What will you be doing personally to get Obama elected? Have you signed up as a volunteer? as an election judge or poll worker? Can you do a phone bank one night a week? Will you go door to door? Who will register voters or re-register voters? How will you talk to McCain supporters who are family members or friends? How will you spread change in your own life away from the boards?

I signed up to be an election judge. I'm a precinct captain and plan to walk my precinct as often as I need to to reach everyone and talk to my friends and neighbors. I will do phone banking one night a week as well...as the election gets closer I will do more as needed, I still have to work smile.gif

What commitment can you make?
USA1
No 1. I have commited $

No 2. I have set up on his Blog My Website.

No 3. Since I drive all over SE Georgia and NE Florida I will be putting signage all over for Barak Obama. Especially in Rural Areas.

But on a side note, I think this is healthy to get as much out about Sarah Palin's info on her as possible IMHO. smile.gif

Christine, while I was watching Obama's speech, I was thinking of you.

How long did it take you to get into the stadium? I heard stories that there were lines extending for a considerable distance.

I would be interested in hearing your first hand experience of the electrifying atmosphere, if you wanted to start a thread. I'm also wondering if any other RRMB members were in attendance.

I'm helping to build our data base by going door to door canvasing and collecting information. Until recently no one was keeping year to year, election to election information and demographics so we are building a database of Democratic voters that we can access.

Plus I plan to phone bank for them and support get out the vote drives. All our hard work goes for naught if we don't get them to the polls.

I am calling the AZ branch of the Obama campaign today to volunteer. I have never been so inspired to that than I have been by this man.

1) Dollars (my own debited monthly) and soliciting from others.
2) Doors: signed up for my area.
3) Phone calls.

And I'm just getting warmsed up. I will approach this next couple of months like I was pledging a fraternity.

Hey QBC....it was a long trek to get in...imagine I 25 shut down and people walking on it to get there..that's how many people were there! It was incredible...I wish you and your lovely wife could have been there with us...the energy would have drawn you in, of that, I am very sure...watch his speech...not just words, but plans...there's a convention thread around here someplace...and I wrote about my day in it. Also posted links to pics...I took over 100 myself but can't upload them...when I get them into an online album, I'll send you a link smile.gif

It was an unbelievable, spiritual, life affirming, energizing day....people were reaching out to each other telling their stories...it was incredible!

Dess...I know that you will be on fire, I'm just getting warmed up too...the busier I get, the less I will be here...but we'll be in touch smile.gif

Quite honestly before Palin I was satisfied and ride the Obama tide all the way to 2009. I was pretty complacent that he would win and didn't care enough about McCain to really do anything.

The morning I found out Palin was running I immediately went to the Democratic Party HQ and signed up. Palin is anthema to me and everything I believe in.

All good ideas posted here and now something else we can do that is easy and simple in addition to anything else we can do.

Send everyone you know the link to these commercials that will be coming to TV in the near future......

http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0geu7ZxprlIQSAA...uthandhope.org/

In the 2004 general election, TruthandHope aired television ads in battleground states up through election day. The television ads that were created can be viewed through the youtube link on our website. This new effort is in that same genuine grassroots tradition and this time we will win all over the country.

After seeing the response to my little ad above, and going through other ads of mine Eugene decided to restart TruthandHope.org with the express mission of airing a broadcast-quality version of the ad above (with some changes I'm working on now), and at least two other ads this cycle. Our ads will be full 60-second ads -- long enough to actually convey information, not just sound bites -- specifically detailing why McCain is such a dangerous choice. We're confident this approach will stand out from the usual back-and-forth mini-ads, and be heavily promoted online, as well as aired on television as much as financially possible (which, of course, depends on how many donations we receive!)

Because this is an grass-roots project, we will not be designing these ads in a vacuum. I have already listened to some of the best suggestions from my diary which unveiled the ad above, and am implementing those suggestions as we speak. Over the course of the next month, I'll be writing occasional diaries asking for your advice and help in scripting additional ads. (i.e. "could someone find me a statistic that shows the number of foreclosures from 2005-2008" or "is any of you an articulate Lansing-area woman who would like to look right into the camera and beg America not to elect McCain")

Make no mistake -- these will be biting, hard-hitting ads designed to reach the open-minded independents and fence-sitters who have no idea how extreme some of the McCain-Palin positions really are. Obama and Biden are limited on how negative their ads can go. PAC advertisements, as you have seen by those never-ending Bill Ayers ads from the American Racists Project, can be a little more biting. That does not mean we're going to tarnish Obama's positive campaign, or run baseless personal attacks. But it does mean, in an ad about McCain's abysmal record on women's issues, we're allowed to bring up his propensity for rape jokes and anti-woman language, whereas Obama's campaign cannot (for practical, "above-the-fray" reasons). In addition, we will endeavor to reach the disaffected Republicans by pointing out specifically how their own party has a worse record on promoting fiscal and international responsibility than we do. As two individuals who were once conservative, and now see why those nice-sounding ideals don't work in practice, we're in a good position to understand the "mind of the enemy", and know what to say that might have won us over a few years earlier.

I have no idea how many of you who promised to chip in to run the above ad will read this and actually chip in, but we need as much help and support as we can get. This is a chance to further advance the democratization of the political ad process, to have our specific progressive voice be heard, and expose McCain for the sell-out unstable warmonger he has sadly become.

Let's get to work.

Why? Is this VP pick making you nervous? Just curious, I'm not voting Repub anyway but I gotta say that it made me a little nervous. I'm worried about the independents who might be swayed by this pick.
CowboySteve
C'mon, give us a week. We have a veritable Incitatus of the Tundra, and you don't want to let us romp for at least a few days?

Barack looked like he was about to bust when he talked with the media about Sarah Palin's nomination. He's the kinda guy that probably remembers the names of ten thousand US politicians - and never heard of her.
RandiLover
I have been on the ham bands telling the repigs I told you so. I have also been writing my congress person and representative. I signed Kucinich's petition. I have also told Pelosi she is working for the wrong side and looked forward to her losing her seat.

Not sure if you are referring to my post but if you have to ask why then you are seriously underestimating the American voter.......Half of them voted for Bush again in 2004..........
DreadTheLibertarians
Sorry Plodder, my post was a general-post. But to respond to your comment... What % are actually registered independents? Is is almost 30%? That's what makes me worry...

had an idea what if instead of a $400 a plate dinner that the elite get to schmooze with the candidates have a 10 or 20 dollar a plate dinner for regular folks to fund a dinner for the homeless or maybey a food donation as an entrance fee to benefit the local foodbanks. rather than restricting to the elite would include and engage regular folks and help others at the same time.

Christine: I know we've have had our disagreements, but YOU ARE 100% RIGHT ON THIS ONE.

Overwhelming Victory is the Singular Objective! ... Confidence is OK but NO COMPLACENCY!

Another $100 to Obama Camp + Bonus: $50 to Hillary Debt Reduction (sent via snail mail, along with nice letter thanking her for her magnanimity)

MediaCorp is a far larger hurdle than Grampy-WhatsHerName 2008, right? So Member of MoveOn, MediaMatters, Fox Attacks, Brave New and do whatever they ask me to do re: signing petitions, emailing scuymsucking swine "journalists", writing newspapers, forwarding to friends, etc.

Participate in NARAL and Planned Parenthood calls to action

Surfin' and Diggin' to push anti-grampy links & videos to top of the traffic heap.

Constant Updates to GenX for Obama website + SodaHead + MySpace (Help from McCain-aged Mom/Obama supporter on MySpace :-)

Convinced my friend Lisa (a nice 50-something Jewish girl from Philly who was a die hard Hillary fan and somewhat on the fence) to do the right thing for future generations !

And of course, having fun roundly bashing grampy here on RRMB with my fellow Progressive Patriots :-)

Unlike RW freakazoids, True Patriots know what it means to be committed to leaving this nation in better shape on the day we die than on the day we were born.

We have been committed to Overwhelming Victory:Fifty State Sweep since long before the Grampy-WhatsHerName 2008 made its debut.

The selection of a Laughably Unqualifed, Demonstratively Insane, Card-Carrying Member of The American Taliban has only served to steel our resolve.

What have you done for your candidate lately, there, Libertarian? Smokin' some doobies and praying for rain?

Hi Christine,

I posted a little earlier along these lines here.

I'm already a one man campaign crew, I talk to anyone anywhere about the importance of electing Obama.

Also, one of the things they asked me to do as a volunteer is to write letters to the editor. I'm going to enjoy that.

These "Libertarians" go around proclaiming their Reverence for The Constitution, yet they are willing to endorse four more years. fuct.gif

PS: In expectation that "Libertarian" will reply with "the FISA card"... from now until Nov. 4, I am all-in with Obama's decisions to do WHATEVER it takes to get elected. Unconstitutional Legislation can (and will) be changed once the Progressive Dems take back the Executive, Legislative and Judicial and return this nation to The Rule of Law. In the meantime , as RR has stated many times, at least now the Cheney Crime Syndicate has to get a warrant before they violate Libertarian's Constitutional rights.
