all of these type things seem to have dif meaning depending on who is saying them. We must be carefull because what is good for the goose...... Just look at all the age quotes for mccain. "kerry with a tan" does not sound like a racist type comment, sounds like a description. Should he have said black Kerry?
He was trying to be "quotable" and keep some public interest in his causes, thats why he tried to come up with something clever to say about him. If it was good, every repug would use his neat little catch phrase. Think of "flip flop", "cut and run", "up or down", all repug catch phrases regurgitated over and over by everyone trying to keep the message identical.
It just turned out that he is a little too backroom for his own good, and he said something that he probably would say in a smoky room to a bunch of CEO's, to the amusement of all.
And no, a "Black Kerry" doesnt work. "Kerry with a better tailor, a hotter wife, a smaller jaw, etc" would have been clever.
Don't inject race into it, bad idea.
