LOS ANGELES — Barack Obama is getting praise from Nashville, courtesy of one big, patriotic country star.

Toby Keith, perhaps best known to non-country audiences for his post-Sept. 11 song "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue," says he's a Democrat, and was impressed by the senator from Illinois.

Keith has said in the past that the 2002 song _ which included lines aimed at the Taliban like "we lit up your world like the Fourth of July" _ was more patriotic than pro-war.

Asked while promoting his new movie "Beer For My Horses" about the role of patriotism in the current presidential election, Keith replied: "There's a big part of America that really believes that there is a war on terrorism, and that we need to finish up.

"So I thought it was beautiful the other day when Obama went to Afghanistan and got educated about Afghanistan and Iraq. He came back and said some really nice things.

"So as far as leadership and patriotism goes, I think it's really important that those things have to take place. And I think he's the best Democratic candidate we've had since Bill Clinton. And that's coming from a Democrat."

thumbsup.gif thanks Toby

Another example that white America is ready for a black President.

This in NO way excuses what he did to the Dixie Chicks. Calling them "Saddam's Angels" for simply speaking their minds.

He's a jerk

Was he the one who recently wrote the song nostalgic for lynch mobs?

He's young and stupid, but maybe he's seeing the light. Take his vote.

Yes. He also wrote that putting a boot in people's asses is the American way. Because violence is all we know rolleyes.gif

Obama will take his vote but I will still think he's a dumb jerk.

I'll forgive him when he apologizes to the Dixie Chicks

I remember all of the bad things said about the Chicks, they did make a mistake, they made their statement on foreign soil. I agree with them, but they should have made that statement here. They came back and stood their ground and did not equivocate, so my hat is off to them. Toby was caught up in the war like much of America, I thank him for reevaluating the situation and showing some common sense. It is time to quit beating up everyone for mistakes made while being lied to. It is time for Americans to make their voices heard that we will not be silent while a dictator unlawfully runs the White House! Presidential order 51 and the Patriot Act are not part of the Constitution and are not the American way. DO NOT TREAD ON ME, OR ON MY BROTHERS AND MY SISTERS! GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH! sm.png

Why? Because over in Britain they weren't already thinking that very thing?

They had a right to say whatever they wished, where ever they wished. They accepted the brunt of what happened to them and came out stronger for it, but death threats for saying they were ashamed that Bush came from their home state? Sorry, that's way over the edge in my book.

As for Keith, I personally don't care what he does, as long as he keeps him mouth shut and stays out of my way.

Part of making a mistake is owning up to it. Which Toby refuses to do.

The Chicks made no mistake. They had a right to say what they said. I know if I went over seas I'd be apologizing for Bush too.

Yes and Toby helped to add a lot of fuel to the hatred against them that led to those death threats. And VERY FEW people in country music stuck up for them. Three mothers were having their lives threatened and hardly any country music artist cared

So we pretty much agree, I was just pointing out the only thing they could have been ridiculed for. Death threats, this they did not deserve. Anyone that did that does not understand democracy. In the end they were justified, Britain had their stuff together on this one.

So they stood their ground, risked their careers, risked life and liberty, what do we call people like this.... I believe we call them PATRIOTS!

I used to be a fan of his, but when he went after the Chicks, I said that's it, you're another moron who thinks Iraq was involved in 9/11, it's shame he has some talent, but he blew it with me.

Toby added alot of fuel. I will never forgive Toby. Apart from that I don't like his music. But maybe he is listening to his friend Willie. And if he can change, there is hope for all.

There's a sentiment I'm willing to consider.

Look, if this guy was a card carrying member of the ACLU this wouldn't be news. Nobody is asking you to forgive him for his past.

This guy speaks to members of the KKK and those who are still fighting the "War Between the States" and have pictures of Jefferson Davis on their living room walls.

Transformation comes in steps.
rrrocksmahsocks
It doesn't matter. I hate his music regardless

Toby Keith's song of the Red White and Blue, it came out when I was working at Vandenberg Air Base in California right off of Point Conception. So back then I knew what alert status we were under, it was plainly stated as you went though the front gate, with a marine loaded for war checking you out! The place is the twilight Zone of weather. It will go through the 4 seasons in 4 hours. As summer hit at 9 o'clock, the guys on the delta 4 rocket platform we were building, played that song and it echoed throughout the complex. It actually did make us proud as we built the next step for America to send satellites into polar orbit.

I agree. Kind of like rats leaving a sinking ship. Seems awful strange that this story about this asshat being a Democrat has just come out in the last year.
