Great. Now just kidnap a few queens and let's repopulate the hives industrial style.

We need those fucking bees back now.

We actually did this!

My mom and dad had a honeybee infestation in their house (this is apparently becoming a more and more frequent problem), and knowing about the CCD problem didn't want to gas them (as it turns out, most exterminators in Georgia won't kill honeybees anymore due to worries about colony collapse). A guy who owns an apiary in central Georgia has a service where he comes out to the house, uses a gentle vacuum to gather up all the bees (and the queen) into a collector, removes the honeycombs and any traces of pheromones, then moves the colony to his farm.

I'm glad I was 30 miles away when the guy came 'round, but it's still a fascinating process.

These aren't of my mom's house, but it looked very similar:

We have bees under the barnwood again after they disappeared a couple years ago, presumably from the mites.I presume they were wild and built up immunity naturally. It's such a pleasure to watch them at work again! We never ever stole their honey, either.
