The Mayor and council of Wasilla meet once every two weeks.
The General Fund balance is $4,823,723, up significantly from when Palin was in the Mayor's seat.
Wasilla DOES have a library. A library. (A second one is in the planning stages)
In the 2007 election Wasilla had about 4,500 registered voters, with an approximately 21+% turnout. The winners scored between 435 and 500+ votes.
Wasilla describes itself as being "only 45 minutes from the hustle and bustle" of Anchorage, but "a step away from Alaska's wilderness.
The year Palin left office, the city employed 85 people.
That Wasilla has an airport has been cited as evidence Palin is even experienced in the field of aviation, which is of course an important federal function. The city's airport related expenses - operating costs for the airport - in the current FY were $76,384.
Approximately 75-85% of Wasilla's revenues come from sales tax revenues, a drastically different funding system than that of the federal government.
To maintain that serving as council member for four (three year) terms and Mayor as one term of Wasilla provides in any way, shape or form the experience necessary for holding the top two elected offices in the United States is not simply wrong. I believe one has to be intentionally deceitful to make the claim.
Better someone should try claiming that Palin's 20 months as the governor of Alaska - with a population dwarfed by SUBURBS of Los Angeles, a state budget with zero income taxes and revenues coming almost exclusively from oil - has prepared her for the offices of Vice-President and President. Hell, this morning I heard a rightwing pundit arguing that her having been "Commander in Chief" of the Alaska National Guard gives her plenty of "military experience."
