Full Version: Lieberman's Chairmanship Title To Be Evoked!

"Sen. Joe Lieberman’s speech before the Republican National Convention Tuesday night could cost Lieberman the chairmanship of a key Senate committee, a top Senate Democratic aide told CNN.

During the speech, the Connecticut senator praised GOP presidential candidate Sen. John McCain and criticizing Democratic nominee Sen. Barack Obama.

"The Democratic Caucus will reassess the situation with Sen. Lieberman after the election,” Jim Manley, a spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, said Wednesday.

Lieberman, the Democratic nominee for vice president in 2000, now calls himself an “independent Democrat,” but he remains a member of the Senate Democratic Caucus which allows him to head the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

Democrats have grumbled for months about Lieberman’s outspoken support of McCain and both Reid and Obama have warned Lieberman to curb his public criticism of Obama.

“What we saw last night was a culmination of provocative efforts in recent months,” said a Democratic leadership aide.

Democrats, who with Lieberman’s support control the chamber by a narrow 51-49 margin, are unlikely to go a step further and boot Lieberman from their caucus although the Democratic leadership aide didn’t rule out that punitive step if Democrats pick up several seats in November."

What's to assess? He isn't a Democrat. All that's happening is the Dems are gaming the Senate and he is gaming the Dems. With a majority of 1 in the Senate, he should be history, and only Dems should caucus with Dems.

He had better get used to the thought of looking at Washington from the cheap seats.

As a long time CT resident I'm appalled by Joe Lieberman. I voted as most Democrats in CT did for Ned Lamont. When Joe didn't win his true colors came out. Ever the opportunist he could not bow out gracefully for the sake of the party. He started the party of Joe. I called his office/and wrote as well, today to tell him in no uncertain terms that he is an embarrassment to the good people of Connecticut.
plodder
Gee why rush to kick him out now sarcasm.gif

He should have been gone a long time ago.....................

Here's the deal as I imagine it going down:

Sniveling Harry Reid will whine to newly elected President Obama how the Dems should keep Joe Lie-ber-mann as chairman of Homeland Security. And Obama will say, "Harry, meet your replacement as Senator Majority Leader -- this is Hilliary." Snap!

Minor edit, not to pick nits, but it's actually "revoked. . . .

The next thing that should happen is the voters of the state of Connecticut need to grow some balls and recall Lieberman and throw the scum sucker out on his ass.

How is what Joe Lieberman doing any different from what the rest of the Democrats in congress are doing?

Pelosi categorically refuses to even consider impeaching Bush, while Obama merrily votes to give the telecoms immunity for spying on us illegally before 9/11. They are ALL Republican appeasers, every last one of them. Joe is just more honest about it.
terpsoccer13
There is no provision for us (CT) to recall him. Believe me I've checked and checked.

Indeed. The campaign was called Connecticut for Lieberman, not Lieberman for Connecticut.

Welcome newbies, Joe won't go because he has no job skills, not that he needs them, but the rw will not hire him and neither will the lw. He needs his seat to survive the great depression that is coming and he knows it. Now throw him out, and be quick about it.

Logical fallacy isn't like you, under.

1) What Liberbitch is doing is rubbing his whoredom in the Democratic voter's faces.

2) He's stumping for the enemy, what other Democrat is on stage with McFuckface?

3) He joined the latest incarnation of the PNAC.

4) He's uglier than Barney Frank and Henry Waxman combined.

Smart people realized that it was going to be gone the minute the democrats didnt need him to keep the majority. He was a gonner anyway. Once they make it official, I would imagine that he would switch parties, although that is not as assured. If the republican party ever gain the majority in his senatorial life, than he would for sure.

Yeah, the Senate has 49 Dems, 49 ReThugs and 2 Independents. Both Bernie and Joe caucus with the Dems, except for Joe on the war (other issues?).

It's still tough to lose that Ind. Senate seat of Joe if he gets pissed off after being booted. He votes with the Dems on many Progressive issues, so why not use him to our advantage? Why burn that bridge when it could come back and bite the Dems in the ass? That extra vote could make the difference on critical issues. Not to mention he has the media's attention. The ability to strip him is still there if he starts voting contrary to the Dems ideals. Politics creates strange bedfellows.

Good point. And hardly ever does anyone talk about all the BLUE DOG Democrats in both the House and Senate. Joe is just better known so he gets the heat.
