MSM doesn't do their job honey or you'll be back stealing drugs from charities.
Read this article....there is a lot more out there too. American Mafia and Jim Hensley
Hmmmm....very interesting point....I'll have to take note of that....
I've definately seen fear in Laura Bush's eyes (once you get passed the medicine look, of course) and I think she's absolutely petrified to say anything against what Bushie boy might say! Did you know that Laura Bush was a Democrat when she married Georgie Porgie, and they made her change??
The sheeple are confusing "pride" with "gratitude". I am grateful beyond measure that I was born in the USA, but PRIDE?
Pride in our highest leaders committing unspeakable war crimes in my name?
Pride in the hateful racists who are given voice on FAUX News?
Pride in "Christians" who preach hate and intolerance as the "American Way"?
Pride in the unwashed and uneducated lowest common denominators of American society who buy into all the propaganda?
After eight years of The Bush Crime Family, all I feel about being American is SHAME.
It's kind of sad that your feelings about being an American are based solely on who's in the White House. There's a lot more to this country than that.
Amongst all the media teeth-gnashing over the question of whether McCain did special favors for his blondie lobbyist, his wife’s sweetheart deal for massive narcotics theft in the 1990s has been forgotten.
If a poor black woman from Anacostia had committed the crimes that Cindy McCain committed, the black woman might have been sent to prison for the duration of her life.
Here are the details from an article I wrote for Playboy in 1997. The McCain excerpt is about a third of the way down, in bold.
* Cindy McCain, the wife of Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.), admitted stealing Percocet and Vicodin from the American Voluntary Medical Team, an organization that aids Third World countries. Percocet and Vicodin are schedule 2 drugs, in the same legal category as opium. Each pill theft carries a penalty of one year in prison and a monetary fine. McCain stole the pills over several years. She became addicted to the drugs after undergoing back surgery.
But rather than face prosecution, McCain was allowed to enter a pretrial diversion program and escaped with no blemish on her record. McCain did suffer from the incident, though: Shortly after the scandal broke, a Variety Club of Arizona ceremony at which she was to receive a humanitarian of the year award for her work with the medical team was canceled because of poor ticket sales.
