Full Version: I'll be surprised if O'Bama were to pick Biden or Bayh

I'd love to see him pick Biden, but I don't see it happening. Of the 3 presumptive frontrunners, we have:

Evan Bayh
100% NARAL rating
http://www.prochoiceamerica.org/choice-act...ce/indiana.html
Although he's been in the Senate a decade he really doesn't have a record on which he can present as leadership. He's overboarded trying to be centrist in his views that his appeal to either end is diminished. He has little baggage other than his ties to DLC, which could turn off more moderate dem voters. I don't see O'Bama picking someone more liberal than himself. I can however see Bayh's, "We've got to be somewhere between 'cut and run'...and mindlessly staying the course" statement coming back to bite him being given as a example of his straddeling issues. He and O'Bama would be portrayed as the flip-flopper and the no-thinker pro-abort. He brings little to the ticket.

Joe Biden
Pro choice score 60%
He's said that civil unions are OK and that gay marriage is probably inevitable, He voted against the 2006 "marriage protection" amendment. Why, he even GASP wants to let gays serve openly in the military and extend federal rights and benefits to same-sex couples.
He's for universal health coverage. It would be portrayed as "the liberalest candidate for president ever grabbing the most liberal partner he could find". O'Bama wants to keep those people who were cheering him in churches... A bigger problem with Biden is that he would compete with O'Bama in the charisma department and I'm not sure O'Bama's ego will let him go there. I doubt they'd get along, anyway. Neo-cons also hate that he wants to put an end to no-bid contracts. Sorry, Joe, love you more, hope I'm wrong!

Tim Kaine has stated he has a faith-based opposition to abortion and is opposed to same sex marriage. If you do't think those 2 issues make a significant difference in close races then you haven't been paying attention. He's very open about his faith. He's as close as a Republican carrot that O'Bama can dangle in a Democrat. He gives dem moderates and fence-leaners a more balanced ticket. He might tip the Virginia vote, AND O'Bama likes him, they've been close for a while. Oh, and he speaks fluent Spanish... might help with the Hispanic vote. Of the 3 he makes sense for O'Bama.

... but I'm hoping that if it's not Biden (the right choice of the three), he drops the bomb that it's none of the three and we're pleasantly shocked.
(picturing he and Michelle doing fist bumps on camera grinning ear-to-ear at punking us all, lol).

We need an intentionally funny president again smile.gif

Since he is dropping like a rock in the polls, he may have to bite the bullet and pick Clinton. I read somewhere that she polls as the best running mate.

That would be one of the "pleasant shocks" I was referring to... biggrin.gif

Keep in mind that phone polls don't include those who are "cell-phone only". That's a relatively new big unknown demographic out there.... Who knows what the real numbers are.

He has a 3% lead over McCain. That's dropping in the polls "like a rock"? Polls mean nothing anyway. But just to rub it in a little...

DailyKos Poll Data

"For CBS/NY Times, it's 45 (45) Obama, 42 (39) McCain, also a tightening. The enthusiasm gap is 48-24 (guess who), and 28% of McCain's supporters are either 'he's the GOP nominee' or anti-Obama. And like the NBC/WSJ poll, more people perceive McCain as negative on Obama than positive on McCain."

Can you say, "President Obama"? P-R-E-S-I-D-E-N-T O-B-A-M-A!

Hope you don't have pets, MOR. It appears you'd regard shedding as a sign of imminent painful death and put them down.

Hey, of course a shift of the same number of points in the opposite direction will convince you McCain may as well immediately concede. Glad to have your definition now of "dropping like a rock," and so if you have the testicular fortitude to stick around, there will be plenty to remind you of this hilarious perspective later.

Hey, Dan (and everyone else), don't feed the...poster. Really, this has gone well beyond ridiculous, and folks stating the obvious in response seems to encourage an exponential increase in the number of silly assertions from the world of mor.

This is clearly one of those guys who taunted the "smart" kids in school for taking tests, doing homework and answering questions as if they thought they were better then him, though they'd never heard of him before he started handing out snuggies.

Veep Sheet: Obama meets Kaine’s staff
By ALEXANDER BURNS & MIKE ALLEN | 8/21/08 11:18 AM EST Text Size:

Kaine was noncommittal when asked whether Obama had sought him for the VP spot.

Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) met privately for 15 minutes Thursday morning at the Omni Richmond hotel with the staff of one of his top two or three prospects for running mate, Gov. Tim Kaine.

Margaret Talev of McClatchy Newspapers, the pool reporter from the Obama press corps, reports that she asked the governor whether Obama has asked him to be his running mate.

Awkward!

Kaine replied: "I'm going to let the campaign speak for the campaign." Talev reports that he also declined to comment when she asked if he would rule it out.

Talev asked him what he and Obama talked about for an hour. Kaine answered: "He visited with my staff just to basically say hi to them and thank them for all their hard work."

Obama also took a photo with Kaine's staff. A thank-you, or a getting-to-know you?

Obama isn’t expected to make his announcement today. But Friday or early Saturday, the eagerly awaited text messages and e-mails will go to supporters ahead of the ticket’s dramatic appearance at the Old State Capitol in Springfield, Ill. on Saturday.

THIS DOESN'T LOOK GOOD TO ME....OF COURSE, ONE NEVER KNOWS....

That is a good analogy Bushwa!
