McCain, his wife Cindy, and his running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, toured the emergency management center in Mississippi, a state that could be hit hard by the approaching hurricane.

Why doesn't McCain just get out of their way? Why distract them from their duties? McCain is exercising poor judgment and turning Gustav into political theater.

Obama said he will stay out of their way and he will ask his large e-mail list of supporters to help Gustav victims. That is true action.

Here is what McCain did during Katrina -- he ate cake with Bush in dry, sunny Arizona (I love that this photo is posted on the official White House site):

They have no choice to be there, the Convention is in the path of the hurricane. CNN has just announced that the Convention will be called off. They will simply gavel into order the Convention and only due what is needed to keep it going. Nothing more.

Not to quibble with you RL, but the convention is in St. Paul, Minnesota - and I don't think that city is in the path of Gustav.

If Grampy & his Gun Totin' Veep are down there it's because they're using it as political theater and a campaign stop.

It will really suck to have him under foot, but maybe he will take credit for some operation he thinks is a brilliant stroke which actually aggravates the proiblem. You will see a lot more of the military vote peel away from Grampa.

The point is that McCain will be getting in the way of things. Plus, he is not president. He is a senator from AZ. Why not have every senator fly down to NOLA, MS, TX and get briefed on the situation? What can McCain accomplish?

This is pure political theater, as the righties like to accuse democrats of. But guess what, spineless Harry Reid and timid Nancy Pelosi won't say anything when they really should.
