Obama rips Fox News
By KENNETH P. VOGEL | 8/20/08 7:51 PM EST Text Size:

LYNCHBURG, Va. — Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) personally went on the attack Wednesday on a best-selling new book that falsely describes him as a closet Muslim.

Talking about "The Obama Nation," Obama said author Jerome Corsi was just making "stuff up."

“But it gets a lot of play on Fox News,” he said to loud boos.

The news network has interviewed Corsi.

Obama said GOP attackers “will run negative ad after negative ad, attack after attack, with the goal of making you lose focus on the issues. … and focus on me and try to make me out to be a risky, scary guy.”

“Now I must say: I don’t find myself particularly scary or particularly risky," he said.

THAT'S IT??!! JUST, 'I DON'T FIND MYSELF PARTICULARLY SCARY OR PARTICULARY RISKY'??!! WTF! OBAMA, YOU HAVE TO PROVE TO THE WORLD THAT EVERYTHING IN HIS BOOK IF FALSE! I DON'T CARE IF YOU HAVE TO TAKE HIM TO COURT FOR LIBEL! AS A MATTER OF FACT, I THINK YOU SHOULD!

Second point...depending on who he picks for VP, I fear that McCain will take Lieberman.....that will tie up the Jewish, elderly vote for good....Obama needs those votes, but I don't think he'll get them.

Third point....Hillary supporters have not been satisfied....even if half of the 18 million votes go to McCain, (or no vote at all) I fear it's enough to stop Obama in his tracks.....

Fourth point....Fux news is doing a great job discrediting everything Obama says and does...they are expert at lies, lies and more lies, but I think STILL many Americans just don't think! They have not learned from the past 8 years!!

WHAT SAY ALL OF YOU? PLEASE, I AM FEELING VERY SCARED TODAY.....

Randi has, as usual, nailed this one: Obama comes out of the convention with guns blazing. randi.gif

As for me, I believe this election marks a generational shift that cannot be held back --- not even the scumsucking worm Corsi or The Clintons.

The smart people are takin' it back. We will prevail because our RAGE is far more powerful than their FEAR.

i think you are setting yourself up for heartbreak. the debates will not be so one sided. mccain is smarter than we give him credit for. along with the fact he has very well informed people schooling him prior, just as obama will.

I have fears, too, but this thing has a long way to go. Remember, neither candidate, despite what the Repugs would like to think, have put it in high gear yet. (Well, maybe McSame has, but Obama hasn't.) And McSame hasn't really said anything. That will come out soon enough. The Repugs are basing their campaign on racism and ignorance. That can only take them so far. There are a lot of people in this country who won't put up with that. I think a lot of people are sitting back. When Obama puts the pedal to the medal (sorry for the '70s cliche), he'll get a lot of attention.
AjaxMinoan
Don't be surprised if a few of Obama's low profile opposers start slipping and mispronouncing his first name 'Osama.'

I can actually dig a black guy finally making a real bid for the white house when he's as cool and non-racial as Obama is, but I wonder if his colour and name combined are too much for the man himself to overcome. Sometimes I think Democrats are too idealistic instead of realistic.

the campaign, election season, takes on an entirely new hue, if you will, once the conventions are both over...

it is real simple, either obama and biden (personally I wish it would be hillary) come out guns blazing and they easily squelch the disenfranchisement attempts and win big big big, or they dont...

I hope so, because we got swift boated for 2 elections now, and we're losing because of provable LIES.

Why isn't Obama doing publicity stunts for Corsi's other books and statements, like How he calls HRC a lesbian and that McCain is funded by Terrorists?

Not at all likely because he will loose much of his base if for no other reason than that they will see him as turning his back on them. As much as my mom hates Dems, she would stay home rather than vote (even just for VP) for someone who she considers a Dem.

You are giving WAY too big a number here. I do not know a SINGLE Hillary supporter IRL that would stay home in protest. In fact, I don't know a single one who isn't fired up about the campaign and trying to help. I think you are looking at a TINY percentage of Hillary supporters who are just being blowhards to try to see if they can rattle enough cages to get their way.

Timing is everything. Obama is a long distance runner and he is waiting for the final lap to kick into his stride. Right now we are in the dead time before the Conventions. Half the nation is on vacation. Obama was on vacation. Your mind is on vacation. McCain is making his last pitiful attempt to dislodge Obama before the final lap when Obama will leave him in the dust, lap him, while McCain stumbles and falls on his face. McCain, whose only claim to fame is sitting in the Hanoi Hilton for five years eating mishu pork and dim sum with peanut sauce, is dead in the water. Polls are very misleading. Meanwhile, the Democratic pundits are formulating strategies for Obama right now that look dead on. James Carville, for instance, had some great pointers for Obama. http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/08/20/car...bama/index.html . He is telling Obama to get mad, get emotional. However, I would make some adjustments to this so as not to scare white America. Hillary should take the race issue to white blue collar workers before Obama gets angry. An angry black man is not what white America wants just yet.

I don't want to hear no stinking negativity, damn it. We are in this to win, and nothing less. The real question is whether the Senate will pick up enough seats to give them the 60 seats they need to pass legislation. That's the big one. Get to work. volunteer. write letters , walk the streets and buy lunch for your friend on the fence and bend his ear about Obama instead of boning your girl friend every half hour and indulging yourself.

You're right about that....did you ever just wake up one morning feeling scared about things? Most of the time I'm optimistic about Obama...I guess between Fux news, that stupid Corsi, the MSM not hitting on McCain for so many many things, it just gets to me sometimes.....

Fux not news' shares are down. Olby said this. Last night on his very own show, which has not been cancelled yet by the great dictator, McCain. Also, dare I say, I have FAITH in Obama? OMG!! Will I now be called a worshipper of the messiah? No.
Belldoll
According to some of the guests I've seen on Hardball, Obama isn't running a negative enough campaign.

We know that McCain is the King of negativity, even though Cindy said "You won't see [negative stuff] come out of our side at all," and asserted, "My husband is absolutely opposed to any negative campaigning at all."

Just a thought:

Does Obama really don't want to run a negative campaign because he wants to set an example for his children?

just a thought.

I hear you. I get this "Obama can't win." stuff from my friend every time the polls show a jump for McCain. He says living in left wing enclaves insulates us from America which is deadly afraid of blacks. Well, bullshit, I say. Americans can overcome that. Give us some credit. Even Louisiana elected a dark skinned govenor. Louisiana!!! Hillary needs to step up and tour with Obama and Michele. Add a few country western stars to the mix, Willie Nelson and the Dixie Chicks.

Gaining a supermajority in the Senate is a priori.

Holding the majority in the House is a priori.

As for the third a priori, welll...

Methinks the primary was but a warm-up.

Nah, don't be scared of them.

They are frightened of US. That is what drives them.

As for Obama, he is in the same old catch-22 that Black men have always been in in this country: people complain about him being too accomodationist if he doesn't act like they want him to, in this case, "not fighting back hard enough".

OTOH, if he comes out guns blazing, then he's the eeee, scary Angry Black Man.

All this means is that his supporters -- especially the ones who actually know people who buy into these b.s. stereotypes -- are going to have to put in overtime and double time to fight it.

There is nothing to be afraid of. Conservatives, by nature, are perpetually-frightened people.

I don't know you're threads seem pretty extreme.

If you've been listening to Randi past 5 yrs or more you know fear is their main tool and you're playing right into it.

Maybe by not acting scared except when Bush or McCain are starting a war and giving the facts as Obama is doing you will impact your friends.

Sorry ... but you've got great reason to be scared. Never underestimate the ability of modern day Democrats to lose elections.

Obama has been listening to too many Wimo-o-crats in his own party that are scared of their own shadows, much less the great FOX right wing smear machine and the big, bad, bully Republicans. Can't throw any real TRUTH punches at McCain, that "wouldn't be prudent." Terminally cautious Dumb-o-crats cave, cave, caving to Bush just about every last chance they get will once again lose the presidential election if allowed to hold sway in the party.

Obama made a big mistake by moving so far to the center, lately. Now, he's losing support among all his key groups (even Democrats and young voters, according to the latest Zogby poll showing McCain now ahead by five points).

How's that "move to the center" idea been working for ya, guys? Not too well? Maybe you ought not do that again!

But that's not cautious and careful enough for the Scare-di-crats that head the party. The right wing might call us names. Can't have that. Oh, no. Not even if it costs us yet another election, and the whole country goes down the toilet.

Obama needs to find his inner FDR and Harry Truman.

You wouldn't catch THEM listening to Wimp-o-crats in the party ... neither should big O.

Obama doesn't have to give them hell. He just has to tell the WHOLE UGLY UNVARNISHED TRUTH ... and they'll think it's hell.
Ishmael
OK. Here's what you need to know from the guy who may have actually been in a position to start World War 3.

I do not want a guy with both rage issues and a poor grasp of geography in control of the nuclear Go codes. He's likely to start WW3 against the wrong country by bombing the Iraqi/Pakistani border. And then get pissed at anybody trying to correct him.

Obama could have wrapped up a November election victory back in June. He could have executed a masterstroke of political savvy and genius by nominating Hillary as his veep the day after she conceded defeat in the primaries. Obama could have instantaneously united, consolidated, galvanized and unified the party long before the convention. The infighting, backbiting, and intrigue between Hillary and Obama supporters could have been neutralized. Obama failed to seize the moment. The Democratic Convention is going to be a chaotic cluster-you know what. Hillary supporters will foment discord by demanding respect on the Convention floor.

Obama received spectacular positive media coverage of his trip to the Middle East and Europe. Mainstream media presented us breathtaking tableau of Obama making speeches before adoring masses. In contrast, McCain is shown at venues with crowds barely big enough to fill a phone booth. After all of that, Obama should have a double digit lead over McCain in the polls, but he doesn't. Both candidates are in a virtual dead heat. Obama's personal charisma was supposed to completely eclipse McCain in debates. The Saddleback forum demonstrated that McCain is quite formidable in an up-close and personal setting. This campaign is going to be much tougher than Obama supporters would have us believe. A complete embrace of Hillary as his running mate could well be the deciding factor if Obama is to fulfill his dream of being the 44th President of the United States.

Polls are manipulated; especially for ratings. Obama probably does have a double digit lead. Who's going to watch the news if they already know Obama is making a killing?

Saddleback wasn't head to head. I think we'll see what really happens at the debate, assuming McCain doesn't know the question to that ahead of time as well.

I'm guessing you're a Hillary supporter, no problem with that. I don't think Hillary is the best choice... She might be out of the top two. I would go with Biden. Especially the way the Iraqi govt is ethnically cleansing (arresting) all the Sunni's from the Anbar (and every other) Awakening. They're just going to end up split up (displaced) by ethnic associations. I still think a lot of people voting for Obama that aren't liberal would not support HRC on the ticket unfortunately.

Laura: War's over, man. Corsi dropped the big one.
Kane: Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!
Egghead: Germans?
Carmenjonze: Forget it, he's rolling.
Kane: And it ain't over now. 'Cause when the goin' gets tough...
[thinks hard]
Kane: the tough get goin'! Who's with me? Let's go!
[runs out, alone; then returns]
Kane: What the fuck happened to the RR Board I used to know? Where's the spirit? Where's the guts, huh? "Ooh, we're afraid to go with you Kane, we might get in trouble." Well just kiss my ass from now on! Not me! I'm not gonna take this. Corsi, he's a dead man! Rove, dead! McCain...
Carmenjonze: Dead! Kane's right. Psychotic, but absolutely right. We gotta take these bastards. Now we could do it with conventional weapons, but that could take years and cost millions of lives. No, I think we have to go all out. I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part.
Kane: And we're just the people to do it.
Laura: Let's do it.
Kane: LET'S DO IT!
