Biden doesn't need to beat up on Sarah Palin at all. You misunderstood my post. I guess it wasn't very clear. Sarah Palin talked about, for examples, Barack's legislative record and his work has a community organizer. Further, she challenged he and his wife's patriotism. Joe Biden has to learn to quickly defend Barack's record point by point (or at least hit a few big points), highlight the contradictions b/t her rhetoric and record, then close with the big picture stuff. We cannot make the mistake of the assuming the American people know the truth or that they will figure this out on their own. That is a replay of the Kerry campaign. Moreover, we cannot fall for this "she's a lady; we better watch what we say" bit. I agree he should not attack her personally. But Baracks record and her record are fair game.
Responding point-by-point is a good formula for losing against Republican campaigners. Republicans are experts at framing a dialog with talking points which are divisive (i.e., use fear and hate to elicit an emotional reponse). They play to the worst in people, and aren't interested in citizens' thoughts, just whether they can get the reptilian brain to follow the mob.
If you respond point-by-point to that frame, you stay IN THE FRAME, and that divisive perspective is reinforced in the listener. You fall into their trap, responding point by point. You play their divisive game.
Instead it is better to see if you can get citizens to get OUT OF THEIR REPTILIAN BRAIN, and get into their cortex. You do that by reframing, asking people to look at it from a different angle. Nothing wrong with responding point by point later, but citizens' must be lifted back into their rational mind, after listening to Republicans for even a few minutes.
So Biden did just the right thing. Reframed it. Reminded citizens that McCain/Palin refused to acknowledge the failed policies of GWB and had no plan for the future which improves the plight of the middle class. Simple message, received. And it ends the Palin's childish taunting. Eventually citizens will decide. If 70% of us would rather live in our reptilian brains, then this was never meant to be a democracy. If it's 30% and even they can be rehabilitated, then McCain/Palin will be swept away as the last gasp of a party of sociopaths.
