Report:
Grand jury indicts PA Majority Leader DeWeese and others

Gov. Ed Rendell investigated for alleged corrupt practices
Prosecutors grill Rendell's state police driver

by Bill Keisling

Posted July 2, 2008 -- A grand jury in Pennsylvania has reportedly indicted state Rep. Bill DeWeese, the Majority Leader of the Pennsylvania General Assembly.

DeWeese is the highest-ranking Democrat in the Pennsylvania legislature.

Also indicted are DeWeese's former lieutenant and majority whip, Mike Veon, and several others.

Majority Leader DeWeese's reported indictment, on the surface, involves the awarding of bonuses to legislative staffers who allegedly performed political work.

But what began as an investigation into legislative bonuses has blossomed into a wide-ranging grand jury inquiry into corrupt practices throughout Pennsylvania state government.

Gov. Ed Rendell and staff members are also under investigation.

At least for one of them.

The Justice Department is involved into this. How can we be sure this is legit?

How many more Democrats are the Republicans going to try to jail or smear before the next election? Any bets?

My guess would be: as many crooked ones as they can get evidence on.

Crooks and Democrats are not mutually exclusive groups, no matter how much you WISH it were so.

It's a Simpsons reference. I didn't think it would make people go spastic or anything.

Now that I see otherwise, I'm even more glad I used it.

no spaz here, although you may wanna reconsider your future motives for using it...it is against the rules here and on just about every message board I am aware of to purposely say things meant solely to sow discord...

Well Gawd forbid anyone to check the facts on their own right ? I "googled' DeWeese and found nothing except Pa. Legislator is in overtime on a budget, there is a push on to comply with chemical weapons storage and destruction in Pennsylvania and oh this one, but I can't read it for anyone but myself or someone like who is blind, that asks me to read it for them:

In reality, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is conducting a grand jury investigation. As in the case of Federal Grand Jury investigations, little or no information is released to the public to protect the innocent. That is to say, in America, everyone is presumed innocent until proven otherwise in a court of law. To name names prior to official releases by the Common Wealth of Pennsylvania is swiftboating to me. That's because actually getting indicted through a grand jury is usually a career ender for a politician if that politician does not fight long and hard for their own innocence. Politicians are usually viewed "dirty" by the public as soon as an official indictment is released. In today's climate of wholesale corruption and conflict of interest through Washington, D.C. an indictment is a real liability to any politician being an effective Legislator or not.

Well that's a new twist.

If Republicans are under investigation, they are already guilty by association. If Democrats are under investigation it must be a Republican smear job.

Very interesting....

Isn't that what Starbuck was getting at?

But alas, you are right. I'm supposed to be curbing my old habit of over-generalization. spank.gif

My immediate thought as well, Starbuck! I have to tell you that warrantless wiretaps come to mind as well as the tainted Justice Department, laced with Bush cronies and zombies. This morning, I heard that none other than Mrs. John Conyers is being accused of accepting a bribe in Michigan. I heard this one little blip on NBC this morning. I haven't heard any more, but oh...the timing of this with Rove refusing to testify on July 10th stinks to high heaven...

I had no real "motive" for using it. It was a reference.
