Full Version: I am backwards again: I fell madly, deeply in love
Randi Rhodes Message Board > Main Forums > Focused Interests > Election 2008
egghead
I liked Hillary for about 2 seconds (egghead time) then she dove into the kitchen and wouldn't come out. Now we have McCain saying he's ready on DAY ONE.

Never much agreed with Bill Clinton's falling in line, falling in love rules, but now I understand it a little bit more.

I have fallen in love with Barack Obama's ability to articulate his message. (He sometimes reminds me of one of my teachers who used to say, if you know your history, you'll realize, little girl, that "THIS TO HAS BEEN DONE BEFORE.) I can in fact settle in with his book
(Audacity . . .) soooooo comfortably and marvel at how it is so well written and how the meaning of those words resonate in my heart.

Did I fall in love because of such a stark contrast between he and Bush/McCain. So obvious. And the media does not emphasize this enough.

But the PEOPLE notice there's something different (NOT strange different btw - that's the propaganda) about Obama and that's why they are fascinated. That's why Obama has outraised his opponents 3 to 1 in small increments.

Also, Obama wants US to participate in our Democracy - not just lay back and contribute money to his campaign, wait for him to do what we want him to do and hope the world will magically be HAPPY again. He needs help and he WANTS us to lobby him. And, he wants us to lobby our friends and neighbors.

I want to hear MORE about the love for Obama's message, but it is being drown out by the buzz words: cult, moving to the center flip-flopper, strange exotic, unknown entity, etc.

In other words, when people say I am a member of a cult and am mesmerized/hypnotized, it shuts down my speech.

Barack Obama sez:

QUOTE
When people at dinner parties ask me how I can possibly operate in the current political environment,

with all the negative campaigning and personal attacks, I may mention Nelson Mandela, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn,

or some guy in a Chinese or Egyptian prison somewhere. In truth, being called names is not such a bad deal. Still

I am not immune to distress. And like most Americans, I find it hard to shake the feeling these days that our

democracy has gone seriously awry.

Eggy, you're not allow!
My wife backed Hillary before Obama clinched, and is now firmly in Obama's corner.
She is amazed at Obama's message, his ability to make us feel emotionally connected to that message. She is also baffled that what Barack was saying slipped by her unnoticed during the primary season.

The words that come to my mind are...knowledgeable, intellectually competent, authentic, sincere, focused, dedicated...
His language is coherent because it flows from original thought, not from an attempt to piece together talking points or to recite rehearsed propaganda. He talks, as opposed to reads, to his audience. He demonstrates a willingness to learn, and doesn't hesitate to self correct.
I think the guy is the real deal.

And who do we have to thank for that? Media? Viral email? Republicans? The incredibly lying 400million dollar Fat Ass (Rush Limbaugh)?

I agree totally (original thought: that's a novelty rolleyes.gif ).

He is self deprecating too. Oh, and curious.

I've noticed that he talks and thinks on his feet very well. He has been using the press conference frame/setting well in demonstrating this.

When putting anyone on a pedestal there is always the risk of dissapointment. But I can't tell you anything cause you are "in love". If I could tell you anything, I would say that your are infatuated but enjoy the feeling while it lasts.

I am past that stage, I have wiffed a few of Obama's farts. Yes everyone farts even if some chics call them fluffs or poofs they still smell like methane gas to me, flatuation not infatuation.

So yes Obama gives extremely high quality rhetoric, a Churchill, Kennedy or King, you make the call. Same standard applies for him as everyone else, he can talk the talk now can he walk the talk ? There is this leap of faith here because his past walks are limited. Here is what I see based on past incompetence. I am looking for an Allstar Cabinet based on realworld needs and not political neccessities, resulting in things like Poppy Bush Redux or Neocon flunkies to include people like Ashcroft who could not beat a deadman in an election.

What does that mean to Obama personally maybe ? The Number One Public Servant has to example Quality which means progress to perfection in effacy and effiency of the Federal Government itself. I am reminded of another heritage I carry right down to my father, the retired railroad bigshot that owns land, homes and condos in several states and countries. Ya gots to learn to work 7 days a week even on holidays and be as frugal with spending to not use Automatic Teller Machines because there is a fee. I mean this guy would drive two miles to the bank rather than use an ATM a block away refusing to pay that ATM service fee, that is a Railroader. I question his logic now as gasolene prices probably make it more cost effective to absorb that fee.

Railroader has bad connotations being that they did import cheap labor, practically stole timber from people and gobbled up alot of land for right of ways with assistance from Uncle Sam. The otherside of the expression like "getting railroaded out of town" can equate to "Get out of the way of Progress". I think it's a good thing Camp Obama is going to spend alot of time and money in the South. Here's a marketing trick, would you agree ?

But eggs, enjoy your falling in love all over again while it lasts. I think we still have the rights of life, liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness in this land. I think some twisted up people are trying to defend their actions by claiming to practice tough love. If I could afford their lifestyle, I would be resting on Maui right now.

I can't stand it either. I swear, I think the MSM just got their check from Chevron to boost the McStain on this earth.

Yes, hiding, hiding, why can't McCain be transparent like a normal human being, huh?

I don't think he and his heiress are every going to make it through the campaign (D-I-V-O-R-C-E as Loretta used to sing). McCain has changed too much since the old Maverick days when people used to have respect for him. And, yes, Cindy is an albatross around McCain's neck with all the secrecy. We don't want that again.

Oh, and Lindsey "kitchen cabinet" Graham could not keep up the debate today on FACE THE NATION with John Kerry, who was so very PREPARED!!! Surprised me. Way to go John!! You two even scared the Schieffer-man. (guess Bob is still recovering from last week's controversey) biggrin.gif

Schieffer tells John, but you guys used to be such buddies. (paraphrase)
Kerry: John McCain has changed PROFOUNDLY. Not a maverick. And McCain has been wrong about Iraq, and he has a plan, yeah, Bob - 100 years!!!

Anyway, Bob (Face The (owned) Nation) was brought to us by Chevron, and he did begin the show with Chevron's talking point: OBAMA is rEFINING!! OMG!! stop the f'n presses. What? Is he refining sugar? Because he called someone sweetie? I don't get it. tongue.gif rolleyes.gif

Okay. I'm in. When do we start?

I think I just started one. Look at post #15.

~~~~~~~~~~~
To Christine: When my little niece (26 yrs.old) who I love with all my heart (sometimes more than my daughter) said to me, that for the first time in her life she heard a politician say something that did not seem "planted" "staged" or "paid for" and that she was for the first time excited, that was IT for me. I knew then we have a new kind of politics. And that politics means its for the people, not the status quo anymore.
I know this is crazy, but I wish we could do a huge RRMB Meet-up at the stadium in Denver( or some other location ) during the convention! I think it would be fabulous, supportive, patriotic, and one hell of a party!!!! clap.gif groovy.gif grouphug.gif
I came a little late to the Obama campaign because early on I too was a Hillary supporter and at the time could not imagine supporting anyone else. In a way, that makes my support even stronger because I really took the time to find out what Senator Obama was all about. I have never regretted that decision.
Barack Obama sez:
I agree Eggie.
Yesterday, the RR show focused a whole hour on this contest Obama is running to select four persons to go to the convention and see his acceptance speech. Fine. It's not a big deal with me. Is it dumb. Probably. But, it says nothing about his character or leadership. But these are the details our media seems to want to obsess about right now. And at a time when McCain is arguing with vets in townhall meetings, little old ladies and flip flopping his way to the White House.
And this is starting to become an epidemic of not just the right but the left. No one is focusing on his ideas about issues that really matter NOW to American's -- like health care, gas, food prices, jobs, housing/credit crisis. It's this obsession that he must be the 100% perfect progressive president.
That where I come back to the fact that have to focus on McCain's weaknesses and psychosis and not this constant evaluation of Obama's purity as the perfect candidate. That's how we will loose the election.
Me too egghead. I loved him at the '04 convention, but just thought that he was too green for this cycle.
Then, I watched as all 3 of my kids (Jr., Soph, and Frosh in college) came home in January and begged me to reconsider.
So I read "Audacity for Hope", and then I watched some of his video speeches on youtube (including that "Yes We Can" video which was AWESOME) and I realized that in Barack, while I didn't agree with him on everything, we havr someone who id perhaps a "once in a lifetime leader" and very special... and since then, he's done nothing to dampen my enthusiasm. And every time he stands his ground and says what he means/means what he says, my respect for him only grows.
Of course, I actually educated/innoculated myself on his positions and philosophies before "falling in love" (does this make me gay?).
Nothing will make me happier than when we celebrate his landslide victory in November (350+ electoral votes).
I examined the issues pretty closely during the primary. There were a few things I objected to on substance and style at first, because he took me by surprise - he and that Oprah woman. LOL!!! I can only say I was overwhelmed and skeptical. I had not paid that much attention to him while he was in the Senate, because I thought he had lost his way, as had most before him. But I still had in the back of my mind, his 2004 speech that everyone remembers.
Then there's Hillary:
BEFORE the primaries because of Hillary's war votes, I was pretty much turned off by her weather-vane type political decisions.
But when the primaries started, I got it in my head, I had to defend Hillary, because it appeared everyone was beating up on her for no reason. I hated that, and it was personal to me.
Then I started learning about her corporate loyalties. Still in denial. Then, when she started playing with the Rovian playbook, that was my final straw. She appeared ruthless in siding with McCain, and it was just unbelievable that another Democrat would play Republican games. It was all a very rude awakening for me.
After that I actually started listening to Obama's speeches; especially the Race Speech, which was so precise, but also humble, in that he knows he is not perfect, and/or we are not perfect.
But it seems he is clear on one thing: that he has figured out a way out of all this, and has put a lot of thought into that proposition and very dearly wants to lead -- but with our help.
That's refreshing and new that he wants us to hear from and wants us to lobby him. Obama really represents a new kind of politics, and he wants to show us how to do that, if we'll just listen and get up and participate in the process. He knows his history; he knows his country; he knows the Constitution; and he even knows his Bible. What a combination.
So, apparently a lot of people are listening to him now, and I am too. I, like you have some differences with him, but I think those differences recede into the background when you stand in the light of his judgment and character.
It could never had been a better plan. Big scary stuff with the towers, And Cheyney oh god that thing with the energy plan. Perfect he learnt so much from his days with Nixon. They fixed it. They fixed it We all know that and just like for all the reasons they found OJ not guilty was a wrong made to the people. The people had to change it. At some point if you do wrong then the people will take you down.
Absolutely we will take you down. Beware Nancy Peloci
We are black and white and we are hispanic, you people tried to make us feel we are not the same
but we all love we are all the same. We are all the same we are all America. We love there is no difference between race, we all die out here we are all the same
