I agree with Seigelman, that Rove needs to be held accountable or it will just embolden his underlings; I want to see justice done!
So do I. But past performance strongly suggests to me that it ain't gonna happen.
Unless the Democrats sweep the Congress, and unless the likes of Pelosi, Reid, Hoyer, et al, are purged. all we are going to see is more theatrical hearings that slowly fade to black. It is patently obvious that if Rove were not supremely confident that he is immune to anything the Congress can do to him he would not behave as contemptuously as he has.
Everything BushCo has done since Day One of the political coup that placed them in power has been carefully and strategically planned by individuals who are thoroughly experienced in the mechanics of government and Washington politics. What I have watched happen throughout the past 7-2/3 years is analogous to the most brilliantly played chess game I've ever seen. They have all but cleaned the board without losing a single pawn and it was done with the casual grace of Garry Kasparov vs a dollar-a-game novice in Washington Square Park.
What I'm seeing now is the same kind of futile enthusiasm that bubbled up in September of '06. The Democrats took the House and the Senate. And what has happened in the nineteen months that followed? The same thing we can expect to see happen in 2009, 2010, 2011, and on and on.
That is if we're lucky and BushCo doesn't plan on checkmating the nation by started another war, declaring martial law and suspending the inauguration -- which will leave us with a final alternative the American People don't have the will or the courage to embark on.
If Obama wins in November Bush will have almost three months in which to establish the Imperial Presidency that seems to be the ultimate objective of the kingmakers who installed him. The Corporatocracy.
