I've got a co-worker who was a staunch Hillary supporter. When Hillary dropped out of the race, she said she was voting for McCain.

The other night she saw the speech that Hillary gave at the Convention and decided then to support Obama. Then the dreaded choice of McCain....a woman. Now she's shifting her vote back to McCain. Her thing is a woman in the race. It doesn't matter which woman just as long it is a woman.

I've told her that he's not big on woman's rights (voted 7 times against equal pay), he only met Palin 2 times, they both want to overturn Roe V. Wade.

She admits she doesn't know enough to make an intelligent decision. Can anyone out there give me some ideas?

thanks in advance. unsure.gif

either you can try an open and honest dialogue and tell her to look up their voting records on a non-partisan site, and choose according to how they fit with her ethics.

Or you can say that the kids were adopted and she was born a man.

(I'd go with the first one)

I have a similar story with a male co-worker, he saw the speech and spoke favorably of Obama afterward. The thing is if she's that shallow to want to vote McCain because of Palin then there's not much you can do. She's admitted to being an uneducated voter and they are the worst kind. I would advise you to just advise her to watch the debates before she makes up her mind. If she does that then the clear choice will be Obama. If you try and force the issue you may lose her as a voter and a friend. wink.gif

I think a better profile of her would help. If she doesn't have her own set of values, then she'll never be able to make an informed decision because she won't care one way or the other. So if she's voting vaginas instead of policies... then there's no hope. She has to see more effectively how it will affect her.

I had a coworker during the primaries come in to my lab and say, "I voted for Hilary so we could show the men." That comment alone showed me her ignorance in making a meaningful vote. No mention of issues.

Hillary's Constituency Weighs In

QUOTE
I am aghast at the cynicism of this choice. As if Hillary’s voters will go for any woman. Hillary’s constituency (myself being one of them who has now moved to Obama) is not going to vote for a woman who is against choice, against stem cell research and thinks creationism should be taught in schools. They may have chosen a woman but they don’t understand women.

The choice of Palin is simply irresponsible. McCain has a 50 percent chance of being president and he puts a heartbeat away from the presidency a 44-year-old who has been governor of the least populated state in the union for less than two years. And that’s the extent of her experience. What on earth does she know about anything to do with governing a huge country or about foreign policy? Her debate with Biden should be very interesting.

To think, as I’m sure they do, that former Hillary supporters can be wooed to their ticket by adding a pro-life, lifetime NRA member surely ranks as one of the dumbest political moves in many years. I will be very surprised if Obama doesn’t get a significant bump in the polls just from this news.

I don’t know what to say about John McCain and his decision-making abilities. Not long ago, I had to redo my will, and you wouldn’t believe the time spent trying to decide who would be the guardian of our kids in the event we died. Longtime friends, close relatives, lawyers – all these were examined, sifted, rejected, and then re-examined before we made a final selection.

And then there’s John McCain …

Nice quotes... I especially like the last one. It subtly raises the issue of McCain's age.

I dunno. But I think I'd try to turn her attention to issues. Too bad Hillary didn't say so, but Palin stands for everything Hillary says she has spent her life opposing, plus even as she sends her son to Iraq, she confesses that she doesn't know very much about what is going on there. This is a "token" woman, an inexperienced woman (which Hillary certainly was not), set up to prove that women can't cope. How can any woman give adequate attention to a role like that of Vice President of the United States of America and, at the same time, give adequate attention to an infant, handicapped child? She has been set up to fail, either as a politician or as a mother. Is that what any woman wants for women, that we should be set up to fail? Why should we have to be twice as good as any man in order to be good enough?

This is a no brainier. The conservatives have spent 7 trillion, the other 2 and a half is what the deficit went up under Bill before he brought it to a halt. What have we gotten for our 7 trillion that they have spent? Our entire infrastructure has been shipped out of here. We are a service society, so I hope you enjoy running a cash register. If you do manual labor, you will get paid crap. We no longer build anything anymore, we have broken our word to our people, the world, our name is crap. We kiss the behinds of Saudis and Chinese while Russia realizes they are stronger. Is this what your friend wants? Obama during his speech promised to restore our Constitution. Does this mean anything to your friend? This administration tried to sell our ports, bridges, roads, our buildings are being bought up like a damn fire sale. Ask your friend if they can speak Chinese. If this crap keeps up, we will need it.

What's the difference between a white person who votes white, a man who votes for men, a woman who votes for women? That's a question for her to ponder, if she's the ponderin' sort.

If not, then you might have to try to get her vote, more than educate her. Sometimes people vote according to how those they trust do, even if they can't think for themselves. Maybe there is a way to point to a list of women behind Obama/Biden, and why ...?

Good points... I might get the courage to discuss it with her. Maybe I should pull her to the side. Or talk to my other co-worker (her friend) that usually stays over during my shift when everybody else leaves. I don't play much politics in the lab as the "new black guy." I'm probably just being paranoid. But the older white lady that stays over will probably hear from me since she likes to talk smile.gif

If she truly was a Hillary supporter, then she's pro-choice, right? Just ask her if she wants to see a return of the back-alley abortionist butchers. If that doesn't make a dent, then just call her a hopeless stupid twat, and walk away, saving your breath for someone who might listen to reason.

Remind her that Hilary said vote for Obama. Then ask her did she vote for Hilary because she's a woman, or because of what she stands for.

Sorry about this, but it sounds like your co-worker is an idiot.

You might suggest that until she's competent to vote, that she follow the hippocratic oath to "at least do no harm", and stay her stupid ass home.

Sorry, but AT THIS STAGE, after everything we've seen, if you still can't figure this out? You're not emotionally or intellectually mature enough to participate in the advanced citizenship required of American Democracy.

You cannot of course, dart her, tie her up, and prevent her from making one of the stupidest choices in her life, but at a minimum I'd advise her to either stay at home or buy a:

Turnabout is fair play:

It's 3:00 AM and Vlad Putin's on the phone talking smack about nukes...

Yes, it's true this is only the VP but if your friend knows anything about the American Taliban (aka Evangelicals) then she will know that putting WhatsHerName a heartbeat away puts one GIANT target on McCain's back (or arsenic in his Viagra, in his B-12 IV drip, in his denture adhesive...)

What boggles my mind is a woman who claims she wanted Hillary to be her leader... but for some reason finds it hard to follow her lead.
