While Cripus Attucks (a black/Native American sailor) was one of the first 3 killed during the Boston Massacre, the Thursday caller's depiction of what happened that night is incorrect. See http://www.bostonmassacre.net/index.html
In brief, a mob that grew to anywhere from 300 to 400 people, confronted a Redcoat sentry and an officer, throwing rocks, bottles, and snowballs, knocking the sentry to the ground. Eight to possibly 12 Redcoats were sent out to surround and protect the sentry from the mob. A shot was fired, then several others followed, though no orders to fire were given by the officer in charge. One soldier did admit yelling "fire". The scene was very chaotic.
A trial followed and the British soldiers were represented by John Adams and Josiah Quincy, each lawyer believing that the soldiers had a right to a fair trial. Most soldiers were acquitted by virtue of self defense, and 2 others were found guilty of manslaughter.
The Discovery series Unsolved History had an episode that investigated the Massacre based on testimony of the participants and diagrams from the time of the event, and used modern forensic tests. It aired just last week on the Military Channel.
