Only in America can an obese douche-bag get paid a King's ransom to sit on his fat ass and tell lies for fun & profit. CLEAR CHANNEL and PREMIERE RADIO just signed Limbaugh to a $400 million radio contract that keeps him on the air through 2016. It is the most astounding contract in the history of terrestrial radio broadcasting. However, Limbaugh will have to make a hell of a lot more money to match the world record setting deal Howard Stern signed with Sirius Satellite Radio in 2006. Stern earns a mind-boggling $850 million in salary & bonus money in just 5 years.
BTW, if a fat tub of lard like Limbaugh is making that kind of money, justice demands that a real broadcaster like Randi should get an immediate and massive pay increase from NovaM.

The Progressive blogs say that the American public's desire for conservative hate radio is on the decline. I've heard that Limbaugh, Hannity, Savage and O'Reilly are losing listeners and market share at a rapid pace. If the lucrative new Limbaugh is any indication, then the forecasts were dead wrong. Right wing hate radio is not declining; it is booming.

I despise the politics of Rush Limbaugh. It's annoying that he makes such an obscene amount of money but his income is justified because he generates more ad money for the radio stations of this country than anyone else in broadcasting. Let's be honest...he is the Tiger Woods of terrestrial talk radio. More importantly, he gets paid with money from the private sector. As long as my tax dollars don't pay his salary let him make all the money he wants.

I'm not sure about this but I was thinking that Rush and gang get alot more listeners because the corporations control the big airwaves. I heard a caller to Randi say in Virginia he could pickup Rush on like 3 AM stations at once. I always thought if Randi could get her word out like that it would be such a huge boon to the American public to get the fact side of the story that she is pretty damn good at. It is unbelieveable to me the following that Rush gets...mind boggeling

Limbaugh provides an important service to those who like their news and worldview pre-digested for them. Just tell me the answer. Simply. In black and white. And I better feel good about myself when I hear it, so pump me up and shred the other idiots in the world. Be certain of the answer, so I don't have to doubt you. This probably serves approaching 50% of the listening public pretty well. So big market, even though it's getting scaled back some.
Randi provides a different service. Truth, shooting holes in dumb lies, trying to wake people up. She tries to make it simple and black and white, but it's never as simple as RW hate. Listening to her doesn't always make listeners feel great, but it does give them a little hope. In any case, Randi's total available market is much smaller.

In talk radio, its all about attracting, maintaining and delivering a demographic audience to advertisers in order to maximize advertising revenue for a network of radio and television stations. When looked at from that perspective, there really isn't any comparison.

You might not like that Limbaugh is the number 1 rated talk show host in America in terms of listenership, but it is a fact of life. Since he is currently the king of the hill, he can command a hefty salary. Like it or not, that's what the free market is all about.

It has been statistically proven that most humans are of average intelligence or lower. So Rush has a large target market. A minority of humans are of above average intelligence, which is an IQ of 101 or higher. I have an IQ of 120, which is not that smart, but it enables me to see that adult life is much more complicated that when I was in high school. I know that I can not trust anyone, starting with my supervisors at work. I also know that the the more money (which = power) a person has, the less he or she can be trusted. Thanks to the internet, I can check what I hear on the radio, television, or any where else. To be truely informed requires work and reading. When I was a child, my high school graduate dad subscribed to two newspapers, and read both of them every night after dinner. He watched the nightly news too. Hey, that was the 60's and 70's. Before cable TV that tells us nothing! Now you have to search for information, but you need to be able to differentiate between fact and opinion. Randi tells you were to go for the facts. This is not a contest..this is our lives.

It's downright irritating. It seems like he has a real hate-on for women who are in full control of their lives as well. Very interesting.
I live in Charlotte North Carolina and the only talk radio we have on the airwaves (as far as I know) is NewsTalk Charlotte which is ALL conservative. I have to stream progressive radio in one of the fastest growing cities in the nation. Amazing.

OK, it's a little hard to lay out, so I'll give the abbreviated form.
Consider the bell curve of the population of the US, along the dimension of how inclined individuals are (at one extreme) to seek comfort above all else vs (at the other extreme) to seek understanding / growth at all costs. Imagine that -5 was comfort at any cost (including denial of reality), 0 was more or less neutral / balanced, and +5 was understanding at any cost (including denial of intellectual / emotional comfort). Each person has some orientation towards comfort vs growth, so plot the distribution of that over that scale. Narrow it to political understanding if you like. For example, Barbara Bush might be a -4 or -5 because of her saying that she didn't want to think about Iraq deaths because it might upset her beautiful mind.
So I imagine that that distribution curve resembles a bell curve, except that it is skewed toward the comfort end, with perhaps 60% or even 70% to the left of 0, and the remainder to the right of 0. Oversimplifying, I think Limbaugh's target market / audience is to the left of 0, and Randi's is to the right. It's harder to be a liberal, intellectually and emotionally, than a conservative, and I believe that manifests in market size.

Just the opposite, I'd guess. Thinking that fundamentally goes against the grain for lefties. And the last group that called themselves by that name weren't lefties. It was probably because the bell curve was skewed, then as now, that the lefties found themselves persecuted rather than dominating.
