I can't believe any reasonable person believes anything he says.

Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) on Thursday backed off his firm promise to withdraw combat forces from Iraq immediately and instead said he could “refine” his plan after his trip to Baghdad later this month.

Earlier, a top Obama adviser had said that the senator is not “wedded” to a specific timeline.

Obama told reporters in Fargo, N.D., that he is “going to do a thorough assessment."

"When I go to Iraq and I have a chance to talk to some of the commanders on the ground, I'm sure I'll have more information and will continue to refine my policies," he said, according to CBS News. “I have been consistent, throughout this process, that I believe the war in Iraq was a mistake.”

Obama later said at a second news conference he still intends to stick to the timeline.

The original Obama plan, still on his website, promises: “Obama will immediately begin to remove our troops from Iraq. He will remove one to two combat brigades each month and have all of our combat brigades out of Iraq within 16 months.”

Other than Kucinich, I didn't expect an immediate withdrawal form anyone.
I hope he signs onto the Burner plan.

So he hasn't updated his website since March?

The original Obama plan, still on his website, promises: “Obama will immediately begin to remove our troops from Iraq. He will remove one to two combat brigades each month and have all of our combat brigades out of Iraq within 16 months.”

Yeah?

I didn't notice anything in the article contradicting that.

The position is the same; it's the Obama is "changing his positions" narrative that the MSM, and some right wing bloggers are trying to shove down our throats chair.gif

Ok, so let's get this out of our systems. The next President is NOT going to do any of the following:

1. Abandon and turn over all of our 15 major military bases in Iraq. Many of these bases are larger than most CONUS bases.
2. Remove all U.S. combat troops in under 4 years.
3. Allow Iran to continue uranium enrichment programs
4. Initiate going after the Bush crime family for it's many outrages.
5. Make the oil companies give back any of their ill gotten gains.
6. Do anything that will bring immediate relief at the gas pumps
7. Scrap NAFTA
8. Give back any of the extra-constitutional powers that Bush, et al, stole from us and gave to the President

So, we might as well get used to feeling a little let down. However, I think there is a universe of differences between what an Obama presidency and a McCain presidency would mean to our future. The real heavy lifting is going to come when we have Obama in office and more Dems in office. We will need to keep working hard to make sure that we get as much out of his presidency as possible. I think it's going to be ok though. In fact, I think Obama is going to really be great for our country in the long run.

There it is there.

Why is it that everybody seems to think that those of us who are voting for Obama are under the impression that he's anything other than a career politician?
He's not a Bush, he's not a Clinton, he's not a Republican. At this point, that's all I need.

I support Obama because Dennis Kucinich and John Edwards didn't win the primary. That's the only reason.

Every topic by middleoftheroad = blah blah blah I hate Obama.

Maybe if you left out your utter hatred for him, people might take half of what you say seriously. As it is, you're nothing but another Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannitary Napkin, saying nasty little comments just to make yourself feel better or justified in your hatred of him.

Obama being elected is a good tool to pave the way to better things though.

I have been watching the political scene for more than 20 years. I remember when the AFL-CIO backed Raygun, I knew they were nuts and I couldn't even vote back then. I got great grades in history class and saw how the unions were formed, and what they stood for.

I have been a union member for over 20 years, and yes I do have horror stories. I totally believe in the union ethic, I just don't trust some of the people who run it. I see some of them get their positions through the "Peter Principle", it makes me ill.

I hate politics and I am very well known for overturning the apple cart when pissed off. The last time I got pissed off I walked across the union hall with the Business Manager heading me off, assuring me that what I wanted would happen.

Everyone there knows that I have never done things for myself, it was for the whole. I hurt my career doing this at times, which gives me a credibility that few have.

Obama is an apple cart grabbin type. It is still going to take faith to give him the chance. I see the media distorting his statements, and giving McSame a wide berth.

Just look at the past few weeks events.... McSame is in Columbia setting up his latest money making deals..... Obama was filling sandbags for disaster relief. Edwards did the same thing during the past disasters, he brought food and supplies to people living under the bridges, but where is the media?

The debates are coming up popcorn.gif slap2.gif popcorn.gif they should be very enlightening.
