It's not a convention, it's a wake.
That's the mood in the hall. There is none of the joy, none of the excitement, just a feeling of dred that they are finally about to be handed their ass.

Mary Matalin is wearing large multi-colored pearls just like Nancy Pelosi did. It's the new power look for women.
It's not a political convention, it's a disaster-a-thon. I got confused when sweetie pie Laura Bush, dressed in pure angelic white, told me the Federal Government will always help those in need. I thought Republicans didn't like the Government helping people.

It smells of a bit of fear mongering.
Convention called on account of weather that is trying to KILL YOU AND STEAL YOUR FREEDOM!
Today's enemy: Gustav.
Target: Louisiana.
Thursday's enemy: Hanna.
Target: Florida and Georgia.
Next Tuesday: Ian.
Target: Texas and Louisiana.
While Ian is still a Tropical Storm, early reports suggest that with such high windspeeds, Gay Marriage and Third-Trimester Abortions may be legalized.

Minneapolis firefighter just spoke, following Poppy and Babs Bush's entrance. Not a word about politics thus. All about coming together and pride in Minnesotans during the bridge collapse last year, with analogies to the Gulf Coast. Which is only accurate, mete and proper, and also rather interesting, given that it's a political nominating convention. McCain's Vietnam cellmate Tommy Espinoza up now.

Following a quote from Matthew, "John McCain believes in the sanctity of human life from conception. He believes in the sanctity of marriage and family life. John McCain is the leader America needs. Vive, John McCain, vive America!"
And, as Lehrer is noting, Tommy Espinoza wasn't a POW with McCain.

And now "I'm very proud that America's first female vice-president will be a Republican woman."
Howls and whoops from a sea of Caucasia, as she continues by invoking Margaret Spellings, Elaine Chao and Condi.

Such a striking difference in the appearance of the crowd compared to the Democrats' convention last week.

"The most important educational reforms in a generation....Today, student achievement is rising across the board, and test scores for minority students are at the highest they've ever been."
"We all know how important it is for America to have judges who respect the Constitution. Our whole nation can be proud of the newest members of the Supreme Court, Sam Alito, and Chief Justice John Roberts."
And now, faith-based initiatives.

I consider myself to be open-minded, but I find it impossible to watch the republican convention. I tried to follow along, but they act as if the past eight years never happened. Republicans want to win the election, but they have no interest in governing.

For 8 years, he's "sat at the resolute desk."

Incidntly, theother day I posed, in another thread, tha the Exel arena seats less than 16,000 people. It looks half empty to me and.

Catapultin' the propoganda.
Yes, Lorna Shrub has seldom looked more tense, and cannot watch Ma Barker.
Well, for that matter, I'm only listening to this, with the occasional craned-neck over the office partition to see. I find that either listening or watching the Shrubuehrer is manageable, but not both at once.
"Fellow citizens, we live in a dangerous world, and we need a commander who understands the difficult lessons of September 11."
There is something generic about the crowd responses. It certainly isn't comparable to the 2004 convention.
But we're a nation that always looks to the sunrise side of the mountain.
The returning Lorna first called Mrs. McCain "Sydney," but got it right the second time. Oh, it's a love fest.
"If Cindy can do all this, just in the last four months, imagine what she can do in the next four years in the White House."

funny he should mention America first when McCain's running mate and the first dude both belonged to AIC. Pushing for secession is treason last I heard.
Country first? nah...How dare they bring up Rayguns and tarnish his name. Bad as RAyguns was, I do believe he loved America. He was just abusive in his demonstration of that love.
