funny, but I and someone I know in the media think it is exactly the opposite...that 30 yrs ago (post watergate) there was more investigative reporting going on than there is now, and your point (though I see you are trying to be hopeful here so dont wanna completely piss all over it) that they keep an eye on politicians was completely nonexistent in the build up to the war...
for instance, just one example, msnbc fired phil donahue who had excellent ratings because he was anti war and ge didnt want to be seen as anti war...many more examples of how the media let us down, they now admit it...

Complicated - Politics is complicated - your , OUR ideals are simplifying it down to where it cannot be, right now..
Politics is like Baseball - the game seems very simple, yet ask a real fan and he'll tell ya how deep & complicated it is, in FACT.
