Hi
I am DianaB and I listen to Randi every day. She tells it like it is! Gotta love her.

Greetings to all and keep Informed!

I am The Observer. I feel like People need to challenge what they think. Truely try to see through others eyes. If not no worries, I'll just laugh.

Hello everyone......
You all sound so exicting. I have lived in beautiful Colorado for 6 years now. Love it! I have a 15 year old daughter that just finished 10th grade with straight A's and B's. Of course, the really amazing part is that she finally got her room clean! I married a sweetheart of a guy from Chicago, IL, four years ago,
yesterday. I have two other sons 31 and 24 yrs. My oldest son lives in Columbus, Ohio and makes the most wonderful jewerly by hand. My 24 yr old lives in my spare room, my former office...oh my, we love him.
In my spare time, I campaign for Dems. I've done phone banking for moveon.org, I host get-togethers for my neighbors. Do the election judge thing every election. I was a co-precinit captain for Barack Obama and became a delegate. So far, I have voted for Barack 4 times! Campaigning is great fun for me. I love being a part of this election. Obama's field organizers are some of the finest young people I have met anywhere. My last convention, in Colorado Springs I met Terry McCuliffe (got the pic) and made it on Fox News that nite!
Now I am focusing on my getting my congressman, Jared Polis and my senator, Mark Udall introduced to the people of my precinit. I'll invite Barack to my little get together.......you never know!!!!

Welcome, Maggie. Personally, I'll be looking forward to your take on MLK's closure, and MAYBE you'll join me in contempt for those ivory tower bastards, the County Supes?

But in any case, welcome! Now, will you look at this thing on my neck and tell me what it is?

After Martin Luther King closed that night it was the total tsunami. We were swamped we had no place to put all these people. They were coming in so sick and so fast...

Overflowing we opened up places we do not usually place patients into, we used our holding areas, we used outpatient surgery areas just to try to take care of them.

We scrambled for nurses at 5 am with no success. We called over 50 registries that night trying to get help, our people stayed over and they stayed over so many nights after that.

When the politicians of LA County closed Martin Luther King they put all of our hospitals in dire circumstances and more importantly they put all these people living in this region in real danger of not having any medical care

Our ER was swamped all our patients lined up on gurneys in the hallways, no place to put the sick. One medic who came back home said it was just like a mash unit. We called an internal triage that night no place, no place to put all these patients. We were bursting at the seams.

We shut down to all paramedic runs at midnight. Harbor UCLA closed at 0100 and thank God a hospital in Inglewood. St Francis weathered the storm...

We opened up ICU beds on the second floor just to take care of all the people . With no insurance Most of our patients have no insurance but still we treat them. We treat them all. How could we turn them away?

Just trying to pick up the pieces for all the mess the politicians left behind.

Our hospitals are just dying out here with all the politicians looking on.
If we do not come up with a better way then us might all die with nobody to help?
We are in crisis mode out here every night.

Me on the front line I have to hope there will somebody to help
I think Obama might do that.

Introducing myself . . .
Los Angeles born and raised, primarily in the passenger seat of my father's car listening to talk radio. Can recite every "Bickersons" and "Goon Show" episode ever aired on radio. Writer. Odd-jobber. Believer in Federalism, despite the long lost Goldwater. Pro civil liberties. Anti sermonizing, and all that implies. Youngish. Foxyish. Smarter than I look. Profoundly aware of US foreign and domestic history both in my lifetime (Reagan and on), and also prior as far back as the inception of the Panama Canal. Have lived everywhere I could drive, for the last half of my life. Preferred handles are ladyanjen or lbj (as in Lyndon Baines Johnson). Devoted to passionate dialogue and dialectic. Active volunteer. Utterly private about everything else. Very often heartened by all things Randi and all things on this board. Anxious to make some pundit-type virtu-friends. Or those who disagree. Deeply excited by Socratic interaction. Deeply against solipsistic arguments, both personal and political. Encouraged by those who are eloquent, elegant, courteous, insightful, and funny. Discouraged by those who appear short-sighted, dishonest, or noisesome.
Happy to be here. Happy to be hearing. Happy to be.

Hey, on a board this active there is little time to get around to surfing the 'community' threads like this one. Glad it came around on the "new posts" listing. I've been a Randi listener since I first discovered my AAR affiliate in North Idaho in early 2005. I have enjoyed political talk since the Clinto years, but found myself questioning more and more of what I was listening to and eventuall y evolved until I first heard Randi and was amazed to have that feeling of joy back in listening to someone I agreed with rather than sat in skeptical disbelief of.

I come to you from the more 'woo-woo' end of the societal spectrum. I've been a student of various elements of metaphysics for most of my life, and in fact spend most of my online time on boards I mod on and contribute to which are devoted to spiritual and paranormal subjects. A lot of what all that encompasses is developing a heightened awareness of the world and striving to see where it is going, and I don't think it is possible to come upon the topic of politics from such an angle without trending strongly toward the left eventually.

But I'm a realist for the most part. You cannot go into metaphysics and not get lost without striving to know what is real rather than fall into tempting illusions. And as much as I and those around me strive to know where the world is going it is invaluable to know as much as one can about the process by which it gets there and the players that make it happen. So politics is one of my more passionate interests, unlike so many of us 'woo-woos' who do not have the fortitude to expose themselves to so worldly an arena. I call politics my favorite sport, because there is no other competition in which the spectators have as much or more invested in the outcome as the major players, and if you are an earnest spectator you cheer for a good outcome for all involved rather than just a win for one team or the other.

You know the show? Oh, how amazing were they? Awesome! Yay! Don't forget those charming cigarette ads,either- "Ring the bell for Pall Mall." Kinda fitting as a metaphor at the moment, all of it. "Stanley? Stanley? Are you listening to me? Are you awake? Wake up so we can go back to sleep!"

Hail hail, well met, fellow traveller. It's a pleasure to meet you, ScottInCA. Looking forward to further conversation/communication.

I've heard a few of the radio shows, but I know The Bickersons mostly from several record albums that featured their various routines.

One of these days I'll need to figure out a way to transfer a bunch of different stuff I have on audio cassettes, vinyl records and even reel-to-reel tapes, onto mp3s, so I can hear 'em via iTunes!

"Oh goodbye, Blanche! This darn vacuum cleaner gets heavier every day!"

Will in Chicago here. I have listened to Randi since AAR started, and went through no Randi on the air in Chicago after AAR's first inital problems.

I try to be politically active when I can, and did some campaign work for Tammy Duckworth back in 2006.

Have been holding off for awhile but figured now is as good a time as any.

Many of you will know me as Peak-a-Boo. With the newly consituted RRMB, I had heard a rumor that some previously banned members might be allowed back. On a hunch I registered and immediately contacted Libertas to make my case. After keeping my fingers crossed, I got the word that I would be allowed to stay.

Since I was last a member, I have become more moderate on some of my positions, though I still consider myself a Republican. I have also toned down my rhetoric and my overall demeanor. I recognize that towards the end of my previous stay I was getting a little caried away and my abrasive posting finally caught up with me. I'm not the same person I was then, and I'm going to make sure I don't make the same mistake this time around.

I realize I was a controversial figure the first time around and there were many who didn't care to have me around. I'm hoping this time around you will give me another chance.

Finally, I want to thank the mods for allowing me to have this second chance. As I've stated in the past, I really enjoy the company of RRMB members and can't think of any other forum I would rather participate in.

I've read Will for a while, and he is good guy. I live in NW IL and used to hear WCPT, but they broke bad on Randi, so I have to interupt my day to stream Randi. Oh well!!!!

I'm flabberghasted.

I remember well the frustration I endured from your verbage, not to be confused with bushwas verbiage, but as you say you have toned it down a bit.

I can hardly wait til you and bushwa disagree. I'm not sure the bandwidth can take it though.

Hail hail, well met! I hadn't heard them before your link, but that's my next stop. Thanks for your openness and generosity of spirit! I judge writing, not people, and maybe that's my bad, but be that as it may, your writing, posting, and command of HTML et. al. is awfully welcome.
Only thing I saw in Berkeley (you attend/ed?) was a Spring Semester graduation of thousands. Sigh.
Finally, I will go to your writing/critique group and see if I can hop on that boardb (pun intended).

Thanks for the info and links and most of all, the reply. I will always respond in kind.

Nah, I moved from Ventura to Grass Valley in 1960 and then grew up in Benicia from 1964 on. I was a punk 14-year old kid during the People's Park riots and was teargassed there. I actually used to sell the local newspapers in the same saloon Jack London was coming from in his infamous suicide attempt down Carquinez Straits in Chapter 12 of John Barleycorn. He wrote a series of short stories on his days on the Bay as a game warden in "Tales of The Fish Patrol". You can read those stories here:

http://emotional-literacy-education.com/cl...e-b/totfp10.htm

This is the last place we lived in California, literally on The Dock Of The Bay in Vallejo.

I first saw my wife Janet three weeks before my fourteenth birthday on Feb. 17, 1968 crossing the Intersection of Telegraph and Durant going between shakespeare's and Cody's Bookstores, her mother's 51st birthday. I didn't meet her until 1989 and didn't realize who she was until after we had already moved in together. I wrote the story under the title, "Better Late Than Never" and you can see it on my myspace blog and buried on the group.

Finally decided to throw in my 2c here.

Nom-de-plume comes from a comic book character.

Born, raised, and live in Los Angeles. I get antsy if I'm more than 20 miles from the Pacific Ocean.

Desired job: comedian and comedy writer. Day job: engineer; I design and build shit. When you people use something and say "What a piece of shit," it's purely coincidental.

Aspirations: to re-design the human urogenital system, so the liquid waste disposal unit doesn't run through the middle of the entertainment complex.

And will someone please tell the Lakers that basketball requires movement and the ability to aim properly?

I know the work of Robin Williams quite, quite well. Nice shoutout there. smile.gif

Sorry to say it, but without a local football (as in FOOTBALL, not futbol) team, I ain't takin' an interest. Had season passes to Raiders and Rams games when I was but a child, went every Sunday w/ my folks. Happier times. Anyway, why the hell would the Lakers believe at this point that fundamental game skills are the key to athletic success with integrity? Which is not to say you are wrong; aiming is kinda sorta key, isn't it?

My Dear Friend,
It is truly rare that I meet anyone from Southern Cali, of any age, who knows the neighborhoods, lands, ways, means, towns . . . .and the history. Wow, sayeth I. And even more rare is true love, which it sounds like you found (or it found you) at such an early age- and then to know it was meant to be once you met again- now that's truly special. Congratulations!
I keep trying to explain to my fiance how lucky we are to be California natives and residents, respectively. I live a mere 1/4 mile from my beautiful Pacific Ocean, in a nice safe quiet place. So does he. He wants to move to Reseda. I say, if I can find this apartment in which I dwell for such an amazing price, so close to my family and my ocean, and reclaim my hometown, then he'll . . . just have to make his own choices, bad or not, regarding where he chooses to live.

In any event, although I am not the kind of girl to fret and wring and weep about love lost (cause there are, sadly, worse eventualities than that which might victimize one), I am happy to be back in a blue state (finally-again), my state, my town, and am here to stay. I care about what happens in this world and what we can do and what we choose to do and what we say we did do/should do/will do. So I travelled this land (your land, my land- I know the Guthries' contribution, too) via fuel efficient manual trans. car for, oh, 15 years and learned that guts and guile are useful tools, but only action conveys integrity.
Sounds like your (I am sure) beautiful wife and yourself actually get that, and moreover even actually read and consider the opinions of people who are youngish like myself without automatically assuming we're uninformed, disinterested, entitled idiots. I guess the end of the previous sentence reveals a little more about me and what I can't stand, can't abide.
It is all about action.
That glass of champagne looks absolutely delicious. A toast to you both (and all dear to you).

Hi Everybody,

Currently live in that wonderful liberal city George Bush the First named "Little Beirut" because everytime he came to town we had a riot just to let him know that while we are tolerant of a lot of things, fascism isn't one of them. We don't consider it an "alternative lifestyle" here.

I've been TV free for years and if you haven't tried it I highly recommend it. You'll be less stressed and be a better lover.

I'm a musician, a photographer, watercolor painter and an absolute monster in the kitchen.

I'm a jokester as well. I'm usually the butt of my own jokes.

Oh boy new member. I can't listen live at work so always a day late. I pod cast and listen at work the next day. I am a Federal Employee in a drone position, live in the state of Missouri, St. Louis County (no we are not going to flood where I am at, that's north of me).
I have been listening to Randi since her first broadcast on the network we shall not name. I think it's the ultimate that her and I share the same birthday and much else in our pasts. I could only hope to be as quick and smart as she is. Please be kind to me in my posts as I have an Apple machine and my degree is in Microsoft systems (MCSE), so I make some awesome mistakes in my formatting and I am the worst for spelling and run on sentences.

As one of fat boy's students, i spent much time folding wresting news papers instead of learning world history. It all seemed confusing to me at the time, but as i grew older and seen his ascent in the gop, i realized that the reason he didn't teach world history is because he didn't know world history.

I am very happy to be a avid listener of Randi (online, thanks Nova-M) who agrees with most everything she says. What I love most about Randi is that she backs up her stance with facts.

One last thing. Sometime i post when i have had a few too many to drink. Please ignore me at these times tongue.gif

I already did here: Hey folks......

I'm not very poltical, so you probably won't see much of me.

But I am getting angry about the economy so that may make my fingers fly across the keyboard more then normal at a place like this. Not that I'm doing bad, I'm not, but it's always better when things are looking up, or at least steady.

You're angry about the economy. Me? I'm angry, too...but I find my attention focused more on reform of the justice system. I'm for you and will read when you post. Maybe our joined anger will produce something on both fronts?

Hi folks. I'm Lila the great.

Once upon a time, when I was radding on my new XM rad io, I heard some awsome truths coming from my rad. Low and behold it was the RANDI. Ranting on my rad. It wad radi- cool! Now I'm stuck on Randi on the radio.

As for me, I was in the Army, and now I work for the state.

I like to write songs in my spare time, and post on the RRMB. I'm also a squatter and lurker on a few other boards.

YOu can check out some of my tunes on www.myspace.com/lilathegreatofficialsite
Go check it out and leave a comment. Lovit or leave it!
I also try to talk with as many who will listen about the "War on Drugs", and how wrong it is.
We need to change the laws and stop prohibition.
Prohibition didn't work with alcohol and it is not working now.

Prison is the new slavery and the drug war is putting people in jail with mandatory 20 year sentences where a child molester will get only 5 years.

READ or listen to the sites posted in my signature.

Hey, I do appreciate the value of that statement, "Prison is the new slavery." I read not so long ago that the U.S. leads the world in percentage of population imprisoned. What a thing it is--to lead the world in a statistic like that! Is our justice system corrupt? Do we have too many offenses that result in jail terms? I wish I knew more about what is going on and why.
