The repukelickins were asking people to pray to some sort of god to rain on Obama's speech last week. Apparently, their god listens to petty requests from hateful people -- see it on YouTube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJY0NuBC7vo

I saw in one of the YouTube comments that someone said the T-shirt will read: "I prayed for rain, but all I got was Gustav".

I am a Christian, I totally believe this is a coincidence, but what do I know. They picked New Orleans because they screwed up so bad last time. So now they will save it to save the Convention, that works for me. Those people have gone through hell because of this administration, any help for any reason works for me. If they cant cover it, let Castro help for crying out loud. It is hitting about the same time Katrina blew through, so it looks like its just a weather pattern. But that is just my opinion.

I swear I am in an alternate universe. You just can't make this crap up. I am speechless. Anyone ever watch "Sliders"?
danisnape
CNN is talking about Hurricane Gustav, and that the RNC will be the bare-bones:

"Who wants him?"
"me"
"okay"

Convention.

It's a shame, I was looking foward to Cindy McCain explaining how she's just like us with her privately-owned planes because it's the only way to get around New Mexico. I wanted to hear McCain's speech and see if it focused on a plan for fixing america or fear-mongering the base of "Obama will kill your babies, force your sons to get gay married to illegal immigrants, and surrender to the terrorists".

Yes, and they were more in control of their destiny than the neoconry is at this point. A lose-lose, because every appearance or mention of the again-beleaguered Gulf Coast by the GOP serves to remind that 3 years ago they weren't so quick on the uptake, and that it wasn't a Demo who pulled out of the Kyoto Protocols, and on, and on, and on.
What can they do? If they totally cancel the convention, that's a whole lot of POed delegates, hotels, airlines and restaurants, and if they continue with it, they're having a party while people are again in jeopardy. Fool U.S. once, shame on you, fool U.S. twice, shame on U.S., fool U.S. thrice --- well, you won't, because, just as with another false-flag event in October, this time We The Peeps will be looking not overseas but at Shrubco.

Absolute freefall.

Sounds like McCain's going to try to look like a pro-active, help-in-time-of-disaster guy by cancelling the convention.

A big change from the eating cake while the levees failed three years ago.

(btw, anyone remember Olbermann declaring Worst Person the contractor who 'fixed' the levees with newspaper? something tells me some of these levees will fail due to profiteering cheapskates.)

Let us all remember that TITS are better than PUMA's!

Maybe Randi can forget about the PUMA's and start on the TITS on Monday?

"Traiters In The System"

I was looking forward to hearing from these progressive woman that were going to wear tight shirts and bounce 'em all over the place at the RNC.

Pah!

jammonius
Wait a minute. At best, the R convention will pale in comparison to last week's Obama/Clinton fest. Now, instead of being shown up, the Rs get to blame the weather.

I don't like this.

And whats even worse than that are how people like you, Michael Moore, and some other posters in this thread seem to be beaming with delight over how your party will gain a political advantage due to a natural disaster where homes will be lost and people will be hurt or killed.

Since when do conservatives care about such things, unless it's in the case of the gun nuts shooting at people trying to cross a bridge?

We at this board, are sick of disaster politics. This is all we have had during this administration and they need to go. We did not want this, but we do have to deal with it. We all looked forward to a repug convention we could make fun of, this is a let down. I suggest if they need trailers after this storm, let a democrat pick them out.

They probably wanted something like this to happen because they knew their convention would be a joke.

What pisses me off about this is we pissed away 4 trillion dollars and we have not fixed New Orleans. This is such a damn travesty. Again they are talking about the levis not up to par, this is just wrong.

Indeed. When New Orleans drowns again, the GOP only have themselves to blame. This time around the Mayor and Governor are both Republicans.

I sure they will try to blame the Dems in Congress, but that's going to be a HUGE stretch, even for the Blame-o-cans.

Updated:

Republican Texas Senators Kay Bailey Hutchison and John Cornyn are in Minnesota Sunday on the eve of the Republican National Convention, and both will likely be changing their plans soon.

Senator Hutchison's office tells CBS 11 that she will join President Bush on Monday for a tour of the Texas Emergency Operations Center in Austin, as well as the Alamo Regional Command Reception Center in San Antonio. The Senator is scheduled to address delegates of the Republican National Convention on Wednesday.

A spokesman from Senator Cornyn's office says Cornyn was set to return to Texas for a prior event in the state on Wednesday, before Senator John McCain's acceptance speech at the RNC, but he plans now to speak to the Texas delegates Monday morning and will likely return to Texas Monday afternoon based on flight availability.

Both offices say the Senators continue to be notified and updated on the ongoing situation in the state.

Instead of having a Convention with no people, they have more rubble to have a photo op on. This could have been prevented once again. They are showing on CNN the stuff that should have been worked on. It is time to let Iraq build their own embassy and get those resources back here to keep this city from flooding.

No member on this thread or in this board has said such a thing. No Democrat, liberal or progressive wants to see anyone harmed in a Hurricane. Further, many of our members are situated in the path of this storm. For you to suggest such a thing is disgusting and vulgar.

The membership has been pointing out, and quite accurately, the irony of how the lack of response/compassion/responsibility of the Bush administration during Katrina has come back to bite them in the political ass. That's not beaming with delight, that's simply stating the facts.
CowboySteve
Last time, I notified work that I would be available for emergency response in New Orleans, and registered to be called if they needed my professional assistance. The terms were - you get an address, you go there on your own, bring food, bring blankets, you get shelter and maybe food, and a place to help. Sounds fine with me.

We ought to spend LESS time fighting over what the other side says that we say that God wants, and more time figuring out how to get there first with the most.

I can already see the spin they're going to try to run on this: Republicans, the party that gets down to business. They already knew their convention wasn't going to compete with the DNC with regard to ratings. The oil prices will rise, the claims of no gas spills will be claimed (can't have that happening when you want more offshore drilling.) Then they''re going to try to claim the Dems took a vacation when gas prices were high (even though the Repubs wouldn't pass the bills that would actually make a difference. ) And of course we don't get to see them resolve their obvious issues with Palin as a Vice pick and the diseffected Romney and Huckleberry supporters.

I saw Blitzer or some CNN correspondent interviewing at the RNC, and one of the spokes persons said (with regard to Gustav), "we've gotta be on this since GHWBush was BLAMED for [Katrina]." Of all the operative words to use... BLAMED?!?! That had me up in arms.
RandiLover
Congress has impeachment ready for the Pres and Vice Prick. Congress has issued subpoenas with a third attorney general sitting there with his finger in his nose. This administration has shut down two branches of government and imposed Dictator rule. Let us put the blame where it belongs. The Dobson team of lawyers is on it. wtf.gif

I will be praying for my uncle in Louisiana and my aunts in Texas and my cousins in Mississippi and a number of RRMB members situated there for the next couple of days. The intent you read into my comments is neither implicit nor stated, but entirely your own projections. What I stated were facts -- it wasn't a Democratic president who turned away from environmentally sound international agreements for the sake of corporate oil profits and cronyism, nor turned a blind eye to an entire, historic American city being left to drown while he went to birthday parties with the current Republican nominee, or staged a way-too-little-too-late photo op in the safest part of said city thereafter. It's not my fault the ironic truth stings, and how dare you suggest that I find this funny or a good thing. The Republican Convention is indeed in a lose-lose situation, hoisted on the petard of its own self-centered hypocrisy, as is the campaign. What any of that has to do with either Michael Moore or other posters is beyond me. Shame on you. Had thought you better than that.

I remember when the media was asking Bush and republicans about the government's poor response to Katrina, many of them said that they didn't want to play the blame game.

And when Bush was asked about the leaking of the name of a CIA agent, the response was that they didn't want to respond while the matter was in the courts.

And when the media asked Bush and republicans about the decision to invade Iraq on faulty intelligence, the response was that they will let history decide if invading was the right decision.

Issue after issue, republicans have run away from taking any responsibility whatsoever. When it comes to their failures, republicans are content with letting history decide. But when it comes to democratic failures, they argue that it's for voters to decide.

It is certainly to be hoped that it turns out ok, but they didn't do so when it counted, and every attempt to make U.S. believe that this time erases the visions of children on rooftops shouting "We Need HELP" or senior citizens' corpses floating down current will be for naught -- Nawlins is scarcely begun to be rebuilt, and even a Category 3, let alone the 4 or 5 that this is shaping up to become, is bad, bad news.

Actually they screwed up sooo damn bad last time, they cant afford to have their ADD kick in. Not to mention any reason to have Bush stay away from the Convention is a good thing for them. I was soooo looking forward to his speech.

They could play back the news reals and show how many lies he made. There are weapons of mass destruction, Mission Accomplished, ohhh we made a mistake, we are liberating them, we are fighting Alcida, we have to stay the course, we don't have to stay the course, they want us there, we cant pull out it will be unpatriotic, the dems want us to loose, I will smoke him out of his cave, I really don't care where he is and don't think about it much.

Many GOP Candidates are getting ready to have thier clocks cleaned ... they're abandoning going to the stupid convention ...

What's funny is Day 1 - Labor Day --- Who the fuck is going to watch their shit while they are worried about their jobs going to China or India?

Day 5 - The Washington Redskins play the NY Giants --- They are Fucked.

Their ratings would be shit.

Even in the future their ratings would be shit.

They may as well cancel the whole damn thing. Who the hell cares about the Repiggy's????

Dear God,

The other night, James Dobson's organization asked all believers to pray for a storm on Thursday night so that the Obama acceptance speech outdoors in Denver would have to be canceled.

I see that You have answered Dr. Dobson's prayers -- except the storm You have sent to earth is not over Denver, but on its way to New Orleans! In fact, You have scheduled it to hit Louisiana at exactly the moment that George W. Bush is to deliver his speech at the Republican National Convention.

Now, heavenly Father, we all know You have a great sense of humor and impeccable timing. To send a hurricane on the third anniversary of the Katrina disaster AND right at the beginning of the Republican Convention was, at first blush, a stroke of divine irony. I don't blame You, I know You're angry that the Republicans tried to blame YOU for Katrina by calling it an "Act of God" -- when the truth was that the hurricane itself caused few casualties in New Orleans. Over a thousand people died because of the mistakes and neglect caused by humans, not You.

Some of us tried to help after Katrina hit, while Bush ate cake with McCain and twiddled his thumbs. I closed my office in New York and sent my entire staff down to New Orleans to help. I asked people on my website to contribute to the relief effort I organized -- and I ended up sending over two million dollars in donations, food, water, and supplies (collected from thousands of fans) to New Orleans while Bush's FEMA ice trucks were still driving around Maine three weeks later.

But this past Thursday night, the Washington Post reported that the Republicans had begun making plans to possibly postpone the convention. The AP had reported that there were no shelters set up in New Orleans for this storm, and that the levee repairs have not been adequate. In other words, as the great Ronald Reagan would say, "There you go again!"

So the last thing John McCain and the Republicans needed was to have a split-screen on TVs across America: one side with Bush and McCain partying in St. Paul, and on the other side of the screen, live footage of their Republican administration screwing up once again while New Orleans drowns.

So, yes, You have scared the Jesus, Mary and Joseph out of them, and more than a few million of your followers tip their hats to You.

But now it appears that You haven't been having just a little fun with Bush & Co. It appears that Hurricane Gustav is truly heading to New Orleans and the Gulf coast. We hear You, O Lord, loud and clear, just as we did when Rev. Falwell said You made 9/11 happen because of all those gays and abortions. We beseech You, O Merciful One, not to punish us again as Pat Robertson said You did by giving us Katrina because of America's "wholesale slaughter of unborn children." His sentiments were echoed by other Republicans in 2005.

So this is my plea to you: Don't do this to Louisiana again. The Republicans got your message. They are scrambling and doing the best they can to get planes, trains and buses to New Orleans so that everyone can get out. They haven't sent the entire Louisiana National Guard to Iraq this time -- they are already patrolling the city streets. And, in a nod to I don't know what, Bush's head of FEMA has named a man to help manage the federal government's response. His name is W. Michael Moore. I kid you not, heavenly Father. They have sent a man with both my name AND W's to help save the Gulf Coast.

So please God, let the storm die out at sea. It's done enough damage already. If you do this one favor for me, I promise not to invoke your name again. I'll leave that to the followers of Dr. Dobson and to those gathering this week in St. Paul.

P.S. To all of God's fellow children who are reading this, the city of New Orleans has not yet recovered from Katrina. Please click here for a list of things you can do to help our brothers and sisters on the Gulf Coast. And, if you do live along the Gulf Coast, please take all necessary safety precautions immediately.

It looks like the disaster is going to be at the Repug convention. New Orleans is holding strong this time. Way to go on answering this prayer. Good news so far.

They are so GUTLESS! Can't compete with the DNC so they cancel theirs due to a storm hundreds of miles away...gotta love it!

They couldn't find the money to fully pull it off, they couldn't fill all of the seats, and they couldn't get John and Cindy able to pull off decent speeches after the DNC's "we're one of you" theme.

In short, they are saving face. Hopefully the people paid to work for the RNC still get paid.
