If a Democrat says it can it possibly be WRONG?

What did you think of Wesley Clarke’s comments about McCain’s service not qualifying him to be President?

Is that the right way to point out that John McCain has lost all credibility because he has become a World Class Heavyweight Champion PANDERER and was WRONG on Iraq, Afghanistan and is WRONG on IRAN? Never mind all the flip flops on Social Security, Tax cuts for the RICH, Oil drilling, Immigration, and Evangelicals being the Agents of Intolerance.

Is it ok when a Democrat says someone’s Military Service was the wrong kind of Military Service as a way to point out poor judgment?

The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs points out that the next attack will come from WHERE AL QAEDA IS and that’s NOT IRAQ!!

I don't like to even bring up Afghanistan without talking about Pakistan, because I think they're linked, and I think we need to make sure our strategy includes not just Afghanistan but also Pakistan. We have a heavy focus on the FATA (Federally Administered Tribal Areas), and I think that's right. Clearly, if I were going to pick a place where the next attack is going to come from, that's where al-Qaeda is, and we're going to need to figure out a way to resolve that challenge.” - Admiral Michael G. IMHO.....No one should devalue ANYONE'S Military Service!!!

I have had a hard time listening to Mike Malloy the last couple days because he keeps saying that McCain is not a war hero because he flew missions and murdered people.

I could not disagree more, and I think it does make him look unpatriotic and makes him appear like a lunatic.

I agree with General Clark that any military service does not mean that that person is qualified to be
Commander in Chief, but he did not express himself well and thus it has been the statement that has
now cancelled the news

I have no wish to insult anyone's military service, but I am not in lock-step with the "Support the Troops" movement. My position is that a part of the discussion should be whether or not it is a moral thing for an individual to join the armed services when it is clear that this country has at least a a 60+ year history of the violation of the human rights of brown and yellow people around the world, including, but certainly not limited to Iran (soon), Iraq twice, Nicaragua, Viet Nam, Laos, Cambodia, and Korea. When I was eligible for the draft in the early 70's, I chose to refuse induction and risk going to prison over the alternative of going to southeast Asia to commit murder. I have an uncle who engaged in the same anonymous murder of southeast Asians as did John McCain, that is, to fly a high tech bomber and attack a people whose only crime was to let Communists control their government. That uncle is no hero just as John McCain is no hero for getting shot down and collaborating with the North Vietnamese and Viet Cong. I do not put him in the category of persons to be admired. Had he expressed disgust of the war in Viet Nam and suffered the slings and arrows of refusing to go, I'd vote for him in a New York minute.

Remember that old 70's hippie maxim, "What if they gave a war and nobody showed up?" To leave these ideas out of the discussion by shouting down those whose ideas seem not to "support our troops" is disingenuous at best. Freedom of speech demands that unpopular opinions be heard.

BUT, I'm not an idiot. I know you can't say that in public if you're Obama or Clark, and win an election in a nation whose personality is becoming more and more warlike, even when the approval rating of the current idiot president sits at 25%. I submit that if the occupation of Iraq were going a lot better, this election season would look very, very different, because the US loves a war when it's going well.

I hate to sound so absolute about it all, but these ideas are being buried under the weight of trying excise the guilt of the inhumanity of spitting on the draftees returning from southeast Asia in the 60's and 70's.

It IS okay not to support the troops.

No one's service qualifies them from being President. No one's lack of service does either. My service doesn't qualify me for sure.

Clark didn't diss McCain's service. He flat out praised it. His comment that is being looped endlessly out of context, were the words of Bob Schieffer. If we're going to start apologizing for the truth, we need to just close up shop.
BenDowndaRoad
the comment was right on the money. that is, the military has a code (as tried to explain to
you by a caller) but you blurted how about osama obama -WHATEVER

the point is that the military is there to do the "dirty" work of politicians.

there are specific occupations that the military grooms. (IMO) what wesley said
about the idiot candidate that's running for prez is RIGHT ON! this guy was not
groomed to be a leader.

as far as you leading us on with your "fears" of the bush administration doing
torture... come on! get a life! OF COURSE there are peeps out there who are
gullible enough to fight wars in a belief system (take the GREAT CRUSADES, in
that peeps would KILL for the invisable man in the sky!) lol

another comment about the grooming of the US military. Tim Macvey. (SP)
no remorse of what he did... he was groomed. however....he made a point.

here's to the dogs of the whirled! lol

Randi,
I heard your show yesterday and was quite disappointed in your response to General Clark's comments on Sunday's Face the Nation program. I listened to the entire segment and heard the General's full statement.
I don't know where the heck you came up with the term " Swift Boating" as applied to his statements, which i felt were fair, and, quite honestly, on point.
Clark spent the first part of his comments on praising McCain for his service to the country bla, bla , bla. He then made his point at least two times in explaining what he ment. His main thrust was that being a line service man or woman does not qualify you for the type of big picture decisions one must make in the office of President. He made the points twice and he made them clearly.Your portrayal of him as swift boating McCain was just plain wrong. You owe Clark an apology.
As far as McCain and his service to the Country, I quite honestly , am getting tired of it. I remember that Saturday Night Live did a spoof on him several years ago when he was running in the primaries , because they too, were tiring of the constant reference to his service. Enough !
By the way, we use the term " hero" way to losely these days.

Wesley Clark was right. Getting shot down was unfortunate, but not a qualification to be president. Being a prisoner of war should give him insight into some of the horrors of war, as would be serving on the front lines watching your buddies become injured or killed. But that's not a qualification to serve, and doesn't do anything to show judgment. Being a POW is not my definition of being a hero either. Again, it's unfortunate, but "survivor" may be a more accurate depiction.

It IS fair game for anyone to bring up, as McCain wears his service record like a flag pin. He cheapens it by the way he brandishes it. The way he pushes the message out also seems calculated to imply that Obama somehow wasn't somehow as good a person for not serving, though he was what, seven years old at the time of war? So more power to Clark for calling him out on it.

Regarding General Westley Clark's comments on McCain:

I think it is important to see what American Vets have to say:

Here is the word from VetVoice:

"The bottom line is this: If Democrats tuck tail and run from Republicans in this instance, we run the risk of ceding authority on military issues to John McCain for the rest of the campaign. Whether you like Clark or not, everyone has an interest in defending him vigorously in this case. We cannot allow the Right and the media to get away with trashing the first guy to come out in prime time to slam McCain's military "expertise." If our organizations don't defend Clark as being right in this case, we give in to the idea that Republicans are the parents in terms of national defense, and Democrats are the children--something those on the Right will be more than happy to reinforce."
