...the Republicans finally said the word...will the msm take this on?

I'm embarrassed by Steve King's statement.

Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) said that Obama's middle name – Hussein – is relevant to the public discourse surrounding his candidacy, saying in March that if Obama were elected, "Then the radical Islamists, the al Qaeda, the radical Islamists and their supporters, will be dancing in the streets in greater numbers than they did on Sept. 11 because they will declare victory in this War on Terror."

GCurry
Yup, Republicans ushered in the Age of Bigotry, with GWB. This country was set back 50 years, in terms of what got a pass.

This Georgia rep sounds like she's taking one for the party, gotta hurry up and get it out there, so that the bigotry can fester. Another Republican sociopath.
bhusar
She even said it twice when questioned so people knew what she men't. I bet she gets offended if you call her a racist and will say Obama played the race card.
Randys
Well, it is official.

From this point forward I say the Republicans are using race, this is racism, pure and simple.

Fortunately for me, there is no chance that I will vote for or defend the McCain campaign, so I dont have to worry about being called a racist, I am on the right side of this issue and the right side of history and I know that...

These fucking assholes are hoping they can inflame those moderate White Southerners* to think back to the good ole days when them "Ni**ers" were in their place and didnt much bother us important and decent white folk...

They probably reckon back to the good ole days when the dogs would chew on em if they got out of line...

Yep, the battle lines are clearly drawn here...

*not all are subject to being able to succumb to this garbage, not saying all...lets not waste my fucking time with that canard...and i dont want to limit it to southern whites, hell, east west and north too, even other minorities...there are racists everywhere so I guess I didnt even have to say southern afterall

Westmoreland was discussing vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin's speech with reporters outside the House chamber and was asked to compare her with Michelle Obama.

"Just from what little I’ve seen of her and Mr. Obama, Sen. Obama, they're a member of an elitist-class individual that thinks that they're uppity," Westmoreland said.

Asked to clarify that he used the word “uppity,” Westmoreland said, “Uppity, yeah.”

Other Democrats have charged that the Republican campaign to paint the Illinois senator as an “elitist” is racially charged, and accused them of using code words for “uppity” without using the word itself.

In August, Rep. Shelley Berkley (D-Nev.) told reporters, “When I hear the word ‘elitist’ linked with Barack Obama, to me, that is a code word for 'uppity.' I find it extremely offensive and John McCain should know better.”

Don't others tacitly participate by failing to repudiate it? Rather than making excuses, or offering tit-for-tat (Well a Barack supporter said this about Palin, so it's even Steves) rationalizations, or just as bad, those who remain silent, I think those who don't stand to object are party to it.

I caught that too ... that's what let me know it was planned in advance that she float the term, and equate it to "elitist".

Ten Commandments: Congressman can't name them

Posted by Cory Doctorow, June 17, 2006 12:32 AM | permalink
In this video, Stephen Colbert nails Georgia Representative Lynn Westmoreland, a Congressman who's co-sponsored a bill to require the display of the Ten Commandments in the House of Reps and the Senate. After bantering with Westmoreland for a couple minutes, Colbert says, "What are the Ten Commandments?"

Stephen Colbert: What are the Ten Commandments?

Lynn Westmoreland: What are all of them?

SC: Yes.

LW: You want me to name them all?

SC: Yes.

LW: Uhhh.

LW: Ummmm. Don't murder. Don't lie. Don't steal. Ummmmm.

LW: I can't name them all.

How about we just rephrase it to "One Republican Who Got Caught."

Because, again, I am a Republican in a deeply Red area, and I can pretty well guarantee you that not only do they use the word "uppity," but they also insist that he's only wanting to get into office to sign the checks for reparations.

The muslim stuff is so yesterday; they only use that when they want to crack jokes about muslims.
