The day before the start of the Labor Day Weekend, when all local plumbers were out of town, on vacation, my new housemate dumped dirty water down my tub drain. Now the plumbing in my house is, in the drain area anyway, original. That means it is over 60 years old and has pieces/parts they don't make anymore, angles they don't try anymore and basically, if you take it apart, you replace it cause you ain't getting it back together again.

So, he was gone and I started the shower, just before class of course, and noticed the tub was not draining at all. So I took a sponge bath and headed off to class, then went directly into work and discovered the next day that my plumber was out of town until after the holiday.

I called around, every plumber that I knew I could trust was out of town for the holiday. I talked to my friend (housemate's mom) and she talked to a friend of hers who does this sort of stuff on the side. He came over Sunday to try, but whatever was in there blocking that drain was strong enough to resist the snake. It was maximum birth control!

We figured it must have been the slip from the stopper. The stopper that has been a decoration only for the 19 years I've lived in this house. The theory was that it must have broken off and was now blocking the drain. So of course this meant instead of around $100 to clear it out, I'd probably need around $250-300 because pipes would have to be taken apart and replaced.

Of course on the bright side, it was no longer the fault of the young housemate who had not shown up since the blockage was discovered.

So Labor Day came and went, I continued to miss my shower and the housemate continued to not be around. I finally got hold of the plumber, he came and suctioned the drain clean and the first thing I noticed sitting on the little dresser, a small catnip mouse.

The door to the bathroom doesn't always close and the new housemate didn't have the kittens from hell as long as I have, so he didn't realize the hell they are on bathtub drains. He kept leaving the bathroom door open, they kept playing in there, so either there was a mouse in the dirty water he flushed down that drain or they stuffed a mouse into the drain trying to get it out after it fell in there. Because the bathtub is their favorite place to play.

Therefore, I have to tell you, I don't find this one funny. Not at all. In fact, since the check I wrote to the plumber still hasn't been cashed, two weeks later, and is screwing with my accounting system (or lack of one), the pain still lingers.

Its trick photography. Somewhere in our family photos is a picture of me standing in my brother's hand. Dad had too much time on his hands.

I'm so disappointed. I was hoping there were real mutant kitties.

Yes.
She's the watch cat outside. We have two well-fed cats and a pit bull inside.

Amazing how well those "mean, aggressive" pitbulls get along so well with kitties isn't it.
