Full Version: It's not all about stealing Obama's Thunder

I have a suspicion about the reason McCain anounced his choice of VP on the Friday before Labor Day weekend...

It was somewhat about stealing Obama's thunder. But I believe there is another, far more devious reason.

By announcing Sarah Palin on Friday, the McCain campaign took advantage of the MSM's three day news cycle, and he did it over a weekend when people have made plans and won't keep track of the news. In doing so, he is counting on the subject of the her ethical problems, nutty ideas and inexperience to have faded. And Tuesday is hardly a peak news day, especially when half the country has a hangover.

The subject of how Alaska is the largest state geographically in the Union will be brought repeatedly to the fore. The fact that it is more than 90% Federal land will never be emphasized. Also, the lunatic fringe of AM radio, along with Fox and ABC, will have it's talking points in place and it's carefully edited videos ready to screen.

Sarah Palin is a far greater threat than she has thus far been given credit for. In addition to her good looks (definitely the VPILF), she is quite well spoken and fairly concise. She won't look nearly as bad pitted against Biden as expected. Anyway, a lot of people won't pay any attention to the VP debates.

The choice of Mrs. Palin could have been a much better idea than it has been given credit for.

Sarah Palin's connections that McCain doesn't want you to know about

There are quite a number of extremely troubling links between Sarah Palin and neopentecostal dominionists--enough that, in truth, she may be ultimately as much of a "dream candidate" for the dominionist movement as Mike Huckabee was. Even worse, she's running in a manner that has been frighteningly successful for dominionist groups since the early 80's--specifically, as a "stealth candidate".

Joel's Army believers are hard-core Christian dominionists, meaning they believe that America, along with the rest of the world, should be governed by conservative Christians and a conservative Christian interpretation of biblical law. There is no room in their doctrine for democracy or pluralism.

What RW freaks fail to realize is that to Progressive Patriots it is much bigger than electing Obama, it is about utter annihilation of the Neo-Con Fascist and EVILangelical Sponsored Blood-for-Oil Party and taking back the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial. Grampy/WhatsHerName are not up against Obama/Biden -- they are up against a coupla hundred million Americans who seek a return to reverence for The Constitution and the Rule of Law.

Hope the sheeple are all set to breathe the fetid dust of the GOP extinction.

It seems unclear just WHAT church she goes to, or what denomination she actually is, or how she self-identifies. The Kos diary links to "Juneau Christian Center" as her church, but it's also been reported as Juneau's "Church on the Rock", which appears to me to be a neo-pentecostal/neo-charismatic outfit.

What is clear is that she runs in one of the wackiest circuits in American Christianity. The good news is that it is so fraught with handwringing over correct dogma that they inevitably break off from each other, splintering even further. We can be certain that the HUNDREDS of whacko Protestants and post-Protestants will be the ones to rip her apart...not Biden, lol

There's plenty of time left and plenty of news cycles, to tear down Palin, point by point.

Given that McCain’s maverick mantle is predicated on his willingness to go against his party’s grain, and cross the political isle, his VP choice is all the odder. It is the independent and most thoughtful voters who are up for grabs this election only because of both candidates perceived willingness to behave in a more mature manner and consider any and all solutions to the world’s and our nation’s most pressing issues. Yet, as of Friday, McCain has not only dropped his Maverick title but has thrown it in the biggest stinking political refuse pile imaginable. Unless he thinks that nominating a running mate with female body parts gives him an identity pass, he could not have more cynically stated that he has absolutely no intention whatsoever of meeting anyone half way on any issue and we can definitely expect another four years of the Bush/Cheney mode of operandi. Independents beware, Sarah Palin not only represents the grain of partisanship – she’s the whole block of wood.

It's about the oil in Alaska as short-term band-aid on a long-term problem, to "fix" the "economy" so that people will think things are getting better. It won't work. The People Have Awakened. Yes, We Can.

Greetings, hit-and-run poster!

It's called the Friday night dump.

But you're right about the VPILF thing, I'm sure that Americans will vote between McCain and Obama based on who has a cuter ass, Palin or Biden.

The choice of Palin is a Hail Mary pass, in order to cement the "Abortion is the only issue" Evangelicals and the disaffected "Pro-Choice is the only Choice" Clinton supporters. Good luck, grampa.

Don't short-change the cute ass business. Bush's popularity in 2000 was based in part because he was "the guy you'd rather have a beer with". One of Kerry's problems in 2004 was that Theresa Heinz Kerry was a bit of an oddball. In either election, particularly in '00, a tiny fraction of the vote would have changed the outcome.

Yeah...like 1 (one) Supreme Court Justice's vote in '00, since Gore overwhelmingly won the popular vote.

Our "system" sucks.

Badly.

Yes, I see the close quote at the end of the otherwise identical post. And it was pointed out to me by someone else immediately AFTER the time expired for editing.

Please forgive me while I spend the next couple of hours looking desperately for a way to make this someone else's fault. I'll retract and apologize now, but come back with a fantastic tale and contortion of facts to try and escape responsibility.

Oh, wait... I know.

PESTONE! Get over here! LOOK what you've done now! ...

You got that right! That's one day of news cycle stealing, followed by two days of (sadly) Gustav tracking...

Next up: 60-odd days of Trial by Fire for Miss American Taliban.
