Randi praised the Newshour today.
I usually watch the Newshour regularly but have too major issues with them.

First, they generally bend over backwards to present both sides of political arguments, giving equal time to proponents on either side of every issue. As Gwen Ifill says in their promotional clip that often runs on PBS, they don't tell the viewer what to think, they provide the viewer with the information needed to decide for themselves. Fine, you say? The problem is that not every argument deserves equal time, IMO. A perfect example being the argument over teaching evolution vs intelligent design in public schools.

Second, they go out of their way to avoid covering stories that they view as gossip and, thus, beneath the dignity of mainstream news media organizations such as themselves and, say, the New York Times. A perfect example is that they completely ignored the stories about John Edwards' extramarital affair until he had admitted to it, and even then they didn't cover the story until a few days later (well, ok, there was a weekend in there somewhere).

I know everyone is going to argue that these are the very reasons that make the Newshour such a great source of info.
My feeling is that, even with them devoting significantly more time to news every day than any other straight news program among major broadcasters, if they are your only or primary source of news, you will miss out on a lot.
