You know a persons private conversations should be just that, Private! Of course the Bush administration loves spying and wire taping so it doesn't surprise me that you would love the first one. The Michael Moore one was just commentary and they did say they hoped everyone was safe and in neither one did they wish anyone any harm.

Maybe Gustaf is Gods way of dumping on the Republicans saying here's another mess see if you can handle this any metter than the last one instead of having your pity party in Minn.

Maybe the Republicans shouldn't have prayed for rain in Denver, it may have backfire on them.

Once again to my friends in NOLA, be safe.

You'd think it would be Rick Davis and the McCainanites that would be the grateful ones. Planning something as big as a convention and having it be a success is not a typical conservative strong point. Failing and having an excuse, however, well, that's just like going home.

As much as I appreciate MM for all of the good work he's done I have always found him to have a hard, stumbling time when talking to the media. It's like he isin't ready to take questions or really interested..............

Yeah they are horrible people that want Gustav to kill people. rolleyes.gif

Although I admit it's not wise of them to praise a hurricane. They don't mean it like that. They are saying that because people need to be reminded about the disaster that was Katrina so that they don't support McCain. It's tacky, but I understand it, and you are stupid if you think they are excited about the hurricane.

It's nonsense and very typical of the OP.

It's true that Moore managed to put his foot in his mouth on Countdown the other night, and based on his 90 seconds of fumbling afterwards, he knew it.

But he didn't praise God for Gustav anymore than Falwell praised God for 911 or Hagee praised God for bringing Katrina down on a gay pride parade.

Moore's letter to God:

http://www.michaelmoore.com/words/message/index.php?id=229

Dear God,

The other night, James Dobson's organization asked all believers to pray for a storm on Thursday night so that the Obama acceptance speech outdoors in Denver would have to be canceled.

I see that You have answered Dr. Dobson's prayers -- except the storm You have sent to earth is not over Denver, but on its way to New Orleans! In fact, You have scheduled it to hit Louisiana at exactly the moment that George W. Bush is to deliver his speech at the Republican National Convention.

Now, heavenly Father, we all know You have a great sense of humor and impeccable timing. To send a hurricane on the third anniversary of the Katrina disaster AND right at the beginning of the Republican Convention was, at first blush, a stroke of divine irony. I don't blame You, I know You're angry that the Republicans tried to blame YOU for Katrina by calling it an "Act of God" -- when the truth was that the hurricane itself caused few casualties in New Orleans. Over a thousand people died because of the mistakes and neglect caused by humans, not You.

Some of us tried to help after Katrina hit, while Bush ate cake with McCain and twiddled his thumbs. I closed my office in New York and sent my entire staff down to New Orleans to help. I asked people on my website to contribute to the relief effort I organized -- and I ended up sending over two million dollars in donations, food, water, and supplies (collected from thousands of fans) to New Orleans while Bush's FEMA ice trucks were still driving around Maine three weeks later.

But this past Thursday night, the Washington Post reported that the Republicans had begun making plans to possibly postpone the convention. The AP had reported that there were no shelters set up in New Orleans for this storm, and that the levee repairs have not been adequate. In other words, as the great Ronald Reagan would say, "There you go again!"

So the last thing John McCain and the Republicans needed was to have a split-screen on TVs across America: one side with Bush and McCain partying in St. Paul, and on the other side of the screen, live footage of their Republican administration screwing up once again while New Orleans drowns.

So, yes, You have scared the Jesus, Mary and Joseph out of them, and more than a few million of your followers tip their hats to You.

But now it appears that You haven't been having just a little fun with Bush & Co. It appears that Hurricane Gustav is truly heading to New Orleans and the Gulf coast. We hear You, O Lord, loud and clear, just as we did when Rev. Falwell said You made 9/11 happen because of all those gays and abortions. We beseech You, O Merciful One, not to punish us again as Pat Robertson said You did by giving us Katrina because of America's "wholesale slaughter of unborn children." His sentiments were echoed by other Republicans in 2005.

So this is my plea to you: Don't do this to Louisiana again. The Republicans got your message. They are scrambling and doing the best they can to get planes, trains and buses to New Orleans so that everyone can get out. They haven't sent the entire Louisiana National Guard to Iraq this time -- they are already patrolling the city streets. And, in a nod to I don't know what, Bush's head of FEMA has named a man to help manage the federal government's response. His name is W. Michael Moore. I kid you not, heavenly Father. They have sent a man with both my name AND W's to help save the Gulf Coast.

So please God, let the storm die out at sea. It's done enough damage already. If you do this one favor for me, I promise not to invoke your name again. I'll leave that to the followers of Dr. Dobson and to those gathering this week in St. Paul.

Your faithful servant and former seminarian,

Michael Moore

They didn't exactly praise God. That's correct. All I know is that when Moore was on Olbermann Friday night he said Thank God that the hurricane was coming. But he didn't mean it in the way the OP is portraying it. Moore can be a douchebag when talking to the media and he often comes off making himself look really bad. I like him, but he needs to learn to talk to people better.

Edit: I don't remember Moore's exact words but I was talking to people on here when I was watching it and somebody was packing up their car and leaving because of the storm and was very upset at him for saying that. If someone remembers exactly, then please correct me.

Yes he fudged his words. That's what I meant. I didn't mean that I was in agreement with the OP about him praising God for the hurricane.

Actually, no one praised God in either of those videos. One said "God is on our side." and the other said "there is a God in Heaven."

You would be hard pressed to find a Democrat who would not prefer to see Gustav stall over the Gulf and burn itself out rather than hitting land.
Kane
Let me see if I get this straight. Lying us into a war, no problem. Taking the largest surplus and turning it into the largest budget deficit, no big deal. Watching as citizens drowned in New Orleans, a minor detail. Torture in our name, not a problem. Sleep at the wheel while the country suffered the worst attack in our nation's history, no biggie. Leaking the name of a CIA agent, too detailed to matter. Wearing band-aids at the Republican convention to mock the war injuries of John Kerry, no big deal. Politicalization of Pat Tillman's death, meh. Suggest that the Democratic presidential nominee is a traitor, no problem.

But two private citizens who happen to be democrats say something stupid, and it's the outrageous and scandalous?

I think it's about time you called that therapist and take a chance that someone can help you get over that single-minded hate that's consumed you. Boy, you're gonna be eaten alive by it before much longer.

By the way, I told my husband just the other night that it looks like The Focus on The Family's Knuckleheads' prayers may have been answered. I just doubt very seriously that they'll be able to decode it.

And since I'm a non-theist, I'm not "wishing death" or destruction on anyone, just turning their faith and belief back to them.

If they believe in "god" and they pray to that "god" for a specific event to show....something, I guess "god's" disapproval of the other guy, and "god" gives that other guy a beautimus night of weather, but then turns around a week later and sends that very prayer request back onto the people who done all the prayin', then by their own Rules of Engagement, their "god" has just answered their prayers loud and clear. "It's MOSES time!"
