Full Version: McCain's VP pick Palin shows...
Randi Rhodes Message Board > Main Forums > Focused Interests > VICTORY 2008
kernaljessup
At the current juncture as to the state of the USA, John McCain picks a person who's political experience is sorely lacking. It just goes to show how much John McCain cares about the problems facing the American people and the world at large. The Republicans truly have hit rock bottom with this Traditional pick and John McCain is not getting any younger folks. Basically McCain is saying, if he craps the bed, don't worry America, he's got the "Brownie" of VP picks and Palin will finish fucking up this country for GOP and me. So there...

How can they prance Palin out as a viable VP pick in the wake of all that has happened under their watch and massaging over the past 16 years? The Republican party is succinctly a party that does not have the American peoples best interest at heart...they are a collection of calculated, bumbling clowns and criminals...whom must be tossed out like so much trash.

I couldn't agree more, kernaljessup.

The selection of Sarah Palin is a harsh reminder of the kind of government that Bush and republicans have been providing for the past eight years. Alberto Gonzales, Harriet Miers, Michael “Brownie” Brown, Michael Chertoff, Monica Goodling and many others have become symbols of what is wrong with the republican administration. These individuals do not represent the best and brighest of what this country has to offer, rather they represent the disdain and disrespect republicans have for govenment and the people they're supposed to serve.

McCain selects his VP choice on Friday. And the first question that many asked was, who is Sarah Palin? Fortunately we have a media which is ready and willing to interview Sarah Palin, and a campaign that wants to introduce Sarah Palin to the country.

And yet...here it is Sunday morning, and Sarah didn't make it to a single Sunday morning news show. No Brokaw. No Schieffer. No Stephanopolous. No Blitzer. No Wallace.

Strange how that is. Most politicians would jump at the opportunity to have a media sit down on the national stage to discuss their thoughts on a variety of issues. And most campaigns would be thrilled to have the free press coverage of their fresh VP nominee.

If McCain and his campaign and the GOP are as confident in Sarah Palin as they claim to be, doesn't it seem logical that they would be pushing to get her as much media exposure as possible? Her absence from the Sunday morning news shows is quite telling.

If you don't agree with his opinion would I be free to request a link from you as "proof" as to why middleoftheroad's opinion is wrong?

Most normal criteria for a careful selection process seem to have been disregraded by McCain and his team. For instance, it has been widely reported McCain has met Palin but once before announcing her as VP choice; and, it is not at all clear (as yet) as to when that meeting took place.

If we've learned one thing the last 8 years it is that competence matters in presidential decdision-makig. Spin or no spin, the McCain selection process was careless and all but thoughtless on all levels except naked political calculation.

Here are Stewart's and Colbert's responses respectfully:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Aj2w0OdiIM

Here's an e-mail I got from MoveOn.org about Palin

Dear MoveOn member,

Yesterday was John McCain's 72nd birthday. If elected, he'd be the oldest president ever inaugurated. And after months of slamming Barack Obama for "inexperience," here's who John McCain has chosen to be one heartbeat away from the presidency: a right-wing religious conservative with no foreign policy experience, who until recently was mayor of a town of 9,000 people.

Huh?

Who is Sarah Palin? Here's some basic background:

* She was elected Alaska 's governor a little over a year and a half ago. Her previous office was mayor of Wasilla, a small town outside Anchorage. She has no foreign policy experience.

1 Palin is strongly anti-choice, opposing abortion even in the case of rape or incest.

2 She supported right-wing extremist Pat Buchanan for president in 2000.

3 Palin thinks creationism should be taught in public schools.

4 She's doesn't think humans are the cause of climate change.

5 She's solidly in line with John McCain's "Big Oil first" energy policy. She's pushed hard for more oil drilling and says renewables won't be ready for years. She also sued the Bush administration for listing polar bears as an endangered species—she was worried it would interfere with more oil drilling in Alaska.

6 How closely did John McCain vet this choice? He met Sarah Palin once at a meeting. They spoke a second time, last Sunday, when he called her about being vice-president. Then he offered her the position.

7 This is information the American people need to see. Please take a moment to forward this email to your friends and family.

We also asked Alaska MoveOn members what the rest of us should know about their governor. The response was striking. Here's a sample:

She is really just a mayor from a small town outside Anchorage who has been a governor for only 1.5 years, and has ZERO national and international experience. I shudder to think that she could be the person taking that 3AM call on the White House hotline, and the one who could potentially be charged with leading the US in the volatile international scene that exists today. —Rose M., Fairbanks, AK

She is VERY, VERY conservative, and far from perfect. She's a hunter and fisherwoman, but votes against the environment again and again. She ran on ethics reform, but is currently under investigation for several charges involving hiring and firing of state officials. She has NO experience beyond Alaska. —Christine B., Denali Park, AK

As an Alaskan and a feminist, I am beyond words at this announcement. Palin is not a feminist, and she is not the reformer she claims to be. —Karen L., Anchorage, AK

Alaskans, collectively, are just as stunned as the rest of the nation. She is doing well running our State, but is totally inexperienced on the national level, and very much unequipped to run the nation, if it came to that. She is as far right as one can get, which has already been communicated on the news. In our office of thirty employees (dems, republicans, and nonpartisans), not one person feels she is ready for the V.P. position.—Sherry C., Anchorage, AK

She's vehemently anti-choice and doesn't care about protecting our natural resources, even though she has worked as a fisherman. McCain chose her to pick up the Hillary voters, but Palin is no Hillary. —Marina L., Juneau, AK

I think she's far too inexperienced to be in this position. I'm all for a woman in the White House, but not one who hasn't done anything to deserve it. There are far many other women who have worked their way up and have much more experience that would have been better choices. This is a patronizing decision on John McCain's part- and insulting to females everywhere that he would assume he'll get our vote by putting "A Woman" in that position.—Jennifer M., Anchorage, AK

So Governor Palin is a staunch anti-choice religious conservative. She's a global warming denier who shares John McCain's commitment to Big Oil. And she's dramatically inexperienced.

In picking Sarah Palin, John McCain has made the religious right very happy. And he's made a very dangerous decision for our country.

In the next few days, many Americans will be wondering what McCain's vice-presidential choice means. Please pass this information along to your friends and family.

Thanks for all you do.

It would be interesting if the MSM would ask McCain or Palin what her potential role would be. The response should be worth a couple of laughs. cool.gif

In the days prior to the Clintons speaking at the convention, the media kept harping on whether Bill and Hillary would offer "full-throated" endorsements of Barack Obama. Even moments after Hillary gave her speech endorsing Obama, there were some talking-heads that were picking away at every line, every phrase, and every word, trying desperately to find something that may suggest that Hillary might not be completely on board.

And yet, when John McCain introduced his VP nominee, he failed to provide an argument of how Sarah Palin is qualified to be VP. No mention of foreign policy strengths. No mention of how her unique skills will help turn the economy around. No mention of how Palin is supremely qualified for the position at all. One might even suggest that McCain failed to offer a "full-throated" endorsement of Sarah Palin.

Perhaps the MSM need to read the transcript to see how little McCain said about his VP selection.

Dandy question, that.
